"People ask...where do I get my ideas from? Well, I steal most of them." I notice he doesn't talk about how he joined the Church of Scientology in the late 60s, either. Talked to Larry Niven about this in the 90s, basically asking "How could such a smart man fall for such an obvious con" and he just shook his head sadly....:)
I remember reading this part of "The Martian Chronicles" late at night. I was about 10 when i read it. Scared the hell out of me at the end of this story. :P
There is another story in "The Martian Chronicles," "The Martian." An old couple's late son shows up. The mother believes right away. The father knows it doesn't make sense, the Martian keeps telling him not to question it, just accept it. It's exactly the same thing but in "The Martian" he has no contol over it. He morphs into the person anyone he getst too close to is thinking of. I don't know the motive. I think it was lonliness.
@ThoughtTraveler Thanks for this bit of trivia. I actually always thought the piano song in this episode sounded really similar to Beautiful Dreamer, I didn't know until now that it's a song that already existed.
Sorry to sound like a know it all. I would not have known what she was playing if Bradbury did not put it in his original story. I remember reading it as a boy when the "Martian Chronicles" came out as a mini-series in 1978.
I think they did a much better job here on the Ray Bradbury Theater. I commend you for putting up these shows. My wife and I were flipping through the channels last night and it was all CRAP! They should rebroadcast these shows - they are that good.
i bet you your self would be tricked by the Martians. they get the strongest feelings in your heart. that is how they get you. it wold not necessarily be your gram gram. but someone who you could not live with out. thats who'd they be and thats how they'd get you. you would probably be one of the first to die. so don't be so quick to say that they cannot trap you because they can.
You would think that the Mars Mission landing team here would have some sort of common sense and intelligence.
I do not profess to be the smartest man on the planet by any means. But if I was on a Martian Landing Team and dear old Grandma that died 13 years ago came up to me and tried to hug me I would think first off - HEY Martian Deception here!!!!! HELLO???
How weak minded is it to go off and get duped by these Martians because they disguised themselves as your long dead family members.
Have you ever heard of "Bradbury 13"? Its a series of audio dramas done in 1984. They are amazing, and I have them all on cassette. Bradbury is one of my favorite authors...
Yes, I have them all on cassette too =P. They were recently just re-released in high quality mp3 on the Twilight Zone radio website. I wish they still made radio programs like that.

The title kind of gives the story away, though. Bradbury is THE great American author.

@Kevin107ish No, that would be Jack London.

@Vondur She could play piano with one hand and masturbated with the other, the noise made was to drown out her moans of ecstacy.
