  • What is the song at 1:00.

  • THE CORE SET IS AWESOME! all the classic plainwalkers are back and SOME NEW CARDS YAY

  • this is my first time watching this... he had some good speculation, half good and bad.

  • TOO BAD THE NEW CARDS ARE FUCKING REPRINTS WITH DIFFERENT ART AND NAMES >:(. Seriously... runeclaw bears?!?!

  • I'm a newbie to MTG and I just recently bought a 2010 Core Set... I don't like the idea how there will be new core sets every year and the core set a year before isn't legal to play in tournies... As a newbie to MTG, this is a turn-off; it seems that the company is money hungry, but I'm just playing to have fun; not to compete in tournaments.

So I guess i'm good then.

  • LOL, so you seriously wanna have a match against a deck using Akroma, or any other old cards. Unlike other card games that cycle out, magic has a pretty good reason. I DON'T WANT TO SEE ALL OF THESE BROKEN CARDS. Sure yu-gi-oh had some cards that were broken, but there is always the, Broken, Outclassed, Broken, Outclassed. Play vintage JaughnGol, you will not enjoy it with that core set...

  • yeah for sure,if your not in tournements just use any cards you got, decks can be alot cooler that way because you can use cards that wouldnt normally be used together for cool effects and commons

  • new core sets every year I miss the bi-monthly core set release...

  • Derrrp, Im'a no take no mana burn, dere be no mana burn no more DERP DERP DERP. Lookamee, I toss mogg fanatic in the ether vortex mana battlefield zone, but I no have working mogg fanatic anymore, DERP DERP DERP. I go poopie now.

Thanks for fagging up the game, WOTC, just like you fagged up D&D. Too bad there's no GURPS for Magic.

  • R.I.P. Wrath of God.

  • I Bought Tons Of CoreSet Packs

  • You should just buy singles that you need.

  • nnnnnnoooooooooo not wrath of god nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • I LOVE how the cards are only legal for one year. This way, we can spend twice as much money on the game's core set and get half as much. Good times.

  • Yeah luckily online you can find some real deals on cards. But this game is expensive to keep up with.

  • Id rather tap pussy then lands

  • Hopefully that pussy is not a forest o.O

  • ... or a swamp.

  • or (oh god) mountain o.0

  • @motiongraphics81 to bad your a virgin huh?

  • I am not happy yet but I wil see what wil happen

  • The changes sound interesting. I can't wait to try them out.

  • Yay rod of ruin is leaving woo hoo

i got annoyed by it so many times and awsome show guys. new rules rule i like them already :D.

  • dude you are a noob rod of ruin sucks and like the guy said rod of ruin has been outdone many times. i bet you never even been to fnm before little kid.

  • Rod of Ruin is in m10 XD

  • So, is everyone cool with no more mana burn and no more combat damage on the stack?

    what about ordered blocking?

I've lost a lot of respect for Magic

  • im wiht you mana burn leaving makes me sad i used to have a deck based on giving your opponet manaburn now its useless. not like i can use it anyways i mean cards are only legal for a year..bullshit

  • Right? I don't even know where to go to play Extended events or Block Constructed or something else besides Draft or Standard..

If more places offered Highlander or Pauper or Block Singleton or something different, the game would be more accessible to more people.

Oh well, we can still do kitchen table casual using the old rules..

  • NVM my friend sent me this link and i thought it was regarding the latest update on M-10 (june 10)

sorry i thought you were skirting the issue.

  • woot birds will be in 2010

  • omw to getting a couple of boxes of 10th then lol

  • really?? we can finally get our Wizardry Diplomas? YAAAAYY!!! LET'S CELEBRATE!! CHEESE FOR EVERYONE!! or maybe cheese for no one. that can be a celebration too, right?? who cares!? LET'S DRESS LIKE GANDALF AND PLAY MAGIC!! lol

  • Its logical that they rename the Play-field to Battlefield since we dont play spells, we Cast them. Cause we are finally Wizards now.

  • We were always Planeswalkers. Why be a wizard now?

  • Maybe because we can play Planeswalkers now also? Play with ourselves doesnt sound very good.

  • But a planeswalker is more powerful then a wizard.

Plus I been summoning Planeswalkers for years, it's called having your friend jump in the game when your losing :P

  • an example has already been made in the vid: instead of a 2/2 bear we get a 2/2 elf.... woopty-fuckin-doo

and i agree about this "battlefield" crap.... its so lame! "when this comes into the battlefield" vs "when this comes into play". the former sounds gay. the latter is simply.... simple.

and removed from game should just be as is...

  • its all 50/50 for me. getting rid of the crappy reprints will be nice, but watch them replace em with new crap that resembles the old crap just with a different name LOL

  • All of the new changes suck, I have been playing magic for ages and honestly, battlefield? exile? the fucking void! its all lame they are just trying to get kids to buy now....

  • well, some day you old people will die and we younger people will take over Magic. Deal with it!

  • I think it could also be called the void because there is a black card in shards or conflux which is called voice from the void

  • I actually like the sounds of most of the new changes except "Battlefield" it's the only one i don't approve of.

    Too annoying.

Oh and personally No wrath in T2 would be good for once my mate won't spam it on me hahaha!

  • I agree with you. "Exile" sounds cool, but "Battlefield" is a first person shooter.

  • FPS don't give Wizards that idea:

    I now "cast" Rocket Launcher

    You go boom now!!

  • well actually wrath of god is not that annoying when its used in part of a certain concepts of deck where you control your opponents all the way but just spamming it when youre in deep shit is just sad lol

  • it seems like magic is veering more and more toward kids, i mean battleground? "Casting" what are we 7?

  • I'm happy that the eternal cards will dissapears like wrath of god it will change the way people are playing and add some new things to the game but changing the terms is quite unuseful it will only make the old cards really old looking in a couple of years but I cant wait to see the new cards in the next core set!

  • wrath is staying, sry bud.

  • I have friends that always freak when new things happen to the game, often yelling: "Why do they keep changing it?" (Indestructable was fun) Simple fact of life that applys to magic to: CHANGE happens. Theres nothing wrong with that and if its that confusing to you, maybe you need a new hobby... like say, categorizing your socks. Also, if you want to sell your cards and quit over improvements and tweeks to the game, sell your computer also, since it needs an update from time to time. Grow up.

  • LOL

  • lOl he showed the bends by radiohead

  • jus cunfused about one thing the rotaion of the core sets everthing ells i aggre with but the rotation of them.

  • Battlefield, exile, and void is the dumbest s**t ever. the M stuff iscool to me but... eh whatever... i cant stop anything.

  • Wall of frost = new glacial wall? Almost identical :D

Haven't bought a coreset booster since 7th edition came, might start again with M10 or M11 or whatever it is :D

  • Silence = mini Chant...(facepalms) scepter in legacy...(..sobs...)

  • Hold, on to those Thoughtseizes, they see play in Legacy and Vintage too. the price will dip a little, but will certainly not plummet.

  • I hope Wrath of God will be replaced by Damnation in the worst way. Please, please, please...

  • thx man 4 the spoilers

  • i recon this is goin 2 add a new n fresh feel 2 MTG n core sets worth getin again lots of new ideas floating around shame the Magic scene

  • If Tenth is leaving Standard soon, then I'd better sell my Thoughtseizes while the price is still in the double digits.

  • Thoughtseize is from Lorwyn...

  • I know. And when Tenth leaves Standard, Lorwyn will be leaving with it.

  • still sees alot of play in extendid but ye better sell them

  • Heh, I already sold one. XD For eighteen bucks, too. Most places only buy them at about ten to twelve dollars.

  • i´d buy ur thoughtseizes but i live in finland so.......

  • i don't really like thoughtsieze you;d be better with Raven's Crime

  • If WoG left Standard... the only thing I can think to compare was FFXIII on 360.

The fans would cry a fifth ocean.

  • I'm all for Wrath getting axed. Its an overused card for uncreative wanks.

  • NO U

  • Wrath leaving? Good news for me, can't afford it and never use it when I can online.

  • How long has it been since you said you care **** about the flavor? Now you're excited about "cast"...oh yeah.

  • you're only 7 years older than me SWEET JESUS

  • i think coming into play and removed from the game are sweet. its too bad

  • I think "battlefield" and "exile" are pushing it. This makes me feel like I'm roleplaying instead of playing a card game. Magic is turning into D&D....

  • they could take out wrath...

they would just put in damnnation

    reprint loophole right there.

the battlefield seems ok, but exile and void just seem too narrow.

  • It is already hard enough to tell girls you play magic.. now battlefields?? gawd. I jeremy richard mathis, want to kill myself.

  • everybody get dangerous

  • I suppose that the new zone names will make sense in the long run but you can bet your arse that I'll be calling them their old names for years to come. An RFG-card by any other name...

About the core sets actually making sense again, yay! I never did understand what they did before (apart from helping everyone make constructed decks), now my local store might even have a few core set boosters for sale! That hasn't happened since medieval times.

  • I don't think I've bought core set since like 3rd or 4th... i guess its time to get some now though

  • By the way, where at in Viginia? I am from Fredericksburg, but I decided to go back to college so I moved to Indiana to go to IU.

  • I personally love all the changes. I haven't played magic in about 7 years or so.. I believe I was 21 during the Urzas block, and that is when I quit, right after Urzas. I had friends of mine that still play link me the article the day it was announced and after reading it. I have decided to jump back into Magic this July. I am really looking forward to play type 2 now and I love the fact that the standard sets will have so many new cards each year.

    Good game Wizards.

  • i think that the whole exile thing is rediculous. people are use to the different and old way.. eh for standard you could have many cards that say different texts,, and especially for legacy.

  • How so?

  • let me explain;

I dont like plainwalkers, because they are extremely strong and you really need them in some decks. another expensive playset you really need! for a casual player like me, i get forced to pay another ~70-80 euro to compete with my friends- per deck. besides that, i dont like how they work and i dont like to play with them. with some friends we even agreed to not play with them :)

just my opinion, from a casual player!

  • Definetly i would think all of the cards you suggested should be removed from the core set for sure, we have greater and more accessible cards to use from current sets as well, but i hope my head doesn't spin from the amounf of insanity the next core set brings into standard.

  • Radiohead = Greatest thing that has ever happened to me

  • i am guessin there gona choose one of the lands from future sight and make lands of every color for 1 of the 1's kinda like they did with gravern cairns

  • Cheers: New cards in core set!

Thumpin' the right wing, "Casting" is back!

"EXILE" I love it when one of my old fav's come back as rules text!

Jeers: Battlefield? could be confused with combat. Does this mean the Red Zone will be "no man's land"?

A most confusing new standard set rotation. Why not just say this set will be 2 yrs in standard and 7 yrs in extended? "K"eep "I"t "S"imple "S"word.

Wrath of God no more? ..hang on to your Damnations! Heck, since we threw "casting" back in, why not ?

  • I really like Grizzly Bears. I know the Elf designation is popular, but I just love imagining my opponent being mauled by soem pissed off bears.

  • New lands like Nimbus Maze is my guess. But CiPT, also sounds good. It definetly will slow the tempo of the game down though.

  • What are they thinking...we need mass removal. We need WoG. OMG what is WoC thinking!

  • okay. i thought i was understanding this wired ass game up until 2:38 . then he lost me

  • holy shit... wtf is this

  • No dam all you agro players wrath of god must stay and bring damnation back.

  • i like that we are casting spells and the change to the core set is good too but omg, battlefield, that is just really lame!!!!!!!!! and exile is stupid just keep it the way it is or else we ganna sound like we are playing yugio just like maudin said. Bury is stupid, thats why they took it out

  • yugioh isnt even that bad!! this is more like there failed duel masters!!

  • Wrath of God has to go. Good riddance, you POS card.

  • I hope wrath of god is out of standard forever!!!

  • Hey, if Wizards wants to switch things around I'm all for it here. The new dual lands sounds awesome :D Battlefield and Exile sound great to me too.

    Rock on Wizards ;)

  • So I guess the next block will feature a set based on the "void" or "exile". The change is ok, but I didn't mind the way it was now. As long as it doesn't get too out of hand to were it makes us sound like we're playing yugioh. "I summon/cast dirt dragon to the battlefield in attack mode!!" LOL

  • Ha ha, that's so true, nobody really bought core sets unless they were forced to draft it. Now there's a good enough reason to actually buy packs. New dual lands?? Hmm... What happens to the value of the duals that i spent so much money on trying to get during Ravnica???

  • c'mon wizards if it aint broke don't fix it.

  • amen to that. :/

  • exile would work like bury did back in the day, which they should bring back as that has more flavor than "destroy, cant be regenerated."

  • oh yeah, i remembered the term bury target creature. ^_^

  • Comment removed

  • I dont think exile could be the name of a zone in magic because it is a verb and it would make the text on cards sound very funny. you need a noun. i think void works better here.

i can see exile being an action used to put creatures in the "void zone." example, "Exile target creature" i think that would be better than "put target creature in the void zone", or "destroy target creature, put that creature in the void zone instead of its owners graveyard"

  • Yeah, we never bought 10th unless we were drafting it.

  • The "battlefield" term instead of "in(to) play" is a change I think is good, but I agree with Evan about enchantments, as they aren't physical things. Wonder how they'll sort that out, if the name changes are true. I think that a lot of people are going to be pissed if Wrath of God leaves standard, as it's among the most classic of classic cards. The other cards are pretty much boring, so I don't think anyone will really miss them. Awesome episode, can't wait until official changes are out!

  • no wog ? welcome martial coup..

  • This will be awesome! I like this changes. If someone will cry because the good old Magic game is gone, he/she have the right for it. Try to be open to new things and think about how much fun it will be! Thanks for the video!

  • I think everyone who plays magic can somehow identify himself as a nerd, otherwise you wouldn't play the game. "I'm playing with rectangular cardboard pieces, how cool is that!"

Come on, it doesn't really make a difference if there's written "in play" or "battlefield" on these. We magic players aren't cool at all while we're playing the game, but it's tons of fun, so stop bothering. It helps new players learn the game, so it's okay.

  • lol no WoG that will be sweet

  • For the first time ever this felt like propaganda.

But I do agree with what you said on the video.

  • I like it.

Serra Angel being an uncommon is great cos it no longer needs to clog up the rare slot and yet remain in the core set to attract new players or nostalgic ones.

The Efreet looks like its dancing though.. disturbing in a way that I doubt Wizards is intendint it to be..

  • Uh-oh THIS IS TEH END OV MAGIC!!!11! Wizards cannot change ANYTHING without someone complaining and quitting or something. I'm growing tired of it. Just accept it for what it is, they're not going to change it just for you. Get over it. (This is directed toward previous comments, not the video)

  • i'm crying right now wotc i fucking hateyour going to far into yugioh faggotry

  • I'm a fan :D

  • you really like cats don't you

  • it seems like wizards is changing the words of cards to try and appeal to new players en mass. battlefield is dumb. theres no need to try and rename something that has worked before. its like trying to polish an already polished car, it wont get any shinier than it already is, just leave it alone. i am glad to see though that the removed from play section has been defined. at times it was a little sketchy where the place was and what happened to certain cards.

  • Haha, that's the worst analogy ever! It's nothing like polishing a polished card. It's more like giving a car a new paint job: the car is the still the same on the inside, but is different on the outside.

I personally love it. Magic needs all the flavor it can get, and this is good start. It's too easy to just think of everything as cards, rather than everything having a back story.

  • :/ ug....

  • I really don't like the new changes, to be honest.

    Jeez...

  • i have no problem with void or exile but battlefield is killing me here. cast isn't that big a deal. mi likez the 2 core set 3 month period

  • Another idea on the new dual lands are lands that are the same as the original dual lands but don't have the subtype of the basic land. Like the GW one would add G or W but would not be a forest or a plains.

  • Paradoxically what pisses me off the most of all these changes is Serra Angel. I mean 4/4 for 5cc flying vigilance, although it is by no means a game breaker, it's definitely a solid card. How many uncommons reach such an efficiency on such low mana cost? Not many (no air elemental isn't even close cos he stands alone in his color). What this could practically mean is shifting the value of cards, making uncommons like Serra Angel, rares like Prog and mythic totally overpowered and game breaking.

  • lol shouldn't the "new dual lands" say: comes into the battlefield tapped?. Seriously i cant wait for a new and improved core set, plus anything that shortens a lot of words is welcomed with me!

  • i can honestly say, i would love WoG out of Standard. im an Aggro player at heart, and killing all my beloved creatures is not something im fond of.

plus, having to play around an opponent with 4 mana open and who is playing white really isnt that fun.

ps. i hate Revilark. (WoG's best friend)

  • I'm sure white needs it but I've always wondered why they keep the "balanced" WoG but not geddon and balance.

  • "the battlefield" "the void" ?? seriously, that is so wrong. "enters the battlefield" makes it sound like I'm even more a dork

  • yeh that is so unnessesary "in play" makes sense- cards that are in play lol

  • it sounds like its just making it easier for new players. so i guess thats good ... but people say dont make the game sounf more nerdy, dont try to defend urself for bring the cool magic player, ur playing magic who cares about termology, who u trying to impress? i just care about having fun. get over it

  • I didn't know mtg could get any more nerdy lol. It honestly seems unnecessary to have "the battlefield" in place of "in play".

  • This is a lot t take in. But I'm sure the game will remain awesome. Silence is a broken card. Can't wait to get my play set!!

  • I think that the whole "battlefield idea will make gameplay quite difficult for people using old and new cards in their decks- other than that it should be an interesting couple of changes.

  • Honestly I don't like the changes and hope they're just rumors. Then again, I'm not really a vorthos. In play should stay the same, but the removed from game zone might as well change... but I LOVE the "new cards in core set" change. LOVE IT!!!!!!

  • 3 new videos in my magic show? It's more likely than you think.

  • Thx for the show and rumors.

I really liked this new wording, being a Vorthos myself. I don't see how they'll worsen the game mechanicaly, but they'll surely make the flavor a lot better.

I mean... I'm a ass-kicking Planeswalker. I don't "play" stuff on a kitchen table. I CAST my big boys onto the BATTLEFIELD!

    FTW!

  • Thx for the rumors. But serious, DOES MTG need this changes? I think not. The exchange of 3 words won't change anything for new players. For me it seems that hasbro has told WotC to get more money out of the game, and now their trying. After they've seen more cards in TS worked well, they tried it with Lorwyn/Shadowmoor. After they've seen it didn't work out again, they introduced mythic. The next step is to do a coreset, which has cards who do nearly the same as old one, but with diffrent names

  • These changes are awesome from a flavor and mechanic standpoint.

  • omg "casting" "battlefield" "exiled".Great terms and more helpful for new-player introduction plus it just has a different feeling saying "i play this spell" and "i CAST this spell" it just sounds more right for the whole Magic setting as well the role you and ur opponent have while dueling (wizards)

  • Really hope u're wrong about the new duals, cause otherwise mr Forsythe needs to look up the definition of "awesome". Great show, very informative, btw :)

  • Wow... Really nice episode. One of the best to date

  • Even if it's easier for players to comprehend the in play zone if it's called "Battlefield" and "casting" spells is less ambiguous than playing them, it will require errata for SO MANY cards that are currently in circulation. Players who learn to play with sets prior to M10 will be EVEN MORE confused over the fact that all the cards their friends own say one thing, and the new cards and updated rules of the game say another.

  • This is assuming, of course, that the rumors are true. Not confirmed yet of course, except perhaps the "cast" thing.

  • Wow, so uh, I'm going to have to disagree with everyone who is, frankly, acting like a child about the zone name changes. I think it's great. Less text on the card means not having to wait 10 minutes in a match for some nublet to reach over and read what your card does to pwn his face. Plus, it just sounds awesome. And I agree E.E., duel lands always = happy fun time. One point I wanna touch on, so what happened to Chapin in Kyoto? I heard he got deported or something :/ - Tom

  • Eh, I'm liking the Zone Changes. Adds to the flavour of the game, yeah?

  • wow that is fucking LAMEEEEE... battlefield the void hahah and exile. this is bullshit and i really hope this is a rumor, if not im done with mtg, i already feel like a neard, this is just 2 much.

  • Zone changes? It's all just SILLY SPECULATION that holds NO WEIGHT. XP XP XP

  • cool. i usually hate core sets. (but i went to the 10th anyway.) it was just too big a' deal to pass up. this sounds cool.

  • I will probably vomit every time I hear someone call the "in play zone" the "battlefield", so I'm really hoping that's not the case. I get that they are trying to do a big acquisition push, so it makes sense that they are trying to come up with more modern terms. Exile is ok enough, but Battlefield is WAY TOO CORNY. Christ, that sounds terrible.

  • omfg, i love these changes. first, i don't have to wait 2 years for the new core set to come out. i honestly am board of 10th and i want new stuff for standard. every change they are making i support, from the new wordings, to the new cards. new players will have an easier time entering the game then i did. it benefits everyone.

  • i will quit magic if shit starts coming onto the battlefield.

not really but maybe. well i wont be trying to bring new players into the game anymore. if that happens it will not be good. but im fine with casting spells.^^

  • I support Cast and Exile.

  • Sounds interesting.

  • I'm gonna call it now.

Wrath of God goes out...Damnation goes in.

  • great stuff, but damnation and wrath shoud be in 2010 and mythic!

  • laaammmmeee

  • Battlefield? Exile? The void?

    C'mon, those are super corny.

  • p.s. i do like bringing Casting predominantly back in though. spells don't get played, (within context) so good call on that.

  • I'm not a HUGE Magic player and all but i do feel a large part of my interest towards magic is how "grown-up" it is compared to other card games.

i feel a huge factor of this is in card explanation. it sounds more complex, more challenging and alluring, along with the awesome art.

im playing a game, but im not playing D n D while playing it.

i dont think anyone gets THAT sucked in. so why be intent on bringing it in?

    ink prices getting high?

    Battlefield?

    Exile?

im not too sure about this one.

  • Casting spells is a very welcome change. Brings me back to reading the 4th Edition rules book, learning fast effects and packets, and thinking that two Tundra Wolves in play became one 2/2 First Strike creature! The game is all about casting, so thank you Wizards for bringing that back!

  • It won't be "Tranquil Prairie comes into play tapped", it will be "Tranquil Prairie enters the Battlefield tapped" ;)

Lands entering the battlefield feels even weirder than enchantments... But oh well, it's great if we also get Void/Exile and "cast" :)

  • ya battlefield sound's lame. but ya i like (cast) it help's with card's like bloodbond march so the player is not confused with the card coming from the graveyard to play like rendclaw trow and bringing them all back

  • honestly i think they should make a shift to damnation, and give white a few years of no mass removal. as for 2010, i have seen nothing negative, and everything positive personally. and anyone who is disagreeing is just afraid of change. the simple fact is, things sometimes need to charge to allow for new and more excited play later on. take the hits, and keep fighting. and don't worry about a few lost fights.

  • hell yeah, the bends is some nice shit.

  • Dude, if they took Wrath of God out of Standard, people would go more batshit crazy than when Birds of Paradise left Standard. Trust me, if it did leave Standard, it will be reprinted in a future set just like how BoP was reprinted in Ravnica.

  • Horay for sigur ros! <3.

  • I'm all for some Vorthos changes to come to Magic, in fact I'd encourage it (love the idea of cast). But Battlefield...c'mon. I'd be happier with just plain old Field. Everything else in M10 looks to be great. I just think I'll continue referring to the "Battlefield" as "in play".

  • Man these new names sound so lame.

  • I'm not too comfortable with the renaming of zones, but it's not too bizarre for the game. After all, Magic already has some of this: our deck is called a "library", and the discard pile is the "graveyard". Not that different from calling in-play the "battlefield", so we'll probably get used to it eventually.

  • I like cast, new cards in starter sets, and the new rotation structure. They got the big picture correct.

    I dislike:

    a) Battlefield. It feels too specific and narrow; it sounds as if I'm forced to play creature decks,

    b) Void/exile. Giving a specific name for graveyard B or the box of Ma'ruf feels superflous. "I cast Burning Wish to return my literally-exiled-but-never-been-technically-exiled Shahrazad into my hand." Awkward.

O, and the expansion symbol could've been better.

  • Evan, your show is great because your writing is so good. Keep up the stellar work!

  • bleh, can't say that i like the new zone names, they make magic sound like friggin yugioh, which is NOT cool, having play reworded to cast is fine though

  • Props, Evan. The Bends is a great album. I got into the game the year OK Computer came out, so I can identify with that statement at least.

Personally, not a fan of "battlefield". If it were shortened to just "field" I'd be more okay with it; I can't help but feel a little silly saying "battlefield". I must not be Vorthos-y enough.
