  • How the fuck is health care reform a monopoly? I mean unless you are referring to the monopoly that the private insurance sector created? You morons, I challenge you with simply this, those of you who have private health care, call your insurer and simply ask, 'what happens if I end up in an out of network hospital'? Then get back to me on this monopoly issue! LMFAO! Nice one, this title sure works, against the idiots and the misinformed!

  • I am not taking sides on this issue because clearly, you people are some of the biggest bunches of misinformed idiotss that I have ever encountered! I've heard mentioning of rationed care, high taxes for everyone, and the idea that government can't run anything. I just have 1 simple question, how many bankruptcies happen in America each year, that are related to Medical Bills? I'll let you find out, rather than having me give you the number only to be called a Liberal, you people are morons!

  • As explained by Physicians for a National Health Program "Single-payer .. refers to one entity acting as administrator, or payer.....such that one entity...would collect all health care fees, and pay out all health care costs....hospitals would receive an annual lump-sum payment from the government to cover operating expenses

"government monopoly: a government agency is the sole provider of a particular good or service and competition is prohibited by law. '

    hmmmmmmmmmm

  • IT IS the bill drafted in the senate, she just didn't read it but I did.

  • Auto insurance is mandatory, because cars are important.

    People... ah, it's optional.

Let the big companies continue doing it alone. It's not a monopoly if they're the only option, right?

    Uhhhhhhhhhh

  • Auto insurance is mandatory because your car can damage me or my property. It has nothing to do with the value of a person.

  • Read what you write.

"Auto insurance is mandatory because your car can damage me...."

It does have something to do with your value.

  • Imagine if Government takes over medical. 1. Care would be rationed. 2. Spending cuts would include cuts to treatment. 3. Taxes would increase for everyone. 4. Sin tax on everything.

If the government deems something dangerous...it would be subject to a tax.

Ask yourself this. What does government run well???

  • This is the single biggest thing that a lot of these people just don't seem to get. The legislation being proposed would ALLOW people to CHOOSE to be cared for by the government's health care system.

It is NOT mandatory. And if you don't want it, you don't have to have it.

  • Have you read the bill? No it doesn't! As soon as the bill passes, the government will set up an "exchange" which will cover what they have to cover and for how much. Then within 5 years all private insurance companies have to be set up identical to the plans of the public option (doesn't sound like competition to me). If you are not enrolled in a private plan when the bill passes, you are not eligible to be enrolled in a private plan EVER again.

  • The way it reads if you switch employers you will be enrolled in their public option of insurance, not have the option to be in their private insurance option like you are now allowed. Plus if you are young and insured through parents and this bill passes, once you get a job and go off your parents insurance, you can only go on the public plan. Essentially they will slowly make it so EVERYONE is on the public plan. This isn't ANOTHER option like they claim, it is going to be the ONLY option.

  • Wait... run this by me again. Why would you only be able to go on the public plan if you get a new job after being covered by health care paid for by your parents?

  • Also, if you don't pay into insurance, you will be fined. Doesn't sound like much of a choice to me.

  • Ummm... I understand the last portion of your post, but what do you mean by, "As soon as the bill passes, the government will set up an "exchange" which will cover what they have to cover and for how much."

  • They (politicians) do not know what they are doing. They are going to cause chios among american people. Then what are they going to do when revolution breaks out. How are they are going to cure our healthcare then?

  • I think this public debate is awesome. While it would be nice to see a little more civility ,there are strong emotions on each side of the issue. It is nice seeing the american public waking up and actually making more of thier voices known. I wish there was more of the discussions when they were trying to pass the patriot act and stimulus bills.

  • Fellow citizens and taxpayers: Open mouth, accept the s*** our overlords are shoveling in, close mouth, swallow it, shut up, keep working, pay more taxes, receive only the health care your government want you to have. This is what these two are trying to tell us--you're just annoying them with your silly useless protests.

  • xbox360 give away my channel!

  • ---But when a long train of abuses (over-taxed, expansion of federal gov't, catering to special interest groups and corporations, abortions payed for by tax-payers, etc) and usurpations (the systematic dismantling of States rights), pursuing invariably the same Object (total control) evinces a design to reduce them(the People) under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their DUTY, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

  • I lol'd at the downvoting from the people pretending that they read the bill when they just listen to their congressmen (who is paid to lie to you). "public option" = optional. If you want another type of healthcare, you can still get it. If you don't/can't get another type of healthcare, you can use the public option.

This is NOT a single payer system, but even if it was, single payer systems run 4/5 of the world, and they aren't all communists/socialists.

  • the rich need to start paying their fair share

  • And where are all of these rich folks that are going to somehow cover the MASSIVE cost of all of this legislation?

    I'm waiting.

Hell I'll even rule out Cap and Tax for you, a teeny bit easier I suppose.

  • how much can the rich pay? They are the one who create jobs

  • they should pay what they can. surely more than they do now

  • A public plan won't "compete", it will dominate because it doesn't have to make a a profit, you stupid bitch.

  • A public OPTION is by definition OPTIONAL, and you have other OPTIONS.

Go back to the 8th grade old man.

  • This will ultimately be a SINGLE payer, meaning no other options but govt mandated. YOU go back and read the bill

  • And that is when the real savings would start.

Administrative costs for Medicare is currently around 5.2% versus 16.7% for private insurers.

Then, everyone in the country receives the benefit of leveraged contracts with providers - not just large insurers. This is why we currently have the most expensive healthcare in the world. And let's not forget, we are the only industrialized country that has a 100% private healthcare system.

  • (1) LIMITATIONONNEWENROLLMENT.— (A) INGENERAL.—Except as provided in 11 this paragraph, the individual health insurance 12 issuer offering such coverage does not enroll 13 any individual in such coverage if the first ef- 14 fective date of coverage is on or after the first 15 DIRECTLY FROM HOUSE BILL PAGE 16 USE GOOGLE!!!!
  • Rockstar, you obviously cannot read legalese. "Except as provide by".

What you are saying doesn't even make sense. Quit being a shithouse lawyer. It makes you look like a fool.

  • Justrelaxing - look it up - that's how it reads.

  • You can't even quote my quote correctly when trying to insult me. Is English not your first language? Why don't you search & read the bill yourself & find me the conditions then?

  • Excepts as provided in this paragraph & what ends up being "provided" is that adding a newly born dependent. That is the only way to create an new policy in this bill. You can't read, you are a douchebag, shut the fuck up & get a new hobby. Trolling youtube comments & shit-talking when you can't back it up is a sad excuse for one.

  • You really should take a look at the bill man.

Except as provided in this paragraph means that, except for anything specifically provided in the following sections, these conditions apply. What are those conditions?

Well, it says it right there. No new enrollments if the first date of coverage is after Y1 - that's described earlier as the effective date of the bill.

The conditions in the paragraph? You can add a dependent to your plan after Y1.

  • So what conditions were provided by the statement "Except as provided in this paragraph"?

You can add a dependent on after Y1. That's it.

The following subsection after that states that no policy, benefit or coverage changes are allowed if the effective date of the policy is before Y1.

Put that together, Sparky, and what do you get?

You cannot change plans, benefits, copay, deductible. If you lose your job, you're FORCED into the Government Plan.

  • So what happens when you cut off the supply of anything? Prices get even higher, services would get cut if the Government didn't FORBID it, and eventually that part of business shuts down.

This will inspire competition? By cutting off the supply? Please. You can't compete against the guy that makes the rules and will quite literally print whatever it needs.

Look at what the Hughes Amendment did to NFA weapons - $30,000 for what used to be a $500 smg.

    Government is never the answer.

  • I am sure you can tell me all about firearms. it's in your profile.

Economics are a different matter. We barely evaded a depression because the money supply was opened, where it had been constricted by the banking crisis. If you read about depression-era economics, you would know that. Inflation will not appear for a while, because high unemployment will check wage inflation. Unemployment claims are a lagging indicator. By the time unemployment begins to fall, the recovery will have begun.

  • Then why are the European countries that refused to dole out money from their governments per President Obama's request now doing better than the USA? It could not possibly be because they let the companies that needed to fail, actually fail. Thus allowing the financially stable companies to grow and hrie new employees.

  • You are talking of the concept of "moral hazard", and you are preaching to the converted. We must allow inefficient businesses to fail.

Strategically important industries, such as the auto and banking industries deserve more consideration. We absolutely cannot allow the banking system to seize up. If all the major banks were to fail, you would see more government intervention than you can imagine. The auto industry bailout is certainly less palatable, but still of strategic importance.

  • anon4654--Not with htis bill it's not optional. No new policies are allowed to be written in this current bill they are trying to get through. Page 16

  • And for the record. MY general opinion on health care. I think anyone who trusts a private health care system over a social one is a fool. The goal of private business is simply to generate profits. There are no private health insurance companies in this country that do it for the fuzzy feeling it gives them to help people. When they do it costs them in profits so they don't like it to happen much. Is a social system better? I don't know. But I know what the interests are of the private.

  • & you think doctors--forced by law/the government--to work will be working for that warm fuzzy feeling? You're a fool.

  • Why don't you re-write this post, Sparky.

It makes it sound like doctors would work for the government. You're not that stupid, I know.

The doctors would remain private, the hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and med equip mfrs - all would remain private. The only difference is you have a choice of public insurance. Not a bad concept - freedom of choice.

Certainly if you believe the system would be "socialized" under those conditions, you'll never understand the debate.

  • Wrong. It has already been revealed from the current bill that no new private policies would be lawful to create. Any changes to your policy, not allowed. Lose your job, lose your ploicy too & no new private policy for you. Eventually everyone would end up on the govt. system. It would drive up the private costs until people had no choice to switch from private to govt. system. Private industry cannot compete against govt. monopoly that MAKES the rules for the industry.

  • I tell you what.... this statement is so completely unbelievable, why don't you just give me your reference. How about a link?

  • Absurd argument. Competition among suppliers is what keeps innovation and quality working - NOT mere profit. Run a business some day and you will see what I mean. As SOON as you edge out the competitors and have a monopoly, you can do whatever you want to the customer because they have nowhere else to go. EXTREMELY dangerous to do this with health care! My water co. is a perfect example. I can't go to another supplier, so they tell me to pound sand if I complain about price or delivery.

  • I agree, all government employees should be on the same health plan they offer the rest of us. If for nothing else but the conflict of interest. And now is the time to work out things like that in a constructive manner. But turning town hall meetings into shouting matches and firing away unsupported claims on blogs won't help anyone. It's very easy to point out what's wrong with a system. It's a whole hell of a lot harder to figure out how to fix it.

  • to "duhCider": how nice, you've read the little talking points they gave you. let us know when you sober up from the cider that keeps you "duh" and you realize you actually wanted LESS of Big Brother, not more.

  • Why?

  • I dare any of you to put everything the media has told you out of your head and read the entire bill and come back with your opinions.

The majority of the people reporting on this bill havn't even read it.

As for the video in this meeting. It looks to me like those people really wanted to have a good ol' fasion hang'n. I feel bad for the people that tried to politely ask questions.

  • I have read the entire bill and the concerns that most people have about forced movement into the "public option", increases in taxes and, and a full blown "government run healthcare" monopoly is exactly what the bill will result in based on the House version.

  • They feel they can run our lives better than we can do it ourselves. My daughter lived in Canada for 5 years. Hated the healthcare system. When she need to see a Dr., there was a 3 month wait. She went to the Emergency room & had to wait 8 to 10 hrs 4 care. I have read what is out in this HC bill and it does say, in so many double talk words, you hit 55, u need major care, u probably wont get it just like in Europe. These r the same people who ran this us into the ground. WAKE UP U.S.

  • once this guy is out of office..and we have GOVT HEALTH CARE..SPECTER is not immune to this system....im sure they are going to give him that life saving cancer treatment he's been getting...NOT! he's close to 80 yrs old why waste it on him?.. in the name of "saving money"

  • i think they do get lifetime health care and believe me these people won't have to be on it.

  • If Specter was an ordinary citizen like the rest of us, that's how he would be treated.... but the president and senators and congressmen are exempt from the HC plan and can continue their own Cadillac plan. It's not good enough for them but apparently good enough for us lowly wage-earners.

  • I think the poor are not the ones that are being targets. The poor already have very inexpensive healthcare, whether it is medicaid or other types of charity programs, they can also walk into any emergency room and get help. Its the middle and upper income that are being targeted because that sector has money to pull into the system and pay for the poor's healthcare bills. I worked for the Sebelius run system for the SCHIP program just before it ran out of money, mostly due to mismanagement

  • You are living in denial.

    1. Millions of you who think you have good health coverage, don't. The scam is you'll only find out when you attempt to get your "providers" to pay. ("Providers", ahahahahah!)

    2. The poor and indigent are often turned away after being given cursory treatment and sometimes not even that.

    3. Anyone who considers costs above the health of our people IS A FOOL!!!!

    4. 50-some people a day are dying due to lack of health care coverage. If it was war,we'd stop.

  • Checks and balances are a thing of the past Unfortunately. Can't you hear it? It's in the wind. Can't you smell it? It's everywhere. Can't you see it? It's right in front of you. Why won't you acknowledge it? Because the government is going to push it and push it. Until the American People get SO Angry,It will lead to blood. I pray it doesn't happen. Martial Law Installed as a result. Meaning = America gone Forever. We lose.you think I'm wrong, then look around-Its time to wake up America.

  • this is the very reason why medications are bad. they control us and allow these imbeciles to control our lives

  • The better question is who will check and balance the health insurance conglomerates? A public option will give them competition and give consumers more choice.

  • And even a bigger question is why aren't more people paying attention to this. I wanna see this on mainstream media. Wake up people.

  • Government never plays fair with competition. Instead it promotes tyranny and abuse of power. Everywhere government has been implemented is tyranny and abuse of people. Our framers constructed our constitution to protect citizens from this mob rule mentality that we are seeing today. this will lead to a revolution because people want freedom not tyranny by way of entitlements.

  • Helping people equals tyranny? Please take that and run with it as far as you all can.

    lol

  • Do you really need that explained to you? Hitler, in his mind, thought he was "helping" the people of Germany. Just because someone feels that they are helping people - on other people's dime - does not make it right, just, or good. What if I decided to come and take some of your private property because I "just want to help you". See, you don't understand what you need. Do you see how elitist and arrogant that position really is? Not EVERYONE wants things handed to them.

  • She said ".. that's not the bill that's drafted in the Senate".

Wait.. didn't they say elsewhere that there is no Senate bill yet?
