@criuth You guess wrong because most of finnish people can't speak Russian (there isn't any Finnish actors in this movie) and Polish actors (they can pronounce Russian very good) in American movies are very rare phenomenon. In this movie most of them are Americans, who just trying to speak Russian. Same like in Red Heat, where is mostly so awful Russian language that even I needed subtitles to understand what the hell they speak to each other:)

For some reason Hollywood filmmakers think that it's well done, when some American actor just studying to speak some lines in Russian language but they don't think that they must pronounce it differently than English:) I guess for Americans it's OK, because they just hear words in foreign language but for international public it's sound like very bad joke. Especially when they watching some spymovie like "Alias" or "Salt".

examples of far worse films (Bug buster, red neck zombies, most sy fi channel movies sadly, hundreds of comedys, halloween resurection, a nighmare on elm street 5, water world, buffy the vampire slayer - the original movie, many roger corman films, all but 1 fred olen ray film, most of the more recent jaws rip offs shark zone, swamo shark) i could name a hundred more easly. this at least has a solid cast, sfx

OK if you compare it to low budget films I agree but this had a pretty big budget. You have to admit that some bits are shockingly bad and the general feel of the film is that it's very cheesy bordering on the grotesque! But I actually kind of like the fact that it's so bad.

First the whole blueish photography is overbearing and cheesy. And when the captain re-emerged cyborg style I burst in laughter. The script is so bad it's almost a joke. A huge waste of a strong cast.

Oh and do like some gore but Evil Dead II - Dead by Dawn is the kind of stuff I'm looking for. Hilarious but genuinely scary and very poetic!

Now THAT is great cinema!

I'm actually glad they are speaking russian at the beginning of the movie. It gives more suspense as to whats happening, and leaves the viewer more to think about. I garuntee if it was some cheesy english dialogue, I would be rolling my eyes already assuming the movie would suck, which it did not!

There are SEVERAL russians in the film. Especially at 1:46. But the rest are americans trying hard to mimic the language.Yes, its hard.. but unlike the modern us films (inclusive James Bond) where they write and speak garbage and pretend it is russian, here they are actually trying hard to say things... respect.

I love Virus very much. Yes, it was like mix of Aliens, RoboCop, Terminator BUT the storyline was very interesting. The movie wasn't boring and Jamie Lee Curtis, D.Sutharland, W.Baldwin & Joanna Pacula showed brilliant acting. Virus is definitely one of the most underrated and overlooked Sci-Fi films of the 90's (along with Strange Days, Alien 3, Them, Lawnmower Man, Virtuosity, FutureSport, The Time Shifters, The Apocalypse (1997), The Arrival, Mimic, Shadowchaser, Space Truckers etc)

Why was this movie hated back in the day? I think I went to see this in the cinema back in 99' when I was really young...it has always stuck in my memory as one of the best sci-fi horror movies- up there near The Thing & Alien! The very fact that Donald Sutherland is in this movie makes it great!
