my black lab is ten, and he plays in the snow all the time, i swear he is covered in it when he comes back in. lucky for us we went to the vet and he said he easly has 4-5 years left. great dog.

How does a full-grown black lab handle more extreme cold & snow? Like -15 degrees Celsius? They dont have too much fur unlike their golden lab cousins rite?

-15 wouldn't be a problem at all. They don't have long fur, but it's dense and very waterproof. It get's down to -40 Celsius where I'm from and lots of people here own labs. Just make sure your dog has a good insulated house.

I am looking to get a new dog. I have a golden retriever right now. Does anyone know how the goldens and labs compare. I heard the labs are more hyper, is that true for all of them?

I don't know about Goldens but Labs are pretty rambunctious until they are about 2. It's not a bad thing though in my opinion. My guy Wess just really active and runs a lot during the day and never misses an opportunity to do what we've affectionately dubbed the "Wessie wiggle" in which his whole butt shakes violently from his tail wag. It's mostly cute hyperness. I wouldn't leave them alone in the house uncaged until they're 2 or very calm though.

Well my black lab LOVED to play when he was a puppy and the only thing he liked more was cuddling with me. But my suggestion is get a mix, or if you get 2 almost always as long as they meet each other a lab and brittney spaniel are great.

I wonder if a lab's love of water has anything to do with a lot of labs loving the snow? My girlfriend's lab LOVES the snow, its his favorite time of year, cuz he gets to go outside and play in the fluffy stuff.

my puppy, Raven, is a black lab, and she has this little tuft of hair at the end of her tail that swirls and we're not gonna cut it off because she's always playing with her cousin Raven, who is also a black lab, and we need to tell them apart because that Raven is only one month younger than other Raven... love ur pup by the way!

that little tuft of hair is called a "twizzle" Ernie had one too! You shouldn't cut it b/c it not every pup has them so it makes them extra special :)

I didnt know that the swirly hair at the end of my puppy's tail had a name. (He is a 5 month old black lab, named Cooper) I just thought it was ANOTHER super cute thing about him. :)

gorgeous pup! When he gets older you can bury stuff (tennis balls work great!) in the snow for him and let him dig. My dog loves that... and it teaches her she can only dig when I say so!
