I love how Perry Farrell sings the song, but the rythm section is lacking terribly - the thumping bass line and the whoo-whoo's are essential. Without them ,it just ain't sympathy for the devil.

Take a look at all the other covers of this song on youtube and you'd have to admit that this is the best cover, wouldn't you? I bet the Rolling Stones would agree.

The Jagger vs. Farrell issue isn't the point, the cover is good it's because Jane's Addiction has an excellent band, one of the best of their decade, and that's what it takes to keep up with the Rolling Stones, one of the greatest rock & roll outfits ever assembled - the real survivors.

I like what they've contributed to the industry, but i would never put on a Rolling Stones record", he goes on "We ended up singing "Sympathy for the devil" as a joke. I can't believe that one of my least favourite bands is on my first record".

I have never felt a stones influence in Janes music thank god, to me Janes are "The greatest rock n roll band in the world" not that stagnant corporate institution called the Rolling stones. As hammer91568 said below, Janes were trying to show how better the song could have been, hardly a compliment to the stones i would say .

You seem to think because the rolling bones are an institution going on and on ad nauseum, and because they make big dosh that means something, it does'nt. They may have been important once but no more, they rest on their laurels. That fake Jagger happily excepts a knighthood from royalty, how lame is that.
