I only remember a color version of this ad campaign. Our family didn't have television in 1964, and the first receiver my father bought in 1968 was in color.
A commercial that predated the pop song was WE'VE ONLY JUST BEGUN by The Carpenters--they lengthened it to make it a top forty song by adding a 'musical bridge' (finding horizons that are new to us) etc.--jln55, I hate it when kids could no longer play outside, so video games, are the blame;i think it made kids FATTER, especially boys.
another commercial that pre-dated the pop song was WE'VE ONLY JUST BEGUN ; it was a commercial for Crocker Bank; people liked it, they lengthen the song with an extra 'musical bridge'. I remember the commercial
The commercial pre-dated the pop song. Same was true with Benson and Hedges cigarettes theme which became "The Disadvantages of You". SHould have been "The Disadvantages of Lung Cancer", but perhaps not as catchy.
I'm pretty sure this commercial first appeared in the Fall of 1964.
It's also historically significant as one of the first TV commercials to feature a rock 'n roll music soundtrack.
Wasn't this commercial re-shot in color in late 1965 or early 1966, but with the same music and voice-over as this original 1964 version??
This has to be considered one of the ten best commercials in the history of American television advertising and perhaps the single best TV commercial of the 1960's.
@altfactor I remember it was my favorite commercial as a kid..I'd stop what I was doing when ever it came on (only later in life did I figure out, I simply had a thing for women dancing). :-)
With SuperBowl commercials coming on tonight, my husband and i were remembering our favorite all-time c's when we were growing up. This is the one that stands out the most for me. Amazing feeling to find it here on YouTube!! Awesome!!!

Sounds like it was advertised to cure a hangover. This was the golden age of the cocktail hour, the liquid lunch, and the martini.

A lot more fat stomachs 45 years after this commercial hit the screen! You could include half of all American kids under 18.

You know it's funny how afraid the media is to show a woman's fat stomach for a change back then and even now.... How dumb is that.

I sure don't want to see them.

Actually, the song wasn't adapted for the commercial. It was adapted FROM the commercial!

This is from about 1965 I think. Where did you ever get this ?! There were no VCRs then. I saw tihis as a kid at about 11 years old.

a great old song and the most memorable and long-lived commercial on the tube.

The song was done by the T-Bones, who later became Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds.

I liked the music of this song, so when it was adapted for Alka Seltzer, that was the icing on the cake!
