  • Great match, but I fucking hate this angle! Can't see the actual angles the players are getting with the ball, nor the pace.

  • It appears that Federer's movement was much better in 08. I guess even deities can get older :P.

  • Isn't Madrid a clay court?

  • tsonga took revenge of this defeat by beating him in montreal 2011 6-1 in 3rd set too bad for fedex but still he is my all tym fav

  • What sport is that ? Ping - Pong ? Oo omg

  • And yesterday, Tsonga won against Federer at Wimblendon!! Time go fast !!!

  • tro

  • i have no idea why tsonga isnt reguarly in the top ten

  • the main reason I'd like to become a professional tennis player is to play on court with those hot ball girls...

  • @Buffsterron And iof you have Novak's luck, you get to hit a ballgirl's cap right off of her head. Then you get to hug her...maybe get her number. You will probably get raped in long distance charges...lol

  • Madrid turns a tennis match into a sexploitation event. Look what they are doing with the ball kids. The horny Spaniards won't tune in unless the girls are hot and wearing short skirts.

  • @cys12141

its all good entertainment and business

those are essentially the backbones of any sports on broadcast

  • this angle is way too high!

  • @podge325 i was JUST thinking that same thing

  • wow the Madrid courts are wicked fast!

  • Where the difference is between the likes of Fed and Nadal and Tsonga in particular is the tactics and consistency, i somehow feel that Tsong plays out of talent, or it looks like it, where Fed kinda more knows what´s he´s doing and he´s shots are more wellthought.

Tsonga has incredible touch at the net thou.

  • what a pansy at 9:19

  • lol i remember when tsonga beat nadal in Australian open 2008 saying that he will be unstoppable........ mmmmm that statement has been deleted the very second this match started. What was that tsonga? lol

  • 9:18 that was federer's way of saying pay attention

  • Hey wat870 the Madrid tournament changed the surface to clay in 2009

  • LOL @elohite LMFAO

  • This match in my opinion is where fed gainedrespect for tsonga

  • Isn't the madrid masters on clay. i've seen videos on youtube of it being played on hard and clay. so which one is it?

  • @wat870 ur probably thinking of the monte carlo masters

  • @doneintheD16 I don't think so. The court had "madrid" written on it and it was clay

  • federers a fucking tank!!!

  • absolutely amazing

  • 4:42 the commentator called Federer world No.1 even though he was No.2 at that time...lol

This is federer, people are not used to him not being NO.1....

    so good!

  • Actually, Federer didn't lose his number 1 ranking till a few tournaments after Wimbledon, in about August, when the US Open started.. If you look at Wimbledon 2008, he was still number 1. Federer never lost his number one number until up to that point. He then regained No.1 as he won his 6th Wimbledon to year later.

  • @natbrain at the beginning of this match the announcer called federer the "world number 2," so I think andy316800 is correct, it was a mistake calling Fed #1 here. Can hardly blame him though, since he had been #1 for four years

  • Mutua Madrilena Madrid has always been in May or so. If you look at Federer's ranking statistics, Federer was still number one coming into Wimbledon 2008, which was after Madrid 2008. Federer never at anytime lost his number one ranking between when he first got it in February 2004 to about August 2008. Federer was number 2 from August 08 to July 09. Federer regained his number one ranking by winning Wimbledon 2009, so I think the commentator was right. Federer was number one at this time.

  • @natbrain

Last year the Madrid Open was indeed held in May, when it was also switched to an outdoor clay court. However until then, including 2008, it was actually held in October (indoor hard courts).

  • That's right. I forgot about that. World number 2 indeed.

  • @andy316800 Yeah... How would anyone deal with a sudden change like that? I mean, calling him number 1 for 4 and a half consecutive years... :D

  • tsongas not thinking straight. He shoulve aimed everything at federers backhand

  • yea, you should try play with federer first before saying any bull shit

  • damn... i thought tsonga woulda gotten that rally point...

  • Madrid has grorgous ball girls. Every year.

Makes all the guys play better

  • ya think so?

  • ball babes

  • @Elohite it's a guy's instinct :)

  • @Elohite I heard they give complementary blow jobs, after matches..

  • 4:43 the commentor said "great stuff from the WORLD NUMBER ONE!" told you guys federer's always number one :P

  • indeed, he called him the world no 1 when he met soderling in the previous round too.

  • tsonga is the king

  • seriously! don´ t right the results in the informationbox pleace :) just so you know to the next time!

  • lmao 9:17 poor guy

  • awesome rally at 4:20

  • 'brilliant stuff from the world number 1' lol

  • was he talking about Roger?....if so, he was right

  • Some points are't beautiful enough to choose to the highlight.

  • federer has an edge over shot making players where as grinders like nadal, murray, nalbandian beat him repeatedly. reverse is the case with nadal.power players can beat him

  • Comment removed

  • Federer rules!!!!

  • i love how the video show's the great shots from both players.... great video!

  • 8:17 for epic lols

  • 4:41 the commentator says world NUMBER ONE xaxxa

  • OMG!!! First set is amazing and spectacular... Unfortunately Tsonga in the second one wasn't in full form... anyway he is very good, but Federer is and will reamain the number one!!! ; )

  • Who thinks he will do good this year? Then thumbs up!

Dont be an ass hole by thumbing down yeah i meant you!!!... You know who you are...

  • haha i love your comment!!

fedex will rock the tour this year

  • STFU IDIOT

  • Why is the camera so far away?...in other tournaments you can see the game closer

  • Federer did that move he did in the aussie open match against seppi! at 4:33

  • lol the commentator says world number one when federer hits the shot. that just shows that he and everyone else still sees federer as number one

  • the guy behind tsonga sound like chinese style

  • well Istill thinks he's number 1, but sadly he isn't

  • He was still number 1 at this time i think. Nadal took over later in the year

  • listen at 7:35

  • whats wrong with 7.35 its just tsonga grunting

  • TSONGA!!

  • tsonga is awsome!!!!!!!

    mi fav player

  • My two favorite players :)

  • not at the time

  • yes, nadal was number one at the time

  • golliwog lost again!!!

  • brilliant stuff from the world number 1 :D:D:D!!! at 4:40

such a shame that roger is only number 2 but rafa is good representative

  • some clean hitting, really handsome tennis

  • hahahaha!! 9:17!! what a wimp!

  • LOL Tsonga's so cute at 8:18

  • At 4'50, amazing point!! They both could meet at the AO 2009 Final! Wait and see!!

  • theyre both beasts, but tsonga seems to play a more dangerous kind of tennis, he cant control it sometimes, if he coud all the time he would be like top 5 easy

  • to bad he is top five lol

  • tsongas a quality player

  • Tennis matches involving shotmakers are great to watch -- showing off varied shots in their arsenal, the point construction, footwork and athleticism. The audience gets its money's worth.

  • It seems like Federer's slice return approach shot is almost impossible to handle.

Federer was on fire in Madrid. Too bad he had to retire though.

  • he retired in the paris masters not madrid

  • Yeah, I figured that out just a minute after my post.

  • why did he retire??

  • he did not retire. fed did not show up for their showdown with blake because of back problems. that was his first match withdrawal but he, along with blake, are the only active players to have not retired a single match during all the matches of their careers.

  • Brilliant game, Federer was on fire.

Tsonga, good try, but you got a lesson in tennis there.

  • in terms of skill level surely federer is the GOAT, which makes him the world number 1 in dis era as well even though the ranking doesnt show it

  • LOL how the commentator forgot that Rog is no longer #1 after THAT shot at 4:38! that shot was just unreal!

  • I really hope that both Tsonga and Federer play more at net next year

  • yerr they r both my fav.

    amazing to watch

  • Love the new youtube. Lmao...

  • great performance by Federer

  • SonGA GOT WORKED YO!!!!1

  • Federer was brilliant during this match, his form was great, and that serve at 9:29, wow! Tsonga was putting some great shots, too. Loved this match.

  • fasinating

  • ball girls here are sexy, unlike in the US open. blah.

  • ya they purposely find models as ball girls during this tournament. They get paid quite alot as well to do the job. Purposely showing off their sexy girls of Spain ;P

  • I'm really not getting the hang of commentators calling Federer "the World number 2", it just doesn't ring a bell at all!

  • I agree...But Connors was #2 and underneath Borg for a while, while a previous #1.

  • you forgot to mention both of them were world number one for many consequtive years before they were dethroned.

  • federers shoes look like soccer cleets

  • At 4:40, the commentators said "Brilliant stuff for the World Number 1", Fed is actually number 2, but some of us still consider him as the world number 1. We love you Fed !

  • haha when i heard that i was like uhoh

  • two hard court heavy weights going at it.

This kind of match is some of the highest quality you will see.

Clay is to long and drought out, while grass is more about a big serve big strokes.

Hardcourt is probably the most difficult to master simply because there are so many ways you can play it.

  • at 4:38 "what a point!... from the world no.1", hahaha...even the commentator forgot federer's no.2 at the time... federer and no.1 are two things that always link together when one is reminded.

  • Will be interesting to see what Tsonga can get up to next season, the potential is certainly there

  • no.1 of course

  • hahahaah!!thats heaps good ...there so used to fed being number 1..taht even tho ehs number 2 atm at 4 47 they call him number 1 agian lol

  • Federer is still no.1 for me.

  • at 9:16 . guy is a wuss. "o no ball coming! help! "

  • You'd try dodging it too if you were in his position.

  • no. you see i have these things called hands and i've been trained to use these hands to catch things; whether it be speeding footballs, baseballs, tennis balls, racquetballs, etc. so no i wouldn't cower. instead i'd be estatic to catch it and keep it as a souvenir. and you fail for trying to assume you know me.

  • Sure you have hands, we all do. Maybe if it was a regular groundstroke rather than a overhead then it wouldn't be so scary. Professional doubles players still flinch and turn around when an easy smash is about be hit by their opponents. Are you going to call professional tennis players, what you cannot be, wusses too because they react a natural human reaction?

  • again i say i've caught balls of various types and sizes. it's not the point of having hands but how i use them. next, the flinch you described is not a natural human reaction but a trained reaction to prevent excessive injury; better to be safe than sorry. why would i consider that being a wuss? why compare a tennis player on court with a guy safe in the stands?

  • the one at 2.28 was like a whip! and the rally where the commentator said he was number one was insane! one of the best rallies ive ever seen

  • these guys would make an awesome doubles team!!

  • i really hoped Tsonga could pull this one off. next time maybe.

  • murray beat federer to make the final =[

  • he said brilliant stuff from the world num 1 !!!!!!!!num 2 !!but the way he's playing , he's num 1

  • Tsonga should try coming to the net a little more... he won all his net points

  • did the commentator said "brilliant stuff from world no.1" at 4'45"??lol

  • stella performance again by the world number one..woops i mean world number 2! And also a stellar performance by you again Mr Vid boy.. Thanks a bunch for your tireless efforts with posting these highlights! Cheers....

  • "....from the world number ONE." - lol

  • As good or even great the Nadal forehand is I still believe that Federer's is the best!!!

  • lol did anybody catch that? "What a point! Brillian stuff from the WORLD NUMBER ONE!" haha! Nearly fell off my chair laughing. Just to note the current world number one is Rafael Nadal lol but people are finding a hard time getting use to calling Federer the world number two :P

  • Thanks for posting this. I missed this and really wanted to see this match-up

  • Tsonga made too many enforced errors. Double faulting on break point shows he was clearly nervous to play Federer. Who could blame him though? It's really demoralizing how Roger can consistently ace down the 'T'. His serve is ridiculously deceptive.

  • Thanks for sharing im missing all thes madrid matches cause im so busy thanks thanks

  • A lesson in tennis by Roger Federer,

    Poor Tsonga, he fell apart.

  • 4:41 "What a point from the world number 1." Ha, thats classic. We all still view it that way.

  • hahaha! I myself is still not used to Roger as world no. 2!

  • his forehand is not really clicking yet ...

  • these 2 are my fav players, wished the match was more tightly contested, but in the end, well done fed on another win :), hope tsonga continues to play well also =).

  • It doesn't look to me like Rog is hitting his groundstrokes so sharply at the moment...but it is nice to see the ol' 2nd serve chip n charge. Classic! It really is one of the best slices ever, and I like that he's putting it to good use.

  • yea but federer said before madrid he is going to take a break after this (i think) he is unwell give the guy a break!!!!

  • Oh. Are you sure he said that? I didn't know. But it is his first tournament since the usopen right? So he's been resting for over a month now, I hope he doesn't need too much more rest.

  • In fact, Roger's been resting for only 3 weeks coz he played 2 Davis Cup matches ^_^

  • yep totally sure mate said on the bbc

  • Why the thumbs down I wonder? Do the thumbs downers disagree and instead think Roger is hitting his groundies at their sharpest? If so why did he lose to Murray?

  • he had a bad day

  • seems like a lot of people still used to Federer as world #1. Just listen at 4:42 ;p.

  • haha yeah, I just was about to comment on that too :)

  • It's almost automatic haha.

  • well..the truth is that fedex is numb. one!! :D

  • seriously i didn't catch that until i watched it for the second time. it just sounds so natural.
