  • I really want to start exercising race horses or just helping out any way possible! Since I was 5 years old its been my dream to race I'm 18 now and it seems impossible. But atleast exercising is a piece of it. I live in western new york and I don't know where to go to ask. I know the race track would just laugh and turn me away.

  • Hi bro,I'm from Singapore.I'm going to race soon,as I almost completed my barrier trial.my rein always get loose easily when I go for my trial. try to pick it up again n still get loose.is there any way I can maintain my rein ??and I really have difficulty in changing rein n whip.plz help me.and how can I maintain my balance as I'm abit tall.(app s.alif).do u provide training horse to Singapore??tot of buying 1,but not so soon as I'm still saving...cheers

  • @Aufiansyah Hello, the problem is likely you are over riding, trying to hard. Try to slow down your riding. Stay with the horse. It will feel like you are not doing enough at first but you will look better and in better rhythm with your horse. It happens to all of us that try to hard and over ride, we get ahead of the horse and hard to keep our reins tight. Slow down, get your butt to the back of the saddle. You will stay better balanced and the rest of your skills will improve. -Frankie

  • @msjumpingqueenful Valets saddle the horses with the trainers. The Saddles belong to the jockeys who are hired ride that horse. After the race, the valets help remove the saddles with the jockey, the valet takes the saddle back to the jockey room. Jockeys will no definitely what horses they are riding minimum of 2 days before the race, sometimes will know and be obligated to ride a horse for a race weeks in advance.

  • @msjumpingqueenful For racing, jockeys are responsable for their own saddles and girths. Racing saddles use 2 girths, under and over girth.

  • Great comment below about breaking from the gate. I have always wondered about that... how to maintain your balance on that sudden burst of speed. I love your videos! They are very helpful because it seems as though being able to ride thoroughbreds correctly is some sort of secret to those who want to learn - not many people want to take the time to teach it. I am trying to soak in all the horse racing tips that I can before I apply to the NARA in two years :) So, thank you!!

  • @iFlip2012 You are very welcome and thank you for your kind comments, glad my videos are helpful to you!

  • I have been riding my whole life and I'm now 15. I want to be an exercise jockey ( i weigh under 85lbs). How do I come about becoming one? My freind's grandpa races horses, and I MIGHT be able to ask him if I could work his horses, but how do I get started? Do I take lessons or just do it? Haha, sorry for my raceing ingorance....

  • @herewefly I will reply more later to help you :) Frankie

  • @roamingcandle I will try and help you learn more :)

  • Quick Q: When you break from the gate, what is the best position to use, and when you do break, how can you be sure you don't drop the whip?

  • @pencilcasegameboy When breaking from the gates, best to sit up, left foot on the girth, the right slighly behind, great lock of mane in one or both hands, slack in the reins but not too much that you can correct your horse.. when the gates come open, lean into the force. Let go of the mane once you have your balance and gather your reins and have control of your horse. As far as the whip, lots of practice riding and using your reins so you do not drop your whip. Cheers! Frankie

  • thanks for your videos,it is very helpful for us

  • @MegaKillerwhales You are very welcome!! Thank you for your support!

  • Hi, do u sell those machines, as it would be a good way to get my balance. Thanks

  • I'd love to have one of those! It would really help me get back in shape for riding.

  • this is a great video...I have an ex race horse and we have been playing around with him and my sister has been galloping him and he loves it..... but I know he can go faster and was wondering what is the cue in racing to go faster? we would love to see him go all out!!! haha well thanks for the good video!

  • @hannahalexismommy thanks for liking the video! Usually race horses are more then willing to go faster but there are some that are lazy. Generally if you want them to go faster, you can smootch and chirp to them, you can push on their neck to drive them forward, if you are riding long in the stirrups use your legs.. no secrets, that's about it.. if using a crop, be careful! Do not get dropped!

  • @hannahalexismommy UHHH.. first of al be very carefull race horses can go extremely fast, I would practice your emergency stops first, there are 3.. and then ride like this guy, and just send him (With your arms and hands) if u want even faster u could show the whip a couple times (flick it next to his face slightly) or a shoulder tap if hes being lazy.. be carefull.. good luck

  • it's not called a "cross" or an "x" its called a bridge, double bridge or single bridge; still liked the vid though :)

  • @liverpool5917 lol.. we call it a "cross" in racing.. I said "x" so people could visualize better, but yes!! It's a bridge! You are right! :)

  • @Equicizer nope called a bridge in racing well in england i'm a jockey so i should know really :), like i say in england :)

  • @liverpool5917 Oh cool, well I did not know you all there did not call it a cross as well. Anyway, hope you liked the video, I whipped it up and wished I used the word bridge after I taped it lol. I say it all the time when ever I am teaching, just did not come out of my mouth for this video lol. I made a whole DVD just released now called "What It Takes To Be A Jockey" to help people get started in every aspect of the business. I know things will be different depending the country.

  • @Equicizer Was a good video, just watched it to see how to teach, i have to terach apprentices, most annoying, by the way i was just wondering is there steeplechasing in america???????????, never seen it on like the racing tv in america thats all :), i know they do in australia raced there once but never in the usa :)

  • This video had good information about how jockeys ride in races. My horse is a ex racer and its always nice to learn more about his life before i got him! Thanks!

  • @TheOTTBAntioch Thank you! It's good to know that my videos are helpful! Have a great day! Frankie

  • how much do they cost? reply back please because i really want 1

  • You are so VERY welcome Jockey Dreamer! :) Frankie

  • 1:45 I had always wondered how the Jockeys held the reins- like when they go to use the whip and then have the other hand on the reins. Great video Frankie!!

  • Mr. Lovato,

Although the equipony was designed for 2-10 year olds, could it be used for practicing racing techniques?

thank you for these great educational videos

    -Colleen

  • HI Collen!

Thank you for your kind words! :) o answer your question, the Equipony is tiny. Like riding a mini so riding like a race horse is tough. Always feel free to ask me more questions though! :)

    Frankie

  • Thank you so much Mr. Lovato! I never realized you were the creater of the Equicizer...a genius idea.

My name's Kayla and I'm 14. When I'm 17 I'll be going to the North American Racing Academy - a college in Lexington, Kentucky - to become a professional jockey. I'm so determined and focused, I can't wait to get out there and give it my all!

Again, thanks for the wonderful and instructive video. By watching it, I learned some things I hadn't know before, like how jockeys hold the reins.
