Bo is still amongst the best performers I ever saw on AI. I continue to feel rather puzzled as to why he didn't win; but then again I also cheered for Elliot Yamin who showed the most talent on his season and yet lost. It is not, as it turns out, an indicator of talent to win (or lose) AI.
And that, if I may say so myself, is why I do not watch AI anymore.

Wow... this was the before the top 12 and he was already blowin' it outta the water... like he had been doin' it for years! Amazing. You just knew he was gonna get glowing reviews all across the judges' panel. There's no way that you could watch that and say that Bo Bice doesn't have a great voice and great stage presence.
I think he was amazing then and he still is. After overcoming some major health issues he has come back stronger than ever. I love AI by the way although sometimes I get quite fustrated at times esp when someone I really like gets elimated, but thats the nature of th beast I guess. I love BO and for the record his wife is A LUCKY WOMAN.

I can't think of a more fitting song for this show. I would surely feel "tied to the whipping post" having to sit through an entire episode! Do Simon or Paula really care anything about musicianship, songwriting, or originality in music?? American Idol is destroying American music by promoting manufactured karaoke singers with nothing unique or original to offer.
The Allman Brothers are the total opposite of everything wrong with this show. Long live the Allmans and screw American Idol.
I have to agree with rob140138. Some folks on here are a little harsh with their comments and I feel like they are of base. A butcher?? He didn't butcher the song. Did he do it as good as Allman? No. I don't know anybody else that would. He did the best he could in the context of American Idol. I hate American Idol and how they don't let an artist be who they are. This guy was the first one to actually fight the system without being an asshole. He stuck to his guns and I respect him.
That's (at least, IMHO) all it took, all along--just a bit of assertiveness to really stay the artist you wanted to be. Granted, I haven't challenged this system, but I like that this guy rocked one of my favorite songs :)
First and foremost, NOBODY sings Whippin' Post like Gregg Allman. That being said, I think Bo did the song justice and given the short time frame the band had to arrange the song, they killed it!! These guys are one of the best bands on TV, drummer Teddy Campbell is one of the main reasons to watch the show.
It's kind of like watching it in context of American Idol - it was a pretty good (I remember watching and thinking that when he 1st performed this) American Idol performance, but if you compare it to The Allmans doing the original I have to agree with my fellow YouTubers and say it blows.
I think the fact that Bo never sold out and stuck to his roots during the entire season speaks volumes about this guy... Great singer, and hope he does well!!! Long live Southern Rock!

This is like an amateur hour over-acted rendition. I would have stopped it after 4 bars. Sorry. I've seen the original back with the original band. Sorry Bo and the band, it just wasn't that good. Keep working on it. Watch the vibrato, pitch and melody. It almost has a metal rock attitude which is just wrong for this song.
I don't like it. Solo was about 10 seconds and wasn't remarkable. Vocals were ok but pretty much crappy compared to Gregg Allman's. First time I heard the Allman Brothers' version I thought the singer was a black guy. Also, they really fucked up the ending. In the original the ending was a beautiful jazz-like cadenza and this was just crap.

I'll never forget how COOL it was hearing this for the first time. We were blown away. I thought, "WOW! This guy is the real deal!" I didn't really think AI viewers would votes him through to the end, though. Generally, they aren't the most rock 'n roll savvy bunch.
mannn I have not watched this performance back in SO long! It may not be quiiite as strong VOCALS as I had remembered, but my good lord could that man PERFORM!! Going to have to agree with JaminRebel, very melodramatic and weak rendition of one of the greatest blues anthems every written. Bo obviously can't hold a candle to Greg Allman and the AI band absolutely butchered the song to the point of making me cry.
I actually think this was a good rendition of the song. No doubt, it is hard to beat the Allman version, but Bo did a good job on this song. And I love the outfit.

I gotta say I a not feeling it. Bo, don't quit your next day job. This is cheesy and Micheal Boltenish, very melodramatic. And I think his voice is lame. Of course, everybody wants to be Gregg Allman, or one of the Bros, but this ain't workin' for me. I don't care what the three judges say.

I was in Anaheim and Bo was so sick, but he tried his best before having to cut the show short. He would never cancel a show for any other reason.
I LOVE THIS PERFORMANCE! Bo's new cd coming in September will be amazing because every song on the cd will be written by him. He was forced to sing those generic, non Bo like rocks songs because he signed a contract with Clive Davis not knowing that Clive Davis would make him sing those crap songs. Bo fought it, but if he walked out and left he would have been sued for TONS of money. Bo has a wife and kid to take care of so he could not afford it. BO BICE IS AMAZING!
You know what...I listened to the Allman Brothers sing this song on Youtube just so I could compare Bo to Greg Allman and I know I'm going to hear from a lot of Allman Brothers' fans when I say this, BUT I honestly feel Bo's version is so much better and song with more feeling than Greg's verson.

This is like an amateur hour over-acted rendition. I would have stopped it after 4 bars. Sorry. I've seen the original back with the original band. Sorry Bo and the band, it just wasn't that good. Keep working on it. Watch the vibrato, pitch and melody. It almost has a metal rock attitude which is just wrong for this song.

I don't like it. Solo was about 10 seconds and wasn't remarkable. Vocals were ok but pretty much crappy compared to Gregg Allman's. First time I heard the Allman Brothers' version I thought the singer was a black guy. Also, they really fucked up the ending. In the original the ending was a beautiful jazz-like cadenza and this was just crap.

He looks so unsexy here. I liked how they cleaned him up on the finale night, never ever looked better. The Allman Brothers rule but not bad for an amateur.

If you like this song then check out Frank Zappa's version of it with Bobby Martin on Vocals from the album: Does Humour Belong In Music (there's a great live vid of it on you tube).... then you'll hear how it SHOULD be done. This Bo geezer does a good job though.

I'll never forget how COOL it was hearing this for the first time. We were blown away. I thought, "WOW! This guy is the real deal!" I didn't really think AI viewers would votes him through to the end, though. Generally, they aren't the most rock 'n roll savvy bunch.

mannn I have not watched this performance back in SO long! It may not be quiiite as strong VOCALS as I had remembered, but my good lord could that man PERFORM!! DEF one of the most seasoned performers idol has ever had :) (and for the record, what I said about the vocals didn't mean I didn't LIKE them. Bo had this awesome, gritty, raw texture to his voice that just made him even awesomer. It's just looking back his voice wasn't quiiite as techinically strong as I remembered, that's all)

Going to have to agree with JaminRebel, very melodramatic and weak rendition of one of the greatest blues anthems every written. Bo obviously can't hold a candle to Greg Allman and the AI band absolutely butchered the song to the point of making me cry.

I actually think this was a good rendition of the song. No doubt, it is hard to beat the Allman version, but Bo did a good job on this song. And I love the outfit.

I gotta say I a not feeling it. Bo, don't quit your next day job. This is cheesy and Micheal Boltenish, very melodramatic. And I think his voice is lame. Of course, everybody wants to be Gregg Allman, or one of the Bros, but this ain't workin' for me. I don't care what the three judges say.

the band always does that on this show... but I suppose thats good considering it's a vocal contest. it gives you a chance to overpower the music and make you forget about it with a strong vocal performance. thats why sometimes a singer could sing a great song but it wont be great unless the singer can make themselves better than the song.

Mr. Clive, "you and I are going to make a very special album together" Davis screwed Bo. Why did'nt he let Bo do a CD at what Bo does best, southern rock. It would have blown off the charts. Bo's next CD will be amazing. He's able to go back to his roots and put one out that shows the real Bo.
I was in Anaheim and Bo was so sick, but he tried his best before having to cut the show short. He would never cancel a show for any other reason.

I LOVE THIS PERFORMANCE! Bo's new cd coming in September will be amazing because every song on the cd will be written by him. He was forced to sing those generic, non Bo like rocks songs because he signed a contract with Clive Davis not knowing that Clive Davis would make him sing those crap songs. Bo fought it, but if he walked out and left he would have been sued for TONS of money. Bo has a wife and kid to take care of so he could not afford it. BO BICE IS AMAZING!

You know what...I listened to the Allman Brothers sing this song on Youtube just so I could compare Bo to Greg Allman and I know I'm going to hear from a lot of Allman Brothers' fans when I say this, BUT I honestly feel Bo's version is so much better and song with more feeling than Greg's verson.

Excuse me, TheBigBitch, I grew up listening to the Allman Brothers and I still think Bo sang this song with more emotion than The Allman Bros. version I saw in the video posted on Youtube. Now that's not to say that The Allman Brothers never sang this song with more emotion EVER! It's just saying that I think the version of the Allman Brothers on Youtube isn't as good as this version of Bo's on Youtube. Chill out..life's too short to be so nasty.

TheBigBitch, please keep in mind that Bo wasn't trying to insult the Allman Brothers by singing one of their songs... he was paying homage to them. We should be thanking Bo for singing this song and exposing a whole different generation of young folks to the Allman Brothers' music instead of insulting Bo by saying his version of this song is just spit in his mounth.
