Apparently they filmed this scene without any of the dialogue, that was added later. The two actors had no idea what one was 'saying' to the other during filming, they just had to move as directed and then the scene was filmed. It wasn't until ages later that the actor inside the Darth Vader outfit realised that Vader had told Luke that he was his son. I saw the Darth Vader actor (Jeff Prowse?) say so in an interview on TV some years ago.
