  • Are you sure she wasn't Danish? Christensen is a Danish spelling.

  • this was not a diagonal knot.

  • The problem is wearing a cross knot tends to result in comments like “Hey Bill, your knot looks a little funny, I think you might want to go to the bathroom and fix it.”

  • OK I tried this out… I use a tiny portion for the narrow blade, but still end up with my tie a little short which, in turn, makes me look as though I have emulated a mobster. Do you use an extra–long tie for this knot?

  • This looks absolutely magnificent. I shall use this Cross Knot from now on. Thanks for the splendidly done video. No words necessary!

  • the way i learned to tie a tie was alot like this only it skipped the first part, the bigger end wrapping around the smaller. if you have any idea could you please tell me what this knot is called?

  • why tie a tie a million diferent ways? double windsor is a perfectly fine way to tie the tie

  • @BowToMySkill well yeah, but it depends the kind of collar you have. A double windsor would not look good in a narrow collar, for this example you want to go with the half windsor. This particular knot you saw in this video, perhaps will make it look unique. For me this knot is my favorite, because I dont make the knot too tight, I tend to leave it a little bit loose, and trust me it looks awsome.

  • @BowToMySkill Doesn't work best with all ties. While the Double Windsor is a good knot, it tends to be thicker and is mostly used for more formal occasions. Sometimes a thinner knot is more appropriate.

  • this looks like the 4 in hand basically

  • I like symmetrical knots so I prefer the windsor. Easy, fat, triangular, symmetrical, what else do ya need?

  • he loves nuts..

  • All of these seem the same,,, just different way to tie them...

  • Is there a way to make the knot look like a diamond shape, Can you do a diamond knot tutorial ?

  • Sorry, but I think the finished result is hideous.

  • Whoa! It's so pretentious! It's one of those knots you use when you're going somewhere and you want to remind everyone how much better than them you are, lol. I like it though, it's sexy.

  • This is a FM-25(2) on the Fink Mao list of 85 tie knots. The FM notation is:

Li Ro Ci Ro Li Ro Li Co T T.

Google "Encyclopedia of Tie Knots" for a description of this easy to follow notation as well as this knot, and numerous others. Good video of this knot, btw!

  • shouldn't even have a name for this one. looks sloppy and bulky

  • Honestly they all look the same to me.

  • @Catsetsfire I know what you mean. XD

Still, everything can be an art. :3

  • @Catsetsfire lol EXACTLY. It's not like people are gonna come up to you and ask, "Oh, did you do the half windsor knot today, or the Four in Hand? Maybe the St. Andrew knot?"

  • @theonlykookiee

    - how symmetrical

    - how wide

    - how triangular

    - how much is left hanging

    - is it self-releasing

    - how big

All these depend on the type of the tie

  • the more elegant

  • Alot of thanx! Super.

  • I think this knot is pointless

  • That was very impressive.

  • heel leuk!

  • Pierce Brosnan wore this knot as bond frequently if I'm not mistaken, it's pretty similar to the pratt. Funny how that changes, connery favored the four in hand, and now daniel craig wears a pratt. Can't recall what moore favored.

  • Dimple Pinch

  • swizz... it is considered traditional etiquette to place a "dimple" in the tie below the knot. You must remember that the "suit" tradition spans back hundreds of years and had many caveats that a true gentlemen adheres to.

  • I do favor a good dimple, but I believe that it is a personal choice whether one wishes to have a dimple or not. Your argument is valid none the less. Dimples are mostly used by far.

  • @avvi66 If that is the case, would you kindly do me the favor of linking me to instructions on dimple placement within the knots. I only recently started to tie my own ties, and wish to have knowledge of even the smallest detail involved in this daily ritual.

  • As stated above; this is NOT a normal tie knot. The look is of an "X". For it to look symmetric, you have to have a tie that doesn't expand in width. A strait narrow tie. With a modern tie it's supposed to look "all crooked and shit".

  • i dont like that hole byond the knot, that fold, if you know what i mean. that guy always makes a hole down there. and I do see a lot of men walking around with a hole byond their kno. I cant understand that, i mean its so easy not to make that. it just looks much better without that fold. or does it look good like this?

  • i want chicken.

  • @nashstruck: Thank goodness I wasn't the only one that thought of chicken when hearing the name. lol

  • windsors way better

  • thats why i rock the clip on :)

  • That... is a weird knot.

I'm totally using this the next time I have school :P

  • nothing beats the windsor.

  • Or you're just stupid. Two times around.

  • dude screw this video ur right.

  • i still can't do it =(

  • semi-windsor know?

  • im trying this one for tomorrow

  • Thank You Very Much ! I got to attend a wedding reception in 30 minutes.

Thanks to this video. It helped me tie up my tie !!! THANKS MATE !!!! 5 STARS ! ! !

  • this is definitely my favourite knot ever!! When this is a little loose it makes a X shape that looks really good!

  • ok... i see you know a lot about knots. Q: how do you know how long to make a tie considering a persons height?

  • I'm not the author of this vid.... but, usually I like having the tie come to the top of my belt buckle. Even slightly overlapping the buckle is fine, I think. It should look good for all different heights.

  • thank god for your videos! I finally know a bunch of different knots for my new school. I would be sooo screwed without your awesome videos ! =]

  • I really love all your vids. I've learnt all your knots in one night, and I love it. Feels som good to be able to vary the knot according to the rest of my outfit and the mood of the day. On the Cavendish page you mentioned a book about 85 different knots... amazing! I couldn't begin to think there were that many possibilites.

Thank you som much for your beautiful demonstrations. And, if you have the time and inclination, I'd love a few more vids, of your skills. Another old knot maybe..?:-)

  • Thank you very much! Yes, there will be coming more this fall. :-)

  • thanks for the instruction, ireally like this tie, it come easy to me for some reason, much easier than the winsor. Thanks again.

  • this is a nice one..and the windsor two.

  • nice

  • all of these knots are the same with a slight variation here or there

  • yeah this is the best and stylish knot i've ever tried and my wife's fave.

  • shit this is impossible to me fuck!!!

  • ça c'est bon, je dois le faire

  • that's a beautiful knot though when it's polished and precise.

  • Is this a self releasing knot?

I know it's not probably the best knot to start with(learning) but I like a challenge.

  • hahaha he got owned...that thing is hard to tie if your in the back...he couldn't help to go to the side to fix it...nice vid...no i know how to do that..

  • Depois de feito, deve ser muito difícil pra ajustar o acabamento, não?

After it´s done, it seems very tricky and hard to work the finishing, isn´t it?

  • does the tie go through the inner or outer loop in the end?

  • The inner loop, in other words both loops (thats the whole secret).

  • Do many people wear use this kind of knot?

  • No, not at all!

    :-)

  • Okay, just wondering. I wear this knot a lot now that I know how to tie it. =0)

  • i heard no matter what it's better to untie a tie backwards all the time, otherwise it could warp the tie.

  • I agree.

  • what does it mean to be self-releasing or not self-releasing?

  • When you un-tie your tie, you pull the loop open by pulling the skinny end out of the knot. A self-releasing tie will loose the knot by pulling the ends of the tie apart. The non self-reeasing has to be untied manually.

  • zii zii claro todoz hablam em imglishh ii zho qee? ¬¬

  • should i be considered weird for thinking this is easier than the windsor?

    but which is more profesional?

how do make the length of the tie longer when its done?

sorry for the questions but i needa kno

  • It's not about being professional, pal. It's about using the right knot with the right shirt, and the right neck. Sometimes is the gap between the last button and the end of the shirt enormous, so that you need a lot of cloth above the triangle to "fill" the space. For that use, the Christensen is an absolute killer. Besides, with this knot you get a very clean, well-centered and longlasting dimple.

  • The Windsor is rather to be used with wider collars, and gives good results with older, slightly worn-off ties that don't make such tight, compact but voluminous knots.

  • Turned out pretty nicely, actually.. I've watched about 7-8 tie knot videos now, and I nail them all! I'm pretty supprised!

I've NEVER tied a tie before in my life. I tend to borrow my dad's (which he's already tied), but keep in mind; I'm only 14... so... that changes things a bit. Would have been wierd if I was a grown man =)

  • Just a quick note - I found a tie in Next (I know, I know) that was narrow enough to do this knot, and it came out nicely.

But I tend to prefer slightly bigger, symmetrical knots, and so decided to experiment a little - instead of the Half-Windsor base, I tried a full Windsor before looping it twice, and it came out absolutely perfect.

  • Interesting, I'll have to try that.

  • ur vids are the best... it helps alot! i need help though, can wat can u recommend that gives a perfect triangle? i think windsor is almost like that but is there something else?

ohh and wat do u prefer using?

  • isn't this the same as the half-windsor?

  • No, the final move goes thru two loops, instead of one.

  • god, thank you for this wonderful video. that helped a lot ,'cause now I have to do it myself

  • thank you so much dude - I'm 28 and I never bothered up to this day when I finally had to do it myself - and you helped me out - 1000 times thanks :)

  • What makes this knot better than any other knot? :o

  • The two loops make up an X-shape over the triangle. You can read more in my comments on the top right. The trick is that you need to use a slim tie. Then the X-effect will be very visible. It's a pretty advanced knot to get perfect.

  • Beautiful. I will dress with this one this week!

  • beautiful THX THX

  • finally a gentleman has been able to to teach me to be abe to this. you should become the president of the world. and lead all men

  • I concur. He must become president of earth forthwith, and I shall vote for him.

  • Oh, God... Look!! He hasn't head!!!

  • thx thx master

  • wow that helps me out a lot thx lady

  • I like this one very much. Swish.
