hey Eric, I have a question about my clutch 95 honda civic ex. I replaced my hydraulic cylinder because my car was very hard to switch gears and it was leaking however after replacing the master is still not letting me switch gears, it does sometimes but it makes an awful noise in the faceplate of the transmission. when i step on the pedal it makes a sort of of rattleing sound even if Im not switching gears. I appreciate your help brother.
to add on to my question below, it only made bad sounds while the clutch pedal was pressed, im thinking it could have been one of the springs that got loose? bearing sound ok, and there is no sound now, but its shaking really bad when starting in 1st, could it be that the flywheel was damaged?
i got a 1998 golf mk4 its a 1.6 sr.. I parked the car at home and everything was fine, the next day, clutch wouldnt release. i had to start it in gear while going forward :O i drove cars before without clutch so i took a drive, pumping the clutch and it let go again, but when i pressed the clutch pedal car was breaking and there was a sound like loose parts or grinding, sound was gone before i got home (only like 500 meters),its shaking when releasing the clutch now (last 6-7 months), any idea?
hey eric, i have a clutch question....i have a 2000 vw jetta (hydraulic clutch), and it makes a squeaking noise and sometimes binds when the pedal is between bottomed out and slightly off the floor...the clutch grabs plenty and never slips, could this be a throwout bearing or possibly slave cylinder problem?
Hydraulic clutch pedals can be adjusted for free play on Mitsubishi's (and Proton's for applicable continents), all you need is a 10mm spanner behind the clutch pedal itself. Pretty much critical for adjustment otherwise the clutch will not engage properly and will cause premature wear over time or replacement
hey i need to ask i think my clutch is starting to go when i redline my car in 1st and 2nd there is no problem but in 3rd gear around 6000rpm to 8000rpm my car does not go any faster just the rpm keeps going my car is a 1996 civic
@BlinginTom not necessarily, it may mean that your syncro-mesh is not working in that gear - try double clutching eg. if you are going from 1st to reverse, stop in neutral, take your foot of the clutch for a second and then press it down again and put it into reverse.
hi eric! i have an 05 nissan sentra and i was wondering is it bad that im able to get the car going when its in second gear with out a problem...like sometimes ill be at a stop lite and itll turn green and ill go to shift and it will have already been in second without me even noticing
i thought my clutch was bad. some mechanic said it was all engine mounts. nothings changed. i get chatter everytime i change gear usualy lower gears. lots of judder too when pulling away in first usuing clutch only. maybe fly wheel and clutch?
As you said, I'm not noticing the power I typically do when I throw it into gear and "floor it". The RPM also seem to hesitate and/or "jump" a little bit. Was trying to catch it on film but it seems it it happening sporadically and oddly enough more after I've just switched gears. Once in 6th and cruising on the highway, I can rarely get it to do it again. Almost positive now it's a sticking/slipping clutch. Thank you! You explain things well!
@ACartec Hello Germany! Thank you very much for your comment. I've always wanted to visit Germany if nothing else to run flat out on the Autobahn to see what that's like.
@ACartec We love him in the UK too!!! There is a Ford Focus sold in the UK, but we get all the cars with tiny tiny engines compared to everywhere else. Average here is a 1600cc 4 cylinder with 5speed manual gearbox. Maybe we should all put our country at the start or finish of the message so we can all see where people watch the videos.
I've just spent about 3 hours watching videos, they are educational and very informative with handy hints and tips from a real expert with lots of experience.
@EricTheCarGuy In my car occasionally and it doesn't happen very often but I'll go to put it in 3rd gear, clutch is to the floor and I'm fully into 3rd gear but when I go to let out of the clutch it grinds pretty bad (sometimes with 2nd). When that happens I have to push the clutch back in, take it out of gear, come off the clutch, then push the clutch back in and put it back in gear. Someone told me it was synchros but i have no idea. I have a 2006 acura rsx-s I know they have shitty gearboxes.
@Tom64o They do actually. In your case however I'd be checking the linkage to make sure it's not loose or misadjusted. It's also very important to use Honda fluid in the transmission.
@Tom64o Hondas/acuras do have bad synchros, hence honda guys always talking about double clutching. You should do a flush of you transmissio fluid and see if it helps, if not as eric said, check the linkage; my friend's acura rsx type s does the same thing
@sajustiniano88 That's very hard to say it could be a number of things, check for oil leaks onto the exhaust and do a compression test to see what kind of shape the engine is in.
Isn't also true that if the clutch was toast the gear shifter will not go into 1st gear? I think that was the problem I had when I had an '01 Escort ZX2 (Focus predecessor)
@Michiganborn1969 Yea sometimes that does happen if the clutch is worn enough. Thanks for your comment man sorry it took so long to get back with you.
@matt198531 As far as I know, that whirling noise is absolutely normal, you can hear it on most manual transmissions (it depends on how good your car's acoustic isolation is). That noise comes from the output shaft spinning freely at the speed of your idling engine. I don't know exactly which part/s causes that noise. My dad works at Renault's gearbox factory in Sevilla and explained to me. Even my brand new Clio makes that little noise.
@matt198531 That doesn't sound like a clutch bearing so much as the input shaft bearings, try changing the fluid to see if the noise changes or goes away.
Other good trick to know: get on the streets, drive at about 50km/h (most likely 3th gear), shift and put it in 5th (or highest you got) then press the pedal to the metal! Look at your revs, if those shoot up without an increase in speed, you probably have a bad clutch! If the speed increases linear to the revs, you are in the clear!
hey eric, just want to ask, on my honda accord 1999 115k miles, when i step on the gas i feel a jerk before the car moves, and when im in traffic, i feel the jerk as well, could it be my transmission is having issues already? i changed the fluids when it was 60k miles and with 105k miles
Eric is a great asset when your trying to do it yourself and learn about automotive technology. He's pretty much certified to teach college students. It's very useful to know when a clutch is just about to go out on you. I like all Erics vidz
Eric I have a 1994 mazda b4000 and it does the same thing as the ford focus when I let the clutch out not thing happens at all it doesn't surge forward but when it's running and it's in gear I roll the truck back it rolls in gear does that mean the clutch is toast? Or is there something else wrong? Should I be able to roll the truck while it's in gear and running?
I have Corolla 2000 with 150000 miles.there is no leak oil.I have to fill 1qt every 150 miles. the car has 4 cylinders. Do you know what problem with my car?
@gary ....the ford had a hyiuld cltuch and there is only a free play adjusment on the pedal and not the clutch ...if its a cable u just turn the nut like a ebreak cable has to adjust it up and the free play as well
E,u ever herd of a tool company call hubitools? man they have some cool universal tools, Ther a company out of England I believe. I would like to purchase one of there tools. Wher can I find them?
Hey Eric, just wanted to say that after reading your bio, i have a new, more complete understanding and a new respect for who EricTheCarGuy is and why you do what you do. Its only been a week since i found your channel and my automotive knowledge has been seeeeeeriously broadened by your quick tip videos and such. Especially the engine diagnosis one. Anyways, I really appreciate your help to a kid with a passion for cars. GOD BLESS
ok im curious... what are the symptoms for a slipping clutch on an automatic!! I drove a honda the other day and while on the freeway... I'm not sure what gear but at around 2,000rpm it didn't want to go faster.... I kept giving it gas and nothing happened until I fully stepped on it...
I had left my car sitting for a month in the subtropics. Came back to a colony of roaches living in it and a very squeeky clutch on my '03 mazda 2 (I'm in Japan). Found out the servo on the transmission was binding. Some lube sprayed inside of it fixed that - no recurs since then.
Cool video Eric. I'm crossing my fingers that you made a video showing you replacing the clutch b/c my G/f's son drives an '02 Focus CE & it's a 5 speed manuel. It's his 1st car & I'm waiting for the day the clutch does go out. Btw did you find that reverse gear on that shifter hard to engage at first?? I sure did. I didn't know you had to pull up on a lever for it slip into reverse.
clutch master cylinder on the inside of the firewall and they tend to start leaking premature. you sometimes wont notice it right away most of the time the fluid runs behind the carpet and insulation and you have to peel it back a bit to see the fluid loss. just something to look out for...
hey Eric. do you already have this job done? i did one not to long ago it was on the 04 focus with the DOHC engine though. I remember looking over the repair info from aldata when it came in just to see what i was in for & it looked pretty involved! but after getting into it turned out to be a pretty easy one and i did this one on jack stands instead of a lift like i normally use. the one thing i do remember about these cars im not sure if yours is the same but most are running the
@EricTheCarGuy hey eric thanks for the video and ignore people like woot w.e this was useful even for me and im going to an automotive school :) thanks for the nice video qualities ur the best man and as always stay dirty. ^_^
Hey, I'm video response-ing you with an adjustable hydraulic setup for all 4g6x series Mitsubishis. Some of the 4g15 cars are cable-actuated, otherwise I'd have said 4gxx.
Great video! Good info, I certainly learned something! (ツ) b
Wow......after i've been saying that the topics of ETCG has gone down hill for a week or two. This clutch video comes out. I think its quite clear when a clutch is going out. Even the most novice drivers know when something is different. Sorry eric, but i think you need to go back to your more advanced type of videos. Engine swaps, electrical problems, turbos/superchargers, etc. Clutch slipping vids, calipers, windows, etc are lame video topics
@EricTheCarGuy not to mention, it seems like the new "more confident eric" as you put it is a little less enthusiastic. The old eric seemed to laugh more in front of the camera and just seemed to have more fun with it
@W00tW00tful lol i couldn't agree with u anymore u are not the only one who thinks that way too he be doin some sissy jobs as of lately... anyone could diagnose a slipping clutch
@W00tW00tful...ppl of this channel just learned ur a dick, i think you've tought us enough for one video... maybe you just haven't learned enough to have your cup overfill on you, to find later down the road you forgot some simple tips.
@shoeb2015 LOL guess what???? replacing the clutch at that point works just as well. there is no need to "diagnose" a slipping clutch. You feel it slip, you know you have to replace it. its just up to you when you replace it. Now, later, when the car doesn't move. All personal choice. This vid was pretty pointless.
@offroadingmachine007 lol he needs to realize that this is the internet. And i think i know a fair amount about cars. Not enough to be a technician. But i've done my share of car repairs with no formal training. And they've all worked. Ball joints, engine swaps, clutch replacements, shocks, CV joints, spark plugs, speed sensors, timing belts, water pumps, exhaust manifolds, ECUs, etc. I'm just wanting more of the old eric that did the more interesting car repairs.
@W00tW00tful You know, as sad as it is...what your said is NOT true. Drivers (and not even novice drivers mind you) these days don't know when something is wrong with their cars. There are people who drives for several minutes after their coolant is ejected from their engine and only notice that something is wrong when their car stopped. There are numerous youtube videos of people who killed their engine because they drove it for DAYS without any engine oil in it. You need basic stuff too.
@ColdNapalm42 and to those people. I suggest they get an automatic car. They obviously can't tell when something is wrong. And should get a car with as little things that need replacing as possible. I think if you have a manual, you're more in tune with the car, and should realize when its slipping.
@W00tW00tful You do realize that autos in general are MORE complex with more things that can go wrong right? Not to mention the extra costs (usually) that somebody may not want to pay. Just because you choose to get a manual doesn't make you more in tune with your car...it may just mean your cheap. Nor does choosing a manual automatically make one a car guru who somehow becomes immune to being a moron. Knoweldge is knoweldge...just because YOU know it already doesn't mean EVERYONE else does too.
@ColdNapalm42 ok, autos are more complex, but they dont need any maintainance until 200k+ where as a manual needs a new clutch at 100k. If someone gets a manual and they dont know how the basics of it works, then they're an idiot. You dont go and pick a advanced math class when you can hardly pass basic algebra. And i know it, but others should know it too. If the car slips, it needs a new clutch. Or until it slips to the point where it doesn't move. Then you call AAA
@ColdNapalm42 clutches in my opinion are like timing belts on a non-interference engine, water pumps, accessory belts, or radiators. You replace them when they dont work anymore. You can replace it earlier, but nothing bad happens if you wait till the last moment. And it does seem that those that pick manuals are more knowledgeable about cars. You dont see soccer moms opt for the manual sedan do you?
@W00tW00tful Umm yes they do. Just because YOU don't see it doesn't somehow magically mean it doesn't happen. It's pretty egotistical to think that just because you believe that soccer moms don't buy manuals means that they somehow magically don't. In fact the manual RAV-4 is quite popular for soccer moms around here. And you think an auto doesn't need any maintance til 200k miles?!? WTF?!? Are you on crack? And you need to be a car guy/gal or you MUST pay the extra 2 grand for an auto?!?
@IIGrayfoxII lol 2 things. 1st, My little pony kicks ass, you should watch it (im sure eric is a brony). 2nd, eric needs to narrow his audience. Is he making videos for those that dont know anything about cars? if so, then vids like this would be perfect. Or is he making videos to the more advanced mechanics? he is going to release a vid next monday about the actual clutch repair. I think if you can replace a clutch, you dont need to be told when its slipping.
@W00tW00tful - you make a good point.....maybe Eric should make a 2nd channel, one for beginners and the other for advance people. Because im sure if Eric makes a video on how to change a clutch, beginners wont have the tools to change it. But its good that Eric makes some for beginners because there are a lot of people that don't know about cars and it good for them to know a little bit so they wont get ripped off or if its small fix maybe they can do it. Anyway, you the man Eric
1:My little pony is only good if you are a girl below the age of 13, if you are male and above the age if 15 this makes you a pedophile in my book.
2: Eric is making videos for all people.
3: some people are idiots when it comes to cars and they don't know when something is wrong until the "Check Engine" light comes on, half the time they even ignore that.
@IIGrayfoxII lol you've obviously never seen MLP. And what makes you think males over 15 are pedos? there are no little kids at all in the entire series. They're all voiced by women over the age of 25 or so.
Eric is not making videos for all people. Is he making makeup tutorials? no. he's appealing to car people. People who dont watch dont work on their own car
People that dont do anything even when the check engine light comes on will not benefit at all from this video. theyre too dumb
@IIGrayfoxII just watch the show, it'll all make sense, i was like you once. And i should state, im a 23 year old male with no sexual attractions to young children. Nor am i homosexual, i enjoy manly things, cars, weapons, video games, etc
As for the linkage. Cable clutches went out of production around the early 90's. Most now are hydraulic, and as eric said, are typically not adjustable. So when its slipping there is a 99% chance its the clutch. Unless you drive a car from the 80s
@W00tW00tful What is wrong with eric making something for the novice people too? Did you know it all when you turned 16 and had your first car? You do know that we get brand spanking drivers every day right? And they maybe willing to learn about their cars...but if there are only asshats like yourself who only care about the advanced stuff and anyone who needs to know the basics is unworthy, what do they do then? Yes I know when a clutch is slipping, I don't assume everyone else does.
@ColdNapalm42 i didnt know it all when i turned 16 and got my car. But i knew enough to do most repairs. I grew up doing all the repairs on my family's cars.
If you want to learn, go to a forum of the car that you drive. Simple as that. I suppose since i learned all my stuff through forums where people bash noobs who dont google it themselves and need to be spoon fed, their view on things has rubbed off on me.
@W00tW00tful And you think pushing people away who know less then you as noobs is a good thing because?!? WTF is wrong with you. The whole point of the interwebz is to share our collective knoweldge...not show off how much of an asshat we can be and compare our cock sizes with how much more we know then the next guy. And consider what you just said about car forums, I would even go as far as to say do NOT go on forums if they are full of asshats like you.
@ColdNapalm42 You must have nothing better to do than to go around and bitch about Eric who's trying to help people with their problems they have with their car. Why don't you go play with yourself you'll get better results.
@ColdNapalm42 i think people should do some research on their own rather than come to EricTheSpoonFeeder. That way they can get car specific information about how to do something. And you share knowledge, but not after some hassling the noob. Thats just how forums go. The internet can be a pretty mean place, you just have to realize that.
If you dont want to go to the forums, your choice. Just realize eric can't teach you everything. Not to mention there are much better guides on forums
@W00tW00tful Do you even remotely have any idea how much WRONG info is out there in some of those forums?!? You have any idea how much trouble that can get you in?!? The internet isn't just full of mean people like yourself, it is full of morons...like yourself (since you seemed to think that auto are less complex then manual and don't need any maintance till 200k miles). Eric is a good reliable source...for noobs or the experts so that is a GOOD thing.
@ColdNapalm42 LOL there is wrong info, yes. But you need common sense to know when they're messing with you. And no i can't get into any trouble. Because no one would be able to find me without a warrant for first the forum to release my IP then for my ISP to reveal my address.
As for the auto transmissions, yes they last 200k miles. I have a tundra, an accord, and a sentra all with about 160-220k on the clock. None of them have ever needed any tranny work.
@W00tW00tful Good for you skippy...you know how many auto trannies with wasted solenoids I have seen? And not all of them are american. I have seen the torque converter go out, various seals leaking to cause issues and there is of course just the gears themselves braking (but that happens on manual too). All this at well below 100k miles for a lot of them. Just because YOU with your sample of 3 out of MILLIONS hasn't had any issue at less then 200k doesn't mean that ALL autos are like that.
@ColdNapalm42 haha, ok. I'm just saying. If you want a more problem free car. Get an auto. You run a slight risk of it not getting to 200k, but its better than a guaranteed clutch going out at 100k
@ohiAbyss ....Yes Thats what i said. If you don't konw how to diagnose a slipping clutch, then you're not automotively inclined in the slightest, and should be driving an auto.
@ColdNapalm42 Theyve just needed regular fluid changes. And since most people dont drive a car until its at 200k, there ya go, you dont need to fix anything. Now if you go American, thats another thing entirely, you're just asking for trouble there.
Not wanting to be "that guy", but...Seeing as that Focus has the SPI, and considering it needs a clutch, its a safe bet it's up there in mileage. My guess is it'll be back in soon with a dropped valve seat. Although there will most likely be video, sooooo....
@Romulan112 Depends on the vehicle actually, some are harder to work on than others I can't say that any one configuration is better than the other when it comes to that.
eric i love you videos ive been in the field working in a dealer since october and i feel at home!

@matt198531 That doesn't sound like a clutch bearing so much as the input shaft bearings, try changing the fluid to see if the noise changes or goes away.
EricTheCarGuy 2 months ago
Other good trick to know: get on the streets, drive at about 50km/h (most likely 3th gear), shift and put it in 5th (or highest you got) then press the pedal to the metal! Look at your revs, if those shoot up without an increase in speed, you probably have a bad clutch! If the speed increases linear to the revs, you are in the clear!

I had left my car sitting for a month in the subtropics. Came back to a colony of roaches living in it and a very squeeky clutch on my '03 mazda 2 (I'm in Japan). Found out the servo on the transmission was binding. Some lube sprayed inside of it fixed that - no recurs since then.

Clutch slipping vids, calipers, windows, etc are lame video topics

shoeb2015 3 months ago 2
@shoeb2015 LOL guess what???? replacing the clutch at that point works just as well. there is no need to "diagnose" a slipping clutch. You feel it slip, you know you have to replace it. its just up to you when you replace it. Now, later, when the car doesn't move. All personal choice. This vid was pretty pointless.

Ball joints, engine swaps, clutch replacements, shocks, CV joints, spark plugs, speed sensors, timing belts, water pumps, exhaust manifolds, ECUs, etc. I'm just wanting more of the old eric that did the more interesting car repairs.

beefystik 3 months ago
@W00tW00tful You know, as sad as it is...what your said is NOT true. Drivers (and not even novice drivers mind you) these days don't know when something is wrong with their cars. There are people who drives for several minutes after their coolant is ejected from their engine and only notice that something is wrong when their car stopped. There are numerous youtube videos of people who killed their engine because they drove it for DAYS without any engine oil in it. You need basic stuff too.
ColdNapalm42 3 months ago
@ColdNapalm42 and to those people. I suggest they get an automatic car. They obviously can't tell when something is wrong. And should get a car with as little things that need replacing as possible. I think if you have a manual, you're more in tune with the car, and should realize when its slipping.
W00tW00tful 3 months ago
@W00tW00tful You do realize that autos in general are MORE complex with more things that can go wrong right? Not to mention the extra costs (usually) that somebody may not want to pay. Just because you choose to get a manual doesn't make you more in tune with your car...it may just mean your cheap. Nor does choosing a manual automatically make one a car guru who somehow becomes immune to being a moron. Knoweldge is knoweldge...just because YOU know it already doesn't mean EVERYONE else does too.
ColdNapalm42 3 months ago
@ColdNapalm42 ok, autos are more complex, but they dont need any maintainance until 200k+ where as a manual needs a new clutch at 100k. If someone gets a manual and they dont know how the basics of it works, then they're an idiot. You dont go and pick a advanced math class when you can hardly pass basic algebra. And i know it, but others should know it too. If the car slips, it needs a new clutch. Or until it slips to the point where it doesn't move. Then you call AAA
W00tW00tful 3 months ago
@ColdNapalm42 clutches in my opinion are like timing belts on a non-interference engine, water pumps, accessory belts, or radiators. You replace them when they dont work anymore. You can replace it earlier, but nothing bad happens if you wait till the last moment. And it does seem that those that pick manuals are more knowledgeable about cars. You dont see soccer moms opt for the manual sedan do you?
W00tW00tful 3 months ago
@W00tW00tful Umm yes they do. Just because YOU don't see it doesn't somehow magically mean it doesn't happen. It's pretty egotistical to think that just because you believe that soccer moms don't buy manuals means that they somehow magically don't. In fact the manual RAV-4 is quite popular for soccer moms around here. And you think an auto doesn't need any maintance til 200k miles?!? WTF?!? Are you on crack? And you need to be a car guy/gal or you MUST pay the extra 2 grand for an auto?!?
ColdNapalm42 3 months ago
@W00tW00tful
Shut up not everyone knows things about cars.
My sister said to i press the cluch to reverse.
When i told her how to reverse she just looked at me with a WHAT? kind of look.
I want you to make a video of you fixing a car.
So record your slef, edit the video then upload it.
If you can't to it then shut up you idiot you are the reason people hate america and go back to watching My little pony.
IIGrayfoxII 3 months ago
@IIGrayfoxII lol 2 things. 1st, My little pony kicks ass, you should watch it (im sure eric is a brony). 2nd, eric needs to narrow his audience. Is he making videos for those that dont know anything about cars? if so, then vids like this would be perfect. Or is he making videos to the more advanced mechanics? he is going to release a vid next monday about the actual clutch repair. I think if you can replace a clutch, you dont need to be told when its slipping.
W00tW00tful 3 months ago
@W00tW00tful - you make a good point.....maybe Eric should make a 2nd channel, one for beginners and the other for advance people. Because im sure if Eric makes a video on how to change a clutch, beginners wont have the tools to change it. But its good that Eric makes some for beginners because there are a lot of people that don't know about cars and it good for them to know a little bit so they wont get ripped off or if its small fix maybe they can do it. Anyway, you the man Eric
AE86HachiRokuGTS 3 months ago
@W00tW00tful
IIGrayfoxII 3 months ago
@IIGrayfoxII lol you've obviously never seen MLP. And what makes you think males over 15 are pedos? there are no little kids at all in the entire series. They're all voiced by women over the age of 25 or so.
Eric is not making videos for all people. Is he making makeup tutorials? no. he's appealing to car people. People who dont watch dont work on their own car
People that dont do anything even when the check engine light comes on will not benefit at all from this video. theyre too dumb
W00tW00tful 3 months ago
@W00tW00tful
I don't want to watch a show about ponies that is made for girls under the age of 13.
And pedophiles watch this sort of thing to attract kids
I watched erics videos and worked on my car. so you are wrong their.
and as eric also said the clutch may not be bad it may be the linkage.
So if you think it is a clutch when it is a linkage you would have wasted alot of money and time.
any more arugements you want to make can be done by sending me messages, the comment is no place for it
IIGrayfoxII 3 months ago
@IIGrayfoxII just watch the show, it'll all make sense, i was like you once. And i should state, im a 23 year old male with no sexual attractions to young children. Nor am i homosexual, i enjoy manly things, cars, weapons, video games, etc
As for the linkage. Cable clutches went out of production around the early 90's. Most now are hydraulic, and as eric said, are typically not adjustable. So when its slipping there is a 99% chance its the clutch. Unless you drive a car from the 80s
W00tW00tful 3 months ago
@W00tW00tful

hobieslug45 3 months ago
@hobieslug45 what....? yes, this video is worthless to those with automatics and those with no car knowledge. Thats kind of what i've been saying
W00tW00tful 3 months ago
@W00tW00tful What is wrong with eric making something for the novice people too? Did you know it all when you turned 16 and had your first car? You do know that we get brand spanking drivers every day right? And they maybe willing to learn about their cars...but if there are only asshats like yourself who only care about the advanced stuff and anyone who needs to know the basics is unworthy, what do they do then? Yes I know when a clutch is slipping, I don't assume everyone else does.
ColdNapalm42 3 months ago
@ColdNapalm42 i didnt know it all when i turned 16 and got my car. But i knew enough to do most repairs. I grew up doing all the repairs on my family's cars.
If you want to learn, go to a forum of the car that you drive. Simple as that. I suppose since i learned all my stuff through forums where people bash noobs who dont google it themselves and need to be spoon fed, their view on things has rubbed off on me.
W00tW00tful 3 months ago
@W00tW00tful And you think pushing people away who know less then you as noobs is a good thing because?!? WTF is wrong with you. The whole point of the interwebz is to share our collective knoweldge...not show off how much of an asshat we can be and compare our cock sizes with how much more we know then the next guy. And consider what you just said about car forums, I would even go as far as to say do NOT go on forums if they are full of asshats like you.
ColdNapalm42 3 months ago
@ColdNapalm42 You must have nothing better to do than to go around and bitch about Eric who's trying to help people with their problems they have with their car. Why don't you go play with yourself you'll get better results.
g8erdone 3 months ago
Respond to this video... Eric thanks a million your a godsend.
g8erdone 3 months ago
@ColdNapalm42 i think people should do some research on their own rather than come to EricTheSpoonFeeder. That way they can get car specific information about how to do something. And you share knowledge, but not after some hassling the noob. Thats just how forums go. The internet can be a pretty mean place, you just have to realize that.
If you dont want to go to the forums, your choice. Just realize eric can't teach you everything. Not to mention there are much better guides on forums
W00tW00tful 3 months ago
@W00tW00tful Do you even remotely have any idea how much WRONG info is out there in some of those forums?!? You have any idea how much trouble that can get you in?!? The internet isn't just full of mean people like yourself, it is full of morons...like yourself (since you seemed to think that auto are less complex then manual and don't need any maintance till 200k miles). Eric is a good reliable source...for noobs or the experts so that is a GOOD thing.
ColdNapalm42 3 months ago
@ColdNapalm42 LOL there is wrong info, yes. But you need common sense to know when they're messing with you. And no i can't get into any trouble. Because no one would be able to find me without a warrant for first the forum to release my IP then for my ISP to reveal my address.
As for the auto transmissions, yes they last 200k miles. I have a tundra, an accord, and a sentra all with about 160-220k on the clock. None of them have ever needed any tranny work.
W00tW00tful 3 months ago
@W00tW00tful Good for you skippy...you know how many auto trannies with wasted solenoids I have seen? And not all of them are american. I have seen the torque converter go out, various seals leaking to cause issues and there is of course just the gears themselves braking (but that happens on manual too). All this at well below 100k miles for a lot of them. Just because YOU with your sample of 3 out of MILLIONS hasn't had any issue at less then 200k doesn't mean that ALL autos are like that.
ColdNapalm42 3 months ago
@ColdNapalm42 haha, ok. I'm just saying. If you want a more problem free car. Get an auto. You run a slight risk of it not getting to 200k, but its better than a guaranteed clutch going out at 100k
W00tW00tful 3 months ago
@W00tW00tful manuals are way better, if your auto tranny goes it's quite expensive for a rebuild, manual rebuilds are about30% of an automatic one
