That looks like an extremely beefy subcompact. Nice to see it's not as narrow as the Fiesta. I'm gonna consider this car, maybe the Sonic too. Somewhere in there, there's a 2012
I'm very impressed with the direction Kia has taken. The 2012 Rio will most likely be my next vehicle purchase. A small, goodlooking car that's great on gas, comfortable and has a lot of available upscale features is exactly what I'm looking for.
@DJB732 I'm really liking this new Rio as well, or at least what I've seen of it, however, my nagging concern is the suspect safety of small cars. No matter the number of air bags, or TCS, etc., its light weight and small dimensions are still a liability in collisions, especially with these ghastly SUV's still haunting our roads and highways. So, my question to you is- How come you're not worried?...or are you? Thanks.
The Rio also has an optional "Idle Start Stop" feature which shuts down its engine during stops and immediately starts back again once you lift the brakes. This saves gas while you are idling at the stop light.
Therefore, you might actually see HIGHER MPG on the city with this new feature.
Its the only car in its segment to offer this technology.
These cars including the Hyundai will outsell Honda and Toyota. Six speed transmissions and good looks in a small car? Its what we wanted to a long time, and no one listened until now.
@howhigh42090 That's something I have noticed as well; however, it's much harder to design the front of a subcompact than a midsize sedan because of the subcompact's dimensions and highly sloping hood (if that makes any sense)
@yummy1234098 I think you are in the small... very small minority. The hatch is beautiful but the sedan isn't chop liver either. It's crazy how the new redesigned Focus was kind of gaining traction then Kia drops a bomb and releases this. Hopefully it will remain about the same price point as their current iterations making the more cost-conscious alternative to sporty hatches. Golfs/GTIs are priced out of my budget but luckily I don't have to make a compromise in the Kia. Kia, thank you!
@yummy1234098 I also prefer the look of the sedan, but I wouldn't say it looks 20x better. Most people seem to prefer the look of the hatch. Either way, I think both versions look great. Certainly much better looking than anything the competition has to offer.

So, what exactly does the Eco button do? i.e., does it just remap the throttle and shift points? Lean burn? Rev limiter? what?
