I'm not a hunter(the gun laws aren't so great in my country...), so that's why I'm asking,
Why do deer seem to drop so fast? Do you think they just go into shock immediately and just lay there and bleed out, or does their heart stop or is it that they can't breath?
What's the aim of getting a clean kill? Obviously you don't want the animal to suffer- it'd probably spoil the meat too(at least I've heard this is the case with bovine cattle).
@LsLequit a 270 savage will definitely kill a 580 lb black bear at 400 yards. i guess the bear did not know that it was a 270. i hit it right behind the shoulder inducing HYDRAULIC FAILURE. ZERO BLOOD PRESSURE.
This was cool: I normally hunt deer with a .303 but I found it was too much for the goats around here as well. I thought a .243 would do the trick but on second thoughts I decided on a .270 which will do goats and deer. I do archery and black-powder shooting with a .50 calibre Perdersoli country hunter. Bows are longbow, re curve and compound. Must say I have shot big goats with a .22 long rifle low velocity 40 grain bullet. Great video. Subscribed.
@LsLegit A .243 will take down a black bear, but if you have a Grizzly charging at you I suggest a .50 machine gun round :) A .270 should do everything you want.
130 grain soft point is deadly in the .270 for anything in north america. and core lokt for bigger game. you dont have to say about the deer size it can kill anything.
you should hit in one shot forget follow up, big shot. Ignorant people hear .270 and automatically think its a lot weaker than a 30 06. learn ballistics and sectional density first "experts"
I dont know what model I got, but very simalar. I love it, 1 shot 1 kill with it, but I reload so fast that the second bullet jams and squishes the lead tip. other than that I shoot the 150gr rem. core lock. the gun works good hot/cold/wet and dry. Very nice gun and the first rifle I ever bought when I was a kid. good video tho
Haha nice vid I got a savage model 11fcns in .270 wsm and it's got plenty of power. With it a deer has never moved more than a foot after I shoot it. They just drop.
sweet rifle skinnymedic, i just got me a savage model 10, in .308. I was able to shoot it last weekend and it was dead on accurate. After a few shots to site it in i was able to get a 1'' group at 100yards, i had a blast shooting that rifle. Thanks for the vid SkinnyMedic, good luck with this years hunting season.
Ahhh..The good ole Savage .270, I took my first deer with one of these at 12 yrs old. Great rifle. We called the rifle Black Mama, and Mama don't miss.

I agree with you, for this part of the country (I'm in southwest Virginia) a .270 for whitetail brings more than enough bad medicine.

its all about shot location in the southeast a .270 is plenty of power.
