First choice, back in. But had I gotten nosed in that far, after clearing the steel structure, I would have steered hard right toward the black pickup truck. That would have lined the trailer up straight with the tractor or maybe even gotten it angled a little in the opposite direction, Then when he backed up, he wouldn't have retraced his path and would have been able to get the trailer going some what in the intended direction.
LOL you can tell the seasoned drivers from the rookies in here.....yes he got it done without damage but there ARE better ways to get the same thing done.....ive been driving in the oil and water well fields for years and only did things like that for the first year or two, after that you learn better ways to get it done.
Little tighter jack knife then id be comfortable with . Be thats a part of being a truck driver u deal with whats givin to u and he did respectable job.
haha, anyone who thinks that this is "good truck driving" has never driven a truck or sucks at doing so. When the video pans out so you can see the whole area, there were several other options he could have used with the same end result....but without looking like such an D-bag.
@JazzyGin i agree there were several options to consider other than jack knifing it that far.. lets see he coulda ripped the gladhands apart then be stuck there. or just go a little to far and KO the side of the truck with the trailer.. a good driver coulda done this trick in about 10 stop and go's. no need for this 437 point turn around..looked similar to a monkey fucking a football
how could somebody say that was sad obviously uve never had to do this before its a real pain in the ass. oil patch truckin is deffenatly the hardest truckin out there always havin to deal with muddy tight leases you cant turn around in or ice and tire chains
@monkeymuddman I've been driving Tractor trailer for the better part of 25 years. Long haul, local, steel coils over 60,000#, doubles (B-trains) with almost 100,000#! Wide loads up to 17 feet wide. Tree length pine (70 +ft.) in the winter, in Northern Ontario. I've delivered Million dollar machinery to job sites. I'll say it again...This is sad!
The key to that move is the wheel base on the truck longer the length the easier it is and the further the fifth wheel is to the back the better, and I do that at least once a day in a very tight paved yard with a 04 volvo 760 big shack I just watch the sleeper skirts, i've never had an issue or a dent. I am glad i don't pay for the trailer tires though.
i understand that. i have been in the truck while trucks are backing and on most locations here if you cant get it the first shot you get ran off because you have to be fast. not saying i could do better now but i know people that can do this faster and better than this driver.
i could have done that .but i couldn't have done it any better..you rookies take note that all this manouvering was done to the drivers side and not the blind side
1st: nutt'n like a small location. 2nd: nutt'n like MUD. 3rd: can he do that when the workover rig is on location and the guide wires hang'n all over the place and the reverse unit sittin the way with the pump truck and the rig hands pickup trucks sittin all over the place can't forget the flow tank and probadly a couple of frac tanks sittin on location with the sand wagon also??? but that was sum damn good drivin that I do have to amit!
yeah he backed it up an over to make the corner with the outhouse whcih has to be one of the worst spots to locte on on a tight corner.I've seen drivers that wouldnt have even got it turned part way around.
that does look like one hell of a location to get in and out of, and i'd say he is doing pretty damn good, he ain't lost any of his load yet, truck is still in one piece, he ain't killed anyone, except maybe the guy who set the location up.
definatley not bad u wanna see some of that in real life watch a walmart truck driver turn around and back into a bay not as drastic of a turn but they do it with sleeper trucks and 53' inclosed great dane trailers
That driver knows what the fuck is going on. Stand back, shut-up and watch and learn. RoyalHighlander is right though. its is lucky he didnt pull off the glad-hands, but that is some damn good driving right there.
Did the same thing last week, was a had to no choice deal and it works well as long as you got room behind you when the trailer starts to go backwards to straighten up . Cool Video :) Cheers Rick

Yes, it is possible for the front tractor axles to go forward while the trailer axles go backward!

I was thinking that first, too. But there are always two points of view - one from outside and one from inside the truck. Huge difference ;)
