Question to Sonic Fans: Did Sonic's personality change?

I did like his personality in Sonic Colours, cocky, mild-mannered teenager, like the original creators described him. However, his personality seemed very repetitive in Sonic Heroes, almost no problems or serious conflicts arise that make their feelings change in the scene, which is why I wasn't very fond of the storyline either. This is why I liked Sonic's personality in the classic cartoons like the Saturday morning cartoon.

I think the reason Sonic pushed Tails back to eart in Sonic colors is that he didnt want Tails to gt hurt or something. Remember all things what Eggman can do with wisp energy? Note: I've played Sonic colors trough and I'm playing Sonic unleashed, only games I ever played. But I think you're right! I want Sonic from Sonic heroes back! If not from that game, it has to be NORMAL Sonic game without that "you're-in-my-way" attitude. I hate it.

Not only do I hate sonics new voice and personality I hate what they did to everyone else like my fav character that will probably never be in another game shadow he now has the voice of that guy saix I think in kingdom hearts. I also wish we could play as other characters but the one you choose dose not change the story line or has to be played to finish like sonic the hedgehog (Forgot shortcut name)

I think that they may have made sonic seem like a cocky self centered douche, per say, was to make it seem epic or something? idk, I DO feel that sonic doesn't really seem like his old self in colors, it may be because of the voice actors, or the story writers, I'm not really sure, I DO hope that Sonic doesn't become what seems to be a total douche as you mentioned, because that just discriminates the story! I wouldn't want a self centered guy to be the "hero" cause that's not how sonic is!

sonic colors seemed more like comic relief rather than the older Sonics. I like the sonic I grew up on like the sonic cd look and the "adventure of sonic the hedgehog" series attitude. Give me look of expression "I'm waiting".

I don't think Sonic should be too cuddly. I like him to have some teenager attitude, not being too polite or confident like in Sonic Heroes.

But I like playing the old games like Sonic 1, 2, and 3, so I can assume what he's thinking and acting like for the whole game without dialogue. This also makes it fun for players to make sense of the story and observe what actions are taking place.

Adventure Sonic so.... he was more responsible and friendly(not to Amy :P) before. At least he got more frendly to Amy in unleashed(IT'S WORLD ADVENTURE SOA!), but that not comes to case. And not only Sonic's personality, but Tails one too! He was always running behind Sonic, always watching his back, and what he do here? just sit back and translate(I'm not saying that wasnt necessary)! I miss'em(old personalties and characters too) all.*long pause*

Yeah thats rly true, I prefer the old one(..old one in quotes, I mean, from unleashed and backwards), and after watching some of the colors videos, I know why they made sonic like a moron in machinima videos. as for the last part, I don't know if he was trying to protect Tails(because you never see him anymore running behind Sonic! in my opinion, Sonic should stay the same friendly budy he rly is! i mean, look at Sonic 06. dispite of the glitchy game he did everything, but EVERYTHING to make Elise happy. And you confused me a bit there, when sonic pushes tails to earth in sonic colours, its the only sonic-like thing he does in the entire game. Its considerate(to protect tails), done in a cool way, and also benefits him as he gets to hog(sorry) the limelight. That scene alone made sonic 20% cooler.

@OzcrashSoNiC Think, in the end it was a good thing. Tails isnt as fast as sonic, so when it came to running down the building ahead of the explosions Tails would have:

A: been blown to smithereens

B: jumped and fallen to his death.

Besides, what could tails have actually done to help? It was too risky for an 8 year old so sonic sent him to safety.

@OzcrashSoNiC Actually tails had proved his worth throughout the game as the tech expert, but he isn't built for fighting. And tails only became super tails once, in sonic 3 and knuckles, and he didn't actually help sonic then. He may have helped in heroes but i think we can all agree that that game didn't exactly help sonics image.

And even if he did stay, there was no super sonic boss battle, so you're saying tails would go super and sonic wouldn't? Sonic wouldn't be happy :P

I hate sonics new voice actor and style with a passion. It feels like he's caught some sort of disease and ended up in a bad sitcom. I understand why people found the 'old' sonic annoying, but it suited him. He's 15, and if you play sonic chronicles(hugely underrated) it makes more sense about how much he's 'grown up' so to speak.

As for stories, i think sonic would benefit from huge epic stories. His personality works well with things like that(he's basically the same as Dante from dmc).

I wan't a mix betwwen old and new sonic. The old is emotional but in colours he's kinda funny. But when he pushed tails to the earth he was scared about him. Just look at the final cutscen after terminal velocity.

But he's always mock others in this game. If they put sonic like old games + the funny side from colours I will be happy

Sonic's personality was mature like you said. but it was getting less and less mature as the games progressed. frankly, colours skipped a process that should have taken at least five more games. so, yes, he changed, and no, I don't like it, and if possible, I'd like his SADX/SA2 personality back

I don't mind jokey Sonic if the jokes are actually funny, and sadly (to me anyway) that wasn't the case in Colors. Every single thing he said in that game came off as incredibly forced, same with Tails and the two robots. I like sonic being snarky and such, but I'd consider it a better balance if he actually logically reacted to events happening around him instead of playing comedian 24/7. So I'll have to say I prefer his personality from Adventure 2 than recent games.

In Colors, if people pay attention to the story, he also did that for more than just saving Tails and stuff.

He did it because Tails saved him earlier. Which was when Eggman had the prototype mind control ray.

Tails pushed Sonic out of the beams way.

Ended up losing juice before Tails and Sonic were forced to fight though. So Sonic just repayed the favor just gotta pay attention to the story.

I like how Sonic is currently. He cares more about his friends. Especially seeing it with Chip. Best way I could see him being portrayed. I mean he is stuck in the Werehog form and Chip was gonna leave him there so he could go deal with the mess on his own. But Sonic shows him no he needs him they gotta stick together.

In all honesty, Sonic has always been a care-free trustworthy protagonist throughout the entire franchise. I remember some moments in SA2 when Sonic was acting less serious then usual. Like when he was launched in a capsule out of the Ark. You all remember his reaction. He didn't seem worried at all. In Sonic Colors, when he shoved tails back into the elevator, he wasn't trying to be the hero, he was trying to save his life. Didn't he say something like... "See you at the bottom buddy!'?

I think the old sonic was a bit of a douche as well... Basically I think Adventure sonic was the perfect mix. He was cool and adventurous while still including his friends. But in colors he tries to give himself all the credit (right before final boss) for freeing the planets. Being a dick to tails really made me dislike sonic quite a bit in that game...

I agree 100%. I don't know why these people don't like "power of teamwork", but no one can do everything by themselves. Hell, even Superman would've died a few times. :P I'm going to be honest here, I loved his attitude in Unleashed and the Black Knight.

@SonicHyuga I facepalm'd like 40 times in the game. Sonic Adventure 2 was like an interactive TV Show to me. It had the perfect balance of suspense and humor. It kept me coming back for more. Colors was good in the gameplay aspect, but "Happy Tree Friends" Dialogue? WTF?! Sega is getting lazy with dialogue. I mean at least re-use some of the ideas from AdvenTRUE 1 and 2.
