@miamiorlando1 Well we will have to agree to disagree. I think Jean Carne is one of the most underrated female sings of all time. The tone and range in her voice makes her truly unique. Lulu can sing and she has a voice but in my view she has nothing on Jean.
I thought it was Chante Moore until I saw the music video on BET - I was like "is that the woman who recorded "To Sir, With Love" with Bobby Womack? That could have Lulu's major hit
@neofunkyman1 Unfortunately, the Al Johnson & Jean Carn version wasn't the original version either! (Though I'm a BIG fan, as I am of Bobby W) - The original was actually by Leo's Sunshipp in 1978.
To my mind, Lulu has been a complete fucking waste of space ever since her lousy murdering of "Shout!" * (apart from maybe "To Sir With Love"). Faux Soul.
"listen let me tell you my story....." oh, I love this song!!!! Does anyone know where I can find the video to this....I'm sure I remember seeing it way back when on BET....thanks so much for posting
I ran across this tune by accident and I didn"t know that this lady was white! Now I can"t get enough of this song or her voice! And to hold her own with a "Soul Pro" like Womack! Speaks volumes for her talent! She now has a new fan!
I am unsure if she did anything else that was similar in style to this? Not noted for soul genre but this is a good try. I am a very big Jean Carne fan which is how I came to find this. Check out the original, personally there are very few singers that compare to her. Erikah Badu, Jill Scott, Anita Baker but not too many more.
@iLLestBeats02 i have white skin and have been listening to music for over 40 years i would say most of the great singers of all time are black..........peace be with you
This isn't an unlikely pairing at all. Lulu recorded two albums for Atlantic/Atco - one in Muscle Shoals, one in Miami Sound Studios with backing from The Dixie Flyers, The Memphis Horns, The Sweet Inspirations, Duane Allman etc.
I suppose it depends what your definition of 'unlikely pairing is'. Historically from the dierection they came from, for me it certainly is. However, I do know what she is a big fan of RnB and obviously made efforts to go in that direction later in her career.
If you are serious, she is a UK singer famed in the 60's for 'Shout'. Not reknowed for her soul singing but she has been know to like this genre. I think she enjoyed herself!
I think it's as good as Al and Jean's version neofunkyman.

@neofunkyman1 Shout was an Isleys song so what's the surprise?
deristrong1 1 year ago
@deristrong1 She never did RnB - just 'Pop' type stuff to the masses so this was a welcomed departure... it didn't last though! LOL

@blacconnosuir who cares if shes Caucasian or not? If she sings well, she sings well, no matter skin type.
