same thing happened to me, I am on my second motor in my 06 ss/sc, your #4 piston looked exactly like my #1 did. All rebuilt and running again though. I have done some top speed tests on that same stretch of the 202 by the way.
same reason i sold my cobalt. Made 281whp, had enough with it and bought a 370z. About to put a 100shot in the Z, just waiting for second set of parts for the 2nd intake.
Ok honestly enough of these gay civic junk its about time we got some real american muscle even if it is a 4 and not a v8, Im gona wait till the 2010 c-balt ss comes out or 09 cuz its cheaper ur balt is saweet cant wait till u get it running post post post!!!
@Blown4banger no, turbo cobalts are better built better stock motor i've been over 300whp and 340wtq for roughly 35k miles.... i beat on it almost every day and it just asks for more lol stock clutch and everything
@widowedeight The turbo has cooler intake temps, thats why you haven't blown up yet. Also, my stock clutch was fine after ~7000 miles at 300 whp. Its really a matter of luck with these cars. Also the LNF and LSJ share connecting rods, and crank. The LNF has lower compression, another reason it can handle high boost levels.
@Blown4banger The LNF is a wimpy engine, my LSJ will crush you, your lack of torque and inability to launch hard will cost you the race, the intake temp on the stock to stock is warmer yes, but at high boost, the supercharged TVS is far more efficient, and a 1600 degree electronics fryer will not sustain itself in a summer of highboost promise you that. And the stock clutch is a pos, stop lying, all the cobalt SS owners I know have fried the stock clutch without mods and are good experienced ppl
@Strelitz50 Ok, first of all, I already know you have no idea what your talking about, simply because you act like you do, and almost all your facts are completely wrong. For one, my car had an LSJ, also the LNF IS a better built stock engine. As for the stock clutch, the people you know just don't drive good. My clutch was perfectly fine, and I actually sold my stock clutch to a friend, and the clutch is STILL to this day, working fine. I can assure you my Cobalt would have destroy yours.
@Blown4banger Dude are you on crack? The throwout bearing is crap, the clutch rod is a toothpick, and there is no way your stock clutch can support a dime over 300hp without wearing unnaturally. I put 350 to the ground and have a hard time holding with a stage 4 clutch. If you can't beat a stock '10 Camaro SS wouldn't bother trying to beat me.
Don't get a Cobalt period. The Ecotec is not a good motor to put mods on, its good for about stock form or maybe light mods. As soon as you start doing shit to them, they blow up.
Update? Ok how bout this, I finished the motor, drove it for 2 months, then is spun a rod bearing, and cracked the crank. After that, I was done with that car. So I got it back together, and sold it. I have an 86 Corolla, that's WAY more fun than the Cobalt, and rear wheel drive.
cobalts r pretty realiable...just as much as any other car. i rolled my cobalt LS, rolled 3 times and landed on the roof, 3 people in the car and no injuries...safe car.
Yeah, unfortunately I got it all back together, and shortly after I got it broken in, for no reason (cruising at 67 mph on the freeway in 5th gear with cruise control on), it spun a rod bearing :( So now I have to tear it down and rebuild it... AGAIN.
YOU FCKIN ROCK DUDE! Your video has completely inspired me to stop with what i've done because I know if I push anymore it will do the same thing. We need more cobalters like you man that make that shit rule.
Nice vid man. i blew my LSJ in my Red Line with a 2.7 inch pulley hitting @ 135mph wot 24psi. what caused it was heat detonation and cracked cyl. #1 and #4.
good vid bro, i feel for u on the loss of ur cobalt dunno what i would do if i lost mine, be sure to make a follow up video when u get it running. 5 stars!!!
awesome video man... when did u blow the engine and how much was the rebuild and also with the new pistons and whatnot are you seeing a big hp difference?
I never got a chance to take it to the track in good conditions with race gas. On stock tires I had major traction problems so my best run was only 14.1 @ 108 mph lol
bring that shit back soon. i also own a 06 cobalt what the hell did you do to blow it up? i thought these motors could hold 350 hp on the stock internals?
Yea man 06 cobalt ss here too... Nothin like that happen to me yet! But was going to rebuilt it anywaz year of then year '09.instead of useing the Supercharger was going with the STS turbo system they say i could withstand 25-30 psi.. If change out the internals.. But yea man very touching video rated 5 stars.. GOOD LUCK to ya man!!!!

How much power did you push on the first motor, and how many miles did it have when it popped? Was it tuned by professionals? Just curious.
