Joey Santiago is actually a lot like Jimi Hendrix, and what I mean by that is that he evokes sounds from his guitar in a way that seems almost spiritual in context. It's not classical, it's almost more like an evocation. Johnny Greenwood put it perfectly. He attacks the guitar.
Fuck, I just came across this link and what do you know Super BONO (the biggest egotistical prick in the fucking world pops up at the start) La da dee da dom I'm Bono and you'll find me in every documentary that gives me exposure. No.2 Piece of Shit. No.2 Prick!
when you've played shea stadium, made albums (especially mccartney who was a part of the band which INSPIRED Charles) that have raised the benchmark for musical creativity to which musicians of all types try to reach, and get off the cynicism bandwagon...then you still won't have accomplished anything by bashing individuals who rightly praise this great band
Listening to this is amazing. I've gained a better appreciation for David Bowie actually. Ok, I'm a huge U2 fan, but I seriously get tired of Bono speaking about other artists. He comes across as someone trying to convince others that he's "cool" and "hip". David Bowie on the hand, sounds like a true fan of music. I get to see them tonight in Milwaukee. Can't wait! Cheers!
Pixies opened for U2 on their Zoo TV tour back in 1992. Jim Greer was a writer for Spin magazine at the time, as well as Kim Deal's boyfriend. He accompanied Kim on that 1992 tour and wrote an article about his observations. According to Greer, the U2 people treated the Pixies like shit. Among other slights, the U2 Organization referred to the Pixies as "Supporting Act" throughout the tour. The U2 band members also could not be bothered to actually get together with the Pixies.
Bowie ,PJ Harvey,Kristen Hersh I've known of their sincere respect /understanding of/for the Pixies and what they mean to music. But Bono & Gavin ? They should find their way to a mountain top or the desert ,and I mean that literally -not as a metaphor, and see if they can find out why they have become posers.
"Monkey Gone to Heaven" is polished and amazing yes....... but honestly, "Hey" is so guttural and raw.....carnal, and achingly authentic...the fact that a sound this cohesive, could come out of this group during a live performance is just another tribute to their immense talent.
Joey's guitar solo, in this song, should just be called panty-remover.!!!
@Gingerblaze There should be no 'but' between any Pixies song analysis. Every song is unique and just as good as the other!! If I start I could go throughout the discography! :)
I agree.. I dont know why people hate on Bono though..he may have an ego but he also did do some stuff that I grew up on in the 80s(The Joshua Tree,Rattle and hum) I thought that that was good as well
Hey is an awesome song, but Dead is the one that just hushes the room. That song is probably their most underrated, and potentially their most powerful. The lyrics are also actually very funny. They're essentially lampooning one of countless stories of sin in the Old Testament.
could be, but I think I'm speaking for quite a number of Pixies fans in saying that Doolittle is one unit, an inseparable whole rather than a regular album with X tracks, some of which are standouts. It's the album I heard more times in my life than any other, and still had to check which song is Dead...
Would you moulinauxs listen to this crap...I have met David twice, seen him in full concert over 32 times in all genres since 1971...please kick this horseshit off YouTube...Good Lord...
Back to Mother's basement with you punkos...niGHT-nIGHT..
Bono, we dont give a shit what you think ok? You belong in the same discusting elite regime as people like Sting and Paul McCartney, your only job is to think you are god, shake hands with politicians, make horrible albums and then shut up.. We dont wanna hear fake people like you talking about REAL music!!!
@bixby1982 You're stuck up by vague info and stereotyped perceptions. Bono may be a horrible musician but you should appreciate that he's a fan. As much as you are. So can you play better than him? I am not a U2 fan but I like that they all admire Pixies. Of course, I am Bowie fan and I am not surprised Bowie is a Pixies fan because they're simply the greatest band to hit planet Earth! I watched them at Brixton 2008. LOVE 'EM!!! :)
I agree. Bono has a problem with his ego. THis is coming from someone who used to be a U2 fan until I discovered bands like the Pixies and realised how much U2 sucks. I liked how in part 2 of this documentary Frank Black said things that were modest such as he didn't really do anything new with the Pixies he just went with something that worked.
@joctheviperp Isn't it great that Pixies never went mainstream? I mean, doesn't it make Pixies what it is in a way? They're people. Money and fame would have ruined them too. Or put them at that risk. No complaints to any corporates or record labels. We love Pixies as they are. They are SIMPLY the best! :)
@Pixieonthe7 What does it matter if they didn't go "mainstream"? There are lots of bands from the 60s, 70s, 80s, & 90s that tapped into the maaaaaaainstreeeam and were good. Without those Top 40 radio some of them would hv never made it. The Pixies were on the verge of hitting it big, unfortunately their inner turmoil tore them a part.
Going to see them in Charlotte in a few day. Really looking forward to hearing Doolittle live!
