I think the problem was you didn't block enough. Use what you have. Don't try to hard either, you will just get stressed and lose it all. If you were pressing the buttons a bit slow, just memorize the combo's and press combo buttons rapidly. I never played that game before, but other fighting games such as street fighter and mortal combat, the combos help :)
