There's the video of American soldiers throwing a puppy off of a cliff but then there's another video of an American soldier risking his life and running out into enemy fire to save a small kid. Similarly, there's a clip I've seen where some Brit troops were gonna get airlifted out of a dangerous area but they stayed behind and let a little girl who had been shot get taken to safety with her dad and brother.
Take it as you will, but IMO the Canadian Forces are the most professional army in the world (IM NOT BASHING ANYONE). Getting in to the army from what I have heard and read is a difficult task on it's own. When most country's go to war they calculate maximum casualties they can sustain. When Canada goes to war, the tolerance for casualties is 0. This was born out of necessity as our army is not the largest. This results in more training to make up for lack of #. Losing 1 soldier is losing a lot.

@wtfgoes231 Erm considering the Canadians use roughly the same style training as the British and that you were until I believe 1981 one of our colonies then you cannot say you are better or even equally trained as we trained you and we still train you, but all in all I have the highest respect for Canada and its armed forces, but I believe no countries armed forces come close to the British in terms of training, proffesionalism and success.
Every one think there forces are best. Dont get offended now, but Spetnaz are good, really good. But they are brutes, they will never win over the population of a country. Usa they have really good guys as well, but they are arrogant and mislead. (not all of them of course, same to spetnaz)
But the SAS with there motto "Hearts and minds" speak for them self. No Force in the world have been more effective in turning populations to there side then them.

The best and great Army in the world is Pakistan Army, which proved in first gulf war, and has proved in Exercise with british in kent.and the best Commondos in the world Are PAK SSG.

I will not get into a pissing contest about 'isn't the SASR better?' or 'What about the JTF2'. @BINBAGish Most of the British Empire was founded on places that were populated thinly and often by people with ZERO technology, such as Australia and Canada. IndiA was different, granted but it is the way in which the British Empire disolved that says more of modern Britain than its glory days. History doesn't favour Britain if you look at the last century. Not that the British lacked the will but they were outshone in many ways by their dominion states in many theatres of operation.

@WarriorCrimson Meh, well if you are trying to tell me that you think Australian training is better than the UK, you've never served in the ADF. The ADF is so heavily constrained, especially by COMCARE and SRP that it is very difficult to deliver good training value. Other nations, the UK included, are able to deliver better training value than we can due to less regulation. I have plenty of faith in the soldiers the ADF, but I also know how training standards differ between us.

Also, after watching a RM take a bullet in the butt and watching an entire British unit hole themselves up in a house for 7 hours whilst under attack i'd say there are some whopping great holes in what you claim to be great British Training. Not saying that the British aren't well trained just that when it comes to infantry warfare inparticular they don't have the runs on the board.

The Gulf War was nothing special and the Falklands Campaign would have been a failure had not the SAS done most of the heavy lifting. Want to talk about how the British left Southern Iraq? The Falklands War wasn't won by the SAS alone you mug. The Falklands Campaign was extraordinary, we dispelled invaders 8,000 miles away. On land we completely dominated, on the seas too. I just wrote a 10,000 word essay on how close the UK were to losing the Falklands war, turns out we practically dominated it, only trouble the Argentines caused us was in the skies.

@scarff94 We sent 60,000 to Vietnam, the war Britian refused to fight. In just 3 months in Vietnam the average infantryman would see more combat than that same infantryman would have in WW II. Vietnam was equal in deployment size to both Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom combined for the US Military, so it is the British who've done naff all compared to either Australia or the US of A. The most significant battle of the Falklands was Goose Green and mostly SAS.
May I remind you, when you say the British have done 'naff all' compared to USA and the Aussies, that in WW1 and 2 they helped Europe against the germans + their supporters longer than the Americans (have nothing against the americans). And the Americans were hardly in WW1. The Brits could have easily sat back .The Brits also could have sat back and have there navy protect them. America only helped because they were attacked. But I do respect their sacrifices during them.

You should look into how a little role the UK played during the Kosovo War and why...

@xXRibbzXx The Scots do have a proud history, although i have to say, the Romans did move well past Hadrian's Wall into the midlands although without settling as they did to much of England. The Scots however were successfuly not conquered but settled by the Vikings a few hundred years later, the Vikings liked the place and the people and inter-marriages were quite common, it also lead to the rise of the Kelts over the Picts by the way.

I can tell you this: The common US Marine (im not a yank) has all of this and more - which is more than 99% of the worlds SF; and Marines aren't even SF. Its not just about the selection process or the soldiers.

Every one think there forces are best. Dont get offended now, but Spetnaz are good, really good. But they are brutes, they will never win over the population of a country. Usa they have really good guys as well, but they are arrogant and mislead. (not all of them of course, same to spetnaz)
But the SAS with there motto "Hearts and minds" speak for them self. No Force in the world have been more effective in turning populations to there side then them.
But for real Swedes are the best ;)

@BINBAGish Most of the British Empire was founded on places that were populated thinly and often by people with ZERO technology, such as Australia and Canada. IndiA was different, granted but it is the way in which the British Empire disolved that says more of modern Britain than its glory days. History doesn't favour Britain if you look at the last century. Not that the British lacked the will but they were outshone in many ways by their dominion states in many theatres of operation.

@WarriorCrimson Meh, well if you are trying to tell me that you think Australian training is better than the UK, you've never served in the ADF. The ADF is so heavily constrained, especially by COMCARE and SRP that it is very difficult to deliver good training value. Other nations, the UK included, are able to deliver better training value than we can due to less regulation. I have plenty of faith in the soldiers the ADF, but I also know how training standards differ between us.

The Gulf War was nothing special and the Falklands Campaign would have been a failure had not the SAS done most of the heavy lifting. Want to talk about how the British left Southern Iraq? In Afghanistan the storey gets better but still the USMC had to pick up the slack. I am not American by the way but they've been doing a better job than you lot lately

The Falklands War wasn't won by the SAS alone you mug. The Falklands Campaign was extraordinary, we dispelled invaders 8,000 miles away. On land we completely dominated, on the seas too. I just wrote a 10,000 word essay on how close the UK were to losing the Falklands war, turns out we practically dominated it, only trouble the Argentines caused us was in the skies.

@scarff94 We sent 60,000 to Vietnam, the war Britian refused to fight. In just 3 months in Vietnam the average infantryman would see more combat than that same infantryman would have in WW II. Vietnam was equal in deployment size to both Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom combined for the US Military, so it is the British who've done naff all compared to either Australia or the US of A. The most significant battle of the Falklands was Goose Green and mostly SAS.

It was still smaller than Talisman Sabre and Britain today couldn't repeat the deployment. The Scots however were successfuly not conquered but settled by the Vikings a few hundred years later, the Vikings liked the place and the people and inter-marriages were quite common, it also lead to the rise of the Kelts over the Picts by the way.

As for Sangin and Helmand, since 2006 when the British went into the most dangerous province in afghan, 3000 British infantryman had the task of holding an Area the size of wales. It was always inevitable that a much larger force would come in and takeover.

I can tell you this: The common US Marine (im not a yank) has all of this and more - which is more than 99% of the worlds SF; and Marines aren't even SF. Its not just about the selection process or the soldiers.

The british army may not be the biggest but it is the best trained in the world. American has the biggest, just because it's big doesn't mean they have alot of skill. A skilled army can beat a big army. Anyday. :) A fellow brit civil.
