ok so i ave this amp and ave mission m74is at the front, i need some surround speakers i was leaning towards the wharfedale diamond 9.0 or kef coda 7 what do you guys think? or any recomendations for someone on a tight budget?

The amp will not display tru hd or dts master because the ps3 decodes the audio and sends it as linear pcm.Meaning your amp should be receiving multi channel pcm.

Basically you are getting hd audio but the ps3 is decoding it not the amp.:)

yeah,i see what you mean..though my amp was working fine till one morning i put it on to listen to music,(still with same settings as last time i used) and instead of stereo mode,it came on in multi channel mode,and no matter what i do i wont change from multichannel mode..i have no idea why it changed the setting ,because i never changed any settings

Hi,i have it already set to those settings mate..I still get no true hd sound..when the ps3 is set to linear pcm the ps3 says i get true hd,but the amp doesn`t and i only get normal pro logic,then when i put the ps3 to bitstream then i get dolby digital ..but no bolby true hd..this is dring me insane

yeah, i kinda have that problem myself.. i guess when u play a 7.1 channel true hd bluray disc, then it might say that. ive never played an actual bluray disc. so ive never seen the "Dolby True HD" sign...

i think the ps3 cant send true hd or dts hd as a bitstream..which makes me regret buying the silly ps3..I will just hope sony give us an update so it can send these signals in bitstream form..if they dont give us an update by xmas then i will buy a stand alone blu ray player and sell the ps3

no, the ps3 does in fact have Dolby True HD, and DTS-MA. The PS3 can decode TrueHD into PCM now, and is expected to do so for DTS:MA as well. f you would like, i would not have a problem with giving you a link of where i found this information..

The PS3, once the DTS-HD Master Audio (DTS-MA) firmware upgrade has taken place (which it already did.) will decode the DTS-MA and send it to the receiver as LPCM.

You only need the receiver to decode DTS-MA if you wish the PS3 to send the DTS-MA through in its unaltered digital state.

This is a excerpt from the cnet forums: "since the update the PS3 can decode DTS-MA and DTS-MA HR formats. The bad news. The PS3 still can not bitstream the HD formats to your player. You have to set the PS3 to LPCM and let the PS3 do the decoding and send the HD tracks as lossless PCM to your Onkyo. You CAN NOT have the PS3 set to bitstream and let the Onkyo do the decoding of the HD tracks for you. You will only get the Dolby Digital or DTS tracks from this method.

when did this update take place? as i have the newest update and when i set the ps3 to lpcm the amp says it is only a dolby pro logic signal,i have heard some say that it really is a true hd signal,but as the amp is not decoding it,then it wont say true hd..anyway,can you send me the link please?

What does this mean? Your Onkyo will never say on the display Dolby HD or DTS-MA. It will only say Multi Channel PCM. In terms of difference in sound quality, if there is any, it should be minuscule. If you really have your heart set on seeing your Onkyo say Dolby HD or DTS-MA, you will have to get a stand alone BD player that can bitstream packed audio to the receiver. Other than that, you are not missing anything.

Just put it on all channel. On the ps3, put all 2 Channel, 5.1 44.1 and 7.1 44.1. when yo udo that, you can then put it on ALL CHANNEL.

yeah,i just noticed it was the ps3`s fault,ithad reset my old settings and i thought it was something on the amp end..I think i will save up and buy a real dvd player,as i`m fed up with the ps3...anyway,thanks to reply to my message ..

I just got the brand new Onkyo HT-SP908 7.1 1080p trueHD sound system. The subwoffer that comes with it is very,very, nice! it can be earthquake bassy or soft and beautiful. it took a long time to install. but in the end , after getting firedog to mount it, it was well worth it! oh and make sure when u get this to make sure you change the HDMI sound and vid options. accept all Linear 2ch but accept ONLY the first Linear 5 ch option and the first 7.1 linear pcm option.

Yes, i just got one of those. it came with the ONKYO HtSp-908 system. When using the ps3for HD sound and video with the hdmi, make sure you do the following steps: when selecting your connections in the ps3 audio options, choose HDMI.. then choose manual, then ONLY check the following: Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1 ch, AAC, All the linear 2ch's, Only Linear 5.1 44.1 khz, and only Linear 7.1 ch 44.1 khz. you must do this when having hdmi audio and vid. to have all speakers working
