I am from Philadelphia and I stayed at the Chelsea Hotel in July, 2010. It was a stark contrast to the Park Plaza Sherlock Holmes on Baker Street in London.
to be such an "artsy" place, it sure does pack an expensive price tag. the chelsea hotel is mainly full of yuppies and people trying too hard to be different. new york is not what it used to be.
@southandmaineband Understood, however I played my guitar quite a bit and met Ethan Hawke so I suppose that was cool enough but generally it seems a bit glorified for all the tragic/creative people who have been through it, it should be more like a museum than a hotel!
@Thejbirdy You're absolutely right! Although.. we lived in a studio with a shared bathroom so we "only" paid around $80 a night. But still.. Afterwords we both wanted to go back. Badly :) What kind of room did you have?
@southandmaineband They sent me to a back room but it had a beautiful tiled bathroom but the view was another wall of a building! Haha. Anyway, I did roam the place for a while to view the artworks and greet people I saw. Most of them looked at me like some hick from the South and didn't say a word to me, lol.

I enjoyed my stay at both hotels though.

@Thejbirdy Well.. I certainly did! Stayed a week though so perhaps that's what it takes :) A lot of whisky and a lot of writing music! Awesome.
