  • You might want to check further before changing credits for this song, Dan. I find one resource crediting Bishop and Jenkins for "Blue Prelude". Another- same source - credits Hoagy Charmichael for "I've Got A Right to Sing the Blues",1932.

ANOTHER SOURCE, referencing the Texaco Star Theater, 12/10/38, credits Harold Arlen and Ted Koehler for "I've Got A Right to Sing the Blues", written in 1932 for Earl Carroll's Varieties.

    Some confusion, here?

Best regards, thanks for all you do!

  • The arrangement references "I've Got A Right To Sing The Blues", but the song is "Blue Prelude" - music by Joe Bishop and lyrics by Gordon Jenkins. Great renditions on YouTube from Isham Jones to Nina Simone.

  • Hi, fromthesidelines.

I think I was getting ready for birth, in fact, at the time you mention; but have found this now, and love to hear it - again and again!

  • This is from the 1938 edition of CBS' "TEXACO STAR THEATER" {Adolphe Menjou, emcee}, when Jane was a guest on the program. Curiously, Fred Allen's "TOWN HALL TONIGHT" appeared opposite this on NBC. Which did YOU listen to?

    ;)

  • This Froman rendition persists - for me - as a magnificent, unforgettable, musical masterpiece!!!! Again, many thanks!

  • An additional commment: This brilliant, poignant interpretation by Froman came years before events in her life affirmed the legitimacy of her claim :"I Gotta Right......"

    Thank you, again, for this!

  • Just magnificent!!!!! After all these years I continue to treasure the voice of Jane Froman, and the wonderful songs she chose to sing for us. THANK YOU, once again. I hope you will continue to share your remarkable collection - with folks like me who failed to anticipate how rare these recordings would become!
