SFO instead of LAX AUS instead of SAT BWI instead of IAD YUL instead of JFK,LGA, DTW instead of PHL TPA instead of MIA RDU instead of EWR if you do not mind driving a long time
IF YOU GO TO THE SMALL AIRPORTS, YOU WILL PAY AS MUCH MONEY FOR THE CAB RIDE THAN FOR THE FLIGHT COST! IT WILL BE BY FAR EASIER TO GO TO THE BIG AIRPORTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not always. The airfare difference between Killeen-Ft. Hood Regional (my local airport) and Austin International (85 miles away) is typically at least $200 flying to the same destination.
A one-way cab from Austin airport to Killeen is $80 flat rate. The Greyhound is $15 if you don't mind waiting.
Are you serious??? You do realize...major hubs......are cheaper........you go to those smaller airports you're gonna pay out the wazoo for a flight.....
One common problem is if your travel plans change or if your flight is cancelled you have fewer options. Often there is only one or two flights to/from a secondary city. Airfares are actually more money because less competition.
I've alternated between flying out of BOS and Manchester, NH(I live fairly close to the MA-NH border). Sometimes I do get cheaper flights from Manchester, and sometimes I don't. But for all of my husband's business trips(including ones I join him on), it's always Manchester for the convenience. When it's a casual flight, I prefer to go from BOS via JetBlue, if I can(to save money for my honeymoon, I flew BOS-JFK, then JFK-Barcelona).
as a Flight dispatcher i know for a fact, the last flights i delay/cxl are the ones going into a major city such as BOS SFO or even any NYC airport. They're bigger markets, the airfare is lower in the citys because they have more airlines to choose from there for makeing the compitition bigger ALWAYS think major city.
Great....more expensive to fly there...takes more time to get to and from the airport...just because it is an alternate doesn't mean it won't have delays and cancellations...Then you have to pay more for fuel to get to and from the airport... Are you working for or against travelers?? I have seen a few tips now that could lead people to unwanted stress rather than that 5 minute time saver, oh boy!!!!
never mind LAS instead of RDU it was supposed to be LAS instead of RNO

Providence is SOOOO much better to go into over Logan. Especially if your final destination is SOUTH of Boston.

Use these smaller out of the way airports and your cab fare will be more expensive than your airfare.

Usually I agree with this advice, but he doesn't even mention the added monetary cost of going to these smaller airports.
Not to mention travel times unless it is closer to your destination or simply a layover (also something there are less of in the smaller airports).

Oakland Airport is closer to Downtown San Francisco, that San Francisco Airport.
OAK is a far better airport.
So,it's not more expensive, at least to Oaktown-SFO.
