The guy had an air ride suspension on the bike. It used some small compressors, that's the noise you're hearing. Again, I didn't build the bike, I only recorded the video at a motorcycle show.
yeah thats not annoyingly loud. cool concept not to great on the practical applications, unless pissing people off with all the noise is what you were going for. I really could have done without the 50secs of squelching in my ears.
@patracy I'm pretty sure no one expected to have their ears start bleeding when they clicked on your vid. I didnt say, you vid sucked or that the bike sucked, only that the loud squeal was annoying. Have you thought of a way to reduce the noise made by what I'm assuming is a pressure tank of some sort.
Have you looked into incorporating a hydrallic recooperative braking system into the powertrain? I am presuming the engine uses mechanical fuel injector pump in an indirect injection config (NO FADEC)?
How did you calculate 93% efficiency? I'm assuming you meant for the hydraulic system since the conversion of chemical energy to mechanical work in a internal combustion engine is rarely better than 20%.
@brohaam Actually a hydraulic or even hydrostatic drive is much more efficient than a belt drive CVT. I too have heard complaints about hydraulic drive being weak however it is usually due to a Broken seal or mismatched components such as the pump being too large for the engine or the fluid reservoir is too small, or too fast / too slow a priming time, e.t.c.
@brohaam Actually, modern diesels are reaching into the 50%-range nowadays, especially those on trucks. For gas engines though, what you're saying is pretty much true, 20-30% efficiency is fairly normal.
I don't understand why. I know very little about hydraulic drives so I was wondering if this gives a specific advantage or is this a project to show off ability to make it. Pretty cool either way. I just for the life of me can't think of any big advantage to this in a 2 wheeled vehicle.
93% efficiency is leaps and bounds better than most drive systems. Actually this setup generates very little heat. The pump is a variable vane pump allowing for a precise reduction without generating heat.
I dont pretend to be an expert but that sounds hard to believe, haw can pumping fluid through pipes and driving pump/motor use less energy than turning gears?
I take ur word for it as I am not in a position to prove u wrong, but that sounds odd!?
Less mass, less friction since hyd fluid is a lubricant (you're pushing fluid instead of sliding metal to metal), You also get an precise torque multiplication with the variable vane setup.
@patracy I read about the 2wd R1 using hydaulics on the front. I think it was Ohlins who built it not too sure the testers said it was great an only kicked in when the rear slipped. Dont know why yamaha hasnt done it this was done years ago
@patracy Are you sure? I remember that a 2wd hydraulic bike could run very slow, its weight was too much, transmission oil cooling was problematic, rotor into wheels hub was too heavy,.. no handly, no real use..
@nicodanger13 Hydraulics are very lightweight and efficient. There's a reason everything is hydraulic on equipment you know. without hydraulics a skid steer would need a mechanical transmission that would outweigh the rest of the machine. As far as cooling, the oil is always cycling in the circuit so it cools itself....

why diesel engines sound so bad compared to petrol engines ?

what the engine ? what is the cubic capacity ? 4 stroke ?
