Actually Jason newstead was one of the first bassists for Metallica but he was kicked out the group shortly after they tried cleaning up their image and he refused to quit partying. Not to mention he wrote some very complex tabs for their tracks. But yes their are better bassists that i could have used to state my point but jason newstead is non the less a decently well known bassist among bassits
whether played with a pick or fingers, it is still bassplaying. you even use your dick or even your tongue as long as it sounds good and you have your own style. my point is that's how versatile bass playing is.
paul gray from slipknot used a pick... hes a main reason why i started using a pick cause i can move from string to string much faster... do alot more complicated rythems... i mean i can finger pluck really easily but picking comes more naturally to me since i played guitar for an extra 2 years before that... i mean im not the best bassist but im not the worst just because i play with a pick... if you wanna see just check out my vids on my channel thanks if you took the time to read this
If you're asking if this can be played exactly the same(same octaves) on a 4-string, It would be possible if you tuned all the way down to BEAD tuning. Probably won't have much punch to it or sound as good as a 5, but it's possible. Typically I wouldn't tune a 4 lower than a low-C. If you don't like the BEAD, give it a try at Drop-D. I can refer you to another tab if needed. Message me for further help. =]
great video man! really help me to find the way to play the song... cause i have a 4 string bass... but hearing and watching the B notes i find easily the note in my bass.. Thanks for upload it
@1218pimp I believe the best of bass players should know a variety of different techniques though specialising in one is never a bad thing, just whatever feel confortable and that u like. Pick Finger Pluck Slap, whatever man lets just make music and have a good time =]
@1218pimp Who's Jason Newstead? You mean the random last guy in Metallica that's been trying to replace Cliff for years? Yeah. He uses a pick. Doesn't make him good, or noticeable. Brian Marshall, now I suppose he's a guy you could tell me uses a pick that's good.
dude use your fingers that was what a bass guitar was made to be played with not a pick... a good bass players fingers look like one giant callus lmao.
@sslayer0117 I've used a pick on maybe 3 or 4 of the 40+ videos I've posted. Definitely not my style, but it was necessary to get the right tone in this case. I'm more precise without one, though. =)
@sslayer0117 hahahahah people like you make me laugh. The whole "To be a good bassist you need to use your fingers" Lol what a joke look at Jason Newstead, Justin Chancellor, Paul Grey, and Mike Dirnt . They are insanely talented and use picks just to get a differnt tone from their bass, it has nothing to do with the fact that they CAN'T pluck w their fingers it has to do w the fact that they WANT to.
@sslayer0117 that's not entirely truth, in fact lots of death metal bass players play with pick, for example, Tana of Avulsed. Picks are very useful for playing fast. Plus, despising music playing techniques only proves that you are so close minded to music.
@sslayer0117 Not trying to start anything with you bro but if your a good bass player your Proficiant in all styles of playing, For example im a bassist and im a pretty good one(im not meaning that to be douchey im just saying i can do some hard shit lol) and i can Slap, Pick, Pluck, Tap, Pretty much everything except Fuck my bass lol(It rhymed). you gotta be proficiant in all styles for different Genres and Tone qualitys like tydog2443 said.
that is not true. sure most great bass players play with their fingers but some great players also use picks. For example: Matt freeman hes is probably one of the best pick bassists ive seen, and theres also Jason Newsted (former Metallica Member). So before you say that, take a look a pick bassists. anyway, great bass playing man! i was thinking of this song for my school band, so can you plz send me a link to tabs to play on a four string? Keep up the good work!
@sslayer0117 u totally dont know what you talking about LOL There is so many goooood bass player who use a pick LOL like Paul Gilbert's Bassist, John Campbell of LoG, David Ellefson of Megadeth and so many more!
