He also played at the Rivoli, in Toronto, it makes me feel sad that Elliott walked into Toronto feeling the same way I feel as I walk Toronto everyday, sometimes Toronto is very depressing, I wish I was born at least 20 years earlier so I could experience Elliott in real life at a concert..Elliott has truly helped me through rough times, and I thank him, there is no Figure 8 wall of Elliott Smith where I am, but if I'd visit it everyday...For Elliott.
@dfins109 The mastering on Basement is pretty loud, so it sounds all distorted, same with Figure 8, by the time "Can't Make A Sound" is over, you hear this ringing in your ears, maybe that's what she meant.
it is actually really interesting that he took a song so obviously written on piano and redid it with guitar. more proof of his mastery. pretty much everyone else (including me) would be like "where's the piano? I wrote this on piano."
i was at this show. it was at the opera house in '99, not lee's palace '98. have you got any more? he played harvest moon that night, have you got that?
the song can be whatever he feels like. he wrote it he could have made it into a hip-hop anthem although he would never do that but you know what i mean. Elliott is brilliant.
Yes, he is brilliant and can be whatever he feels like. I just think this song is supposed to be more subtle and calm, the way he plays it on piano is my favourite.
Here he just used what he had at the moment, the guitar. Its okay but not as moody as usual.
@sucramnormark yep, i feel the same. :( sounds too nirvanish like this, the piano version is the best. this is good anyway but i wish i could listen to the piano thing.
I was only one when he played this concert.
