I am really interested with the Sony XR 550 camcorder. But i also like HDSlr camera (Canon 550 D) for its video capability. Mostly I am concerned with Video shooting.
Do you think HDslr cameras have advantage over XR 550) .
Do you think the video from XR 550 is better than canon 550 D or vice versa?
I like to shoot short films and functions (like party or wedding) ..So what is your opinion on both cameras?
@princefrq Hey, thanks.HDSLR cameras will not yet fully replace an HD Camcorder but depends on the user if they like to take a picture or a video once in a while. To me the HDR-XR550V is the top of its class with 1080i video, image stabilization, GPS to GEO tag your location, wide angle for those big events, also image stabilization, when your on the go helps a lot. Canon 550 D is a good SLR but it lags some key features that a camcorder needs in order to make a good video.I recommend HDR-XR550V
@Airborn14 i am a 14 year old beginner and i ask you. Should i get the nikon coolpix d3100 for 1080p vid? Or this camera. I just want this for special effects and family staff. Oh and btw is it ok for the hard disk to run while recording?
really need help. i got this camcorder last christmas and have never found a solution to my problem. I love this cameras quality but my biggest issue is getting the video uploaded into youtube. it puts black bars around the picture and i can not get it uploaded in full screen like this.i have called sony to no help and i can not find out how to fix this. I just really want to be able to use my camera to its full extent.
I just wanna point out this is the video that comes on the camera, it's not really a review, just a demo to show some of the camera's features (made by Sony).
@persini With 5.1 surround sound, which is pretty impressive. Even cameras that sell for 5-10k+ usually have a crappy mono mic or stereo at best. I was very surprised as well but it works great and you have mic input as well if you want to connect a different kind of mic to it.
1080i and 1080p are both High Definition display formats for HDTVs. 1080i and 1080p signals actually contain the same information. Both 1080i and 1080p represent a 1920x1080 pixel resolution (1,920 pixels across the screen by 1,080 pixels down the screen). The difference between 1080i and 1080p is in the way the signal is sent from a source component or displayed on an HDTV screen. To answer your question it records in 1080i. Thanks for asking.
Yes, Sony has all the bases covered: the camcorder is Mac-friendly,... and iMovie '08 and Final Cut Pro will recognize the camcorder and allow you to choose the clips you if you have it.
Oh yeah I did. I do like it especially for the Optical SteadyShot Active technology (2:15) which helps a lot when walking or running. Also the GPS (3:33) which helps you tag your videos.
Just bought my at Bestbuy on December 26 for $1,199 two days later, the price drop for after Christmas sales at $999, able to get $200 refund back. Loving it.
I just bought mine for 1199.99 I love it ALOT!!!! It's amazing the picture is ridiculously good and the Slow Mo Effect is awesome to I wish it was able to record longer but it's great still. And the Infrared is Excellent! I love this cam!
Amazing Camera! Amazing footage...Sony should give you a job..P.S where on earth did you go for that train & Mountain shot?? (Maybe the cam's GPS may help you remember lol)...Best regards
Absolutely brilliant presentation on this awesome camcorder. I was still deciding whether to buy one or not but this video sold it for me. Will get one this week.
