  • wow, you're one of those people that HAS to have a radio blasting away every where they go.

I bet you're in the building(construction) trade right?

  • the same heat deflector you used on the fire box is done easier and more effectively with a .75 cent peice of ceramic tile just leaned against it. It also helps to lay 3 square feet along the bottom of the cook box, and cut three in half to line the sides. about $5.50 including tax.

  • I liked the mods you did. I might suggest getting a brick or two and wrap 'em in tin foil to put under your small grill that the charcoal rest on. I've found that raises your charcoal just the right amount to go into the main chamber and keeps air fueling the charcoal so it won't smother itself. Too, I like to line the bottom of the smoker and the firebox with a heavy-duty foil and that goes a long way to being easier to clean-up things (meat drippings, etc.) Just some thoughts......

  • That smoker is a piece of sh!t I just gave mine away Its way to thin leaks way to bad Save up or find an old thick steal smoker

  • your cookie sheet idea is pretty stupid looking also, take that shit out, put a loaf pan full of water on the grate, so that the heat that tends to want to go straight up, once out of the firebox, is forced to distribute more evenly... Also, moving the smoke stack to the bottom, will ruin the air flow, it will be so low that cold air will be sucking in, not hot air natural escaping, heat rises thus escaping, thus sucking oxygen into the fire box... thus creating a clean burning fire.

  • why the hell would you use a chimney starter and lighter fluid? throw that shit away and use 3 pieces of newspaper, rolled up, then made into rings, put them in the bottom of the chimney starter, light that shit and your good... you don't use lighter fluid, EVER! lol

  • radio fail

  • The cookie sheet only keeps heat an extra fe inches before it goes upward. Try to bend a metal the length of the smoker with either a decent gap around the edes or drill one inch holes every couple inches. I flipped my catch pan upside down to achieve this, the made a custom heat shield later. You can keep the temp within 10-15 degrees on left and right gaues this way. Right now yours reads about 40-50 degrees different , right?

  • Nice motorcycle, do you get much riding in?

  • Playing Planet Caravan while doing the video! AWESOME

  • Great video about system of a down

  • where did you get the diamond grate?

  • good idea however you might have overlooked the dissimilar metal contact which will cause intergranular corrosion and see exfoliation of the metal. I would have just used steel strap metal vs the aluminum and paint it with high temp paint. Not knocking you just informing you to keep eye on it.

  • cool video. too bad i couldnt hear most of it.

  • I think I need to make a video!! DIY smoker using a hot water heater. Simple simple!!

  • How did you count those yard sticks? Drilled holes and put screws? Or some kind of adhesive? And btw out of all the vids on how to upgrade your smoker this one is by far the most helpful!!

  • Redo without the radio in the background.

  • Very nice mods! Why cant they make the smoker the right way to begin with. lol

  • turn your music off its distracting

  • Thanks for allowing the embed code. I embedded in my post about offset smokers at MeatFireGood[dot]com. Your modifications show what it takes to make one of these into a more useful smoker. It would be nice if manufacturers stepped it up so modifications wouldn't be as necessary. Still, I like my char-griller with some mods.

  • Great video. I like this guys spirit. This is what YouTube is all about. I barbeque and I have some videos on my channel on this same subject . I have a Chargriller offset smoker that I modified. Check it out. Thanks for the great video.

  • radio is too loud cany hear you talking

  • Awesome job I have the same smoker & I'm gonna do the same things thanks for the tips What did you do to keep the thermometers from moving around?

  • good job man, im so gealous of your grill. enjoy it.

  • sweet! did u cut the pointy needles off the thermometers u added? they still work good?

  • LOL nice, you must live here in Phoenix area, heard Fitz on KUPD there. Anyway nice vid about the mods you did, but yeah keep the radio down a tad next time so easier to hear you. Thanks man!

  • Good work, i have been wanting to build one out of a drum for a while, I saw the charbroil at walmart but decided against it for the reasons you pointed out here, those were some nice easy mods you made. So what part of Arizona are ya in, I heard KUPD and smiled

  • Thx for the idea for the containment basket I just made one after watching this vid..I also got some fireplace sealent(cement) took the firepot apart and sealed up the 2 halves no more leaks on the firepot(I hope lol)

  • where did you get the thermometers and how did you install them?

For the aluminum rulers you attached, did you pre-drill the holes in the grill or the aluminum rulers you attached?

Qhat did you cut the cookie sheet with and at what length? Why cut the cookie sheet in an arc or semi-circle instead of a rectangle?

  • hey how you doing, I bought the same grill for 4th of July and have the same problem with smoke dissipating out. The aluminum ruler idea is very smart!!.. my question is, beside the drilling the holes to mantle to the grill; do you have to do any other mods to the ruler? Thanks!! take care.

  • Next time turn off radio so we can hear you!!

  • Good work brotherman!

  • i'm sure they told you to "TURN OFF THE FREAKIN RADIO!!!!"

  • Hey mate , did you manage to post a video on how to install your mist cooling system ?

Im still searching youtube and cant find a decsent video . You going to get thousands of hits cause you will be the only one who actually explains how to . All the videos out there are sh*t . Thanks bud

  • Good informative video, But Turn fucking the RadiO OFF, sounds bad

  • take out your wife with the trash biotch boy.... hahahahaha u have a very cheap smoker.. buy a real smokernigger ...lol

  • @blastergrillmaster dude idk what your refering to a cheap smoker....yes it cost 200 bucks, but ive put out some of the best pork, chicken, and ribs that will make you cream your pants...if this smoker came with mods complete when manufactured, this smoker would cost 350-400 easy...so go on with your 15 year old ass and try to sound big somewhere else

  • To much back ground noise, had problems listening... Shut the fan and the radio off...

  • haha THE RADIO SOUNDS LIKE WTOS like where i live

  • Updates are coming soon; I want to take out the trash just so I can walk by and smell the goodness this smoker has produced as I pass by. I smell it and get hungry, I can describe the smell and it will make you hungry. Open my fridge and you will have found heaven, for your olfactory senses at the very least. Please keep the comments coming. I know the music is loud. Pick something else to say

  • good job! I have the exact type of smoker, and dont worry about the radio, hell i just wished i could have heard the song better than what i did, although i think your rocks need mowed j/k enjoy your smoker, going to modify mine now. thanks again

  • @jrdanks You are right about the rocks. But I had to mow the excess ash from the smoker due to dumping it so close to the fire box. One mod not shown is the ash scoop I made to fit in the bottom of the fire box. long slow burns still need air flow so the ash has to be discarded at some point to maintain the heat. Problem is it makes cement if not dealt with early. Maybe I'll get a bucket for it. What song did I cut out?

  • @OvertheArcOutfitters If you build your fire closer to the damper the wind will blow the ashes further away. Then again I don't use any charcoal at all. I use a NewBraunfels and can smoke with wood 12 hours straight no ash dump. My problem is the smoker getting to hot near the firebox did the baffle work and did it help with temp controll? Would making a baffle and the smoke going under a cookie sheet with a water bowl on top cool it down?

  • hey mate , nice job on improving your smoker . when your video clip start showing where your outside it looks and sounds like you have compressed water steaming out of pipes at your verander to keep you cool outside , im i right ??? if so can you please post a video on how you achieved that cause ive only seen it a few time and cant work it out . thanks

  • admd2143 They were just misters I bought at Home Depot. PVC T fittings that hold small brass fittings with pin holes (for the small T part). I got some 1/2 inch pvc to create spacing and a down spout to hook to my garden hose. It was 112 degrees out that day.

  • @admd2143 You may have seen in the video the loud fan also had a flexible mister system hooked to it (not on at the time) that does the same thing. Total cost for the two about $40 bucks (includes paint to hide/match the PVC to the house). Still want a picture or video? Let me know.

  • I think you had some good ideas. Unfortunately you filmed the entire thing with an annoying radio blaring in the background. Turn the freakin' thing off next time,

  • yardstick idea ...very good cant beat good old common sense

  • Nice Vid, Wish i could hear what you were doing. Sounds like you live near the ocean by an airport next to a rail yard.

  • nice one dude! when are the ribs goin on there?

  • "TURN THE RADIO OFF"

  • yuo got horse cents

  • Your ideas are great...the radio sucks!

  • I like the planet caravan playing in the background!

  • 98 kPUD! i hate that station!

he has a chimney and fluid!

  • Hey I have the same smoker did you fire box rust out on you? Did Brinkman fix this problem for ya? check out my video.

  • Made a prime rib on the smoker today. 2.5 hours at 250 (7lbs) and it was amazing! Everyone scoffed at me when I told them I was smoking it, in fact they said you must be smoking something. HAW! It had a rare, medium and medium rare part for all to enjoy. Problem was I expected it to take six hours so I was caught of gaurd. I was very thankfull that I planned ahead. I was able to cook the rest of the meal while the prime rib rested.

  • just get a wsm smoker, it will save you time my man. i got one and i love it, its always 230 to 250 99 percent of the time.

  • Unnecessary modifications!!

  • You should pick up a charcoal chimey, that way you dont taint the meat with fluid residue.

  • radio is extremely annoying, and was that lighter fluid i saw?

  • Yes to both!

  • Comment removed

  • I looks like a big open smiley face, but I covered it with a downward angle cookie sheet. Later I put a piece of dryer vent extending the smoke stack down to the cooking level. I wanted a hot and cooler section to the smoking chamber. Now it's a 10 to 25 degree difference between sides depending on the wind.

  • I look forward to seeing more video's.

    ;)

  • Hello Thank you for sharing but please keep radio off next time so we can hear you better. Still great ideas.

    ;)

  • Okay, read my previous response. I was smok'n up some stuff this weekend, "on the smoker!" and was having chips and salsa at the same time. Yes I make my own salsa as well. I thought, hey, a little added smoke flavor would go a long way. Then I decided to smoke some jalapinoes. I put them on for about an hour and a half The most amazing thing I have ever had.

Thank you both for your comments, abcomatic, and 24fun69.

  • I do have to go there, 24fun69; "No. I meant this way!" Ponder that. Enjoy all and I will be posting some more vids of my mods soon.

  • Nice work, but for Pete's sake, why didn't you TURN OFF THE FREAKIN' RADIO when you filmed this?

I can barely hear what you are saying in the video!!

Still, vey nicely done, just too much noise in the background.

  • I know. Didn't realize it until too late. I was having a lot of fun. Just an FYI, I have made one more mod. Lowered the smoke stack internally. Works great. I didn't start out to sell what I made, but the orders are pouring in. Again sorry 'bout the music. I think it would have sucked to redub it.

  • I understand, oversights happen now and then. I wasn't trying to give you a hard time, just pointing out the obvious, that's all.

In spite of the loud radio in the background, I still enjoyed the video.

Hope you upload some more about this subject - I found it to be very interesting.

    Thanks!!

  • Awesome idea!! When can we come over for dinner??

  • Pretty cool, thanks for the ideas.
