The world that Tony Stark lives in is no doubt the same as the hulk, and most definitely all other Marvel superheroes right? So, I'm sure everyone in that world knew about captain america's achievements in WW2, he was a national hero after all, so my best guess would be that its a replica of his famous shield. However it's the round shield and I know Cpt used a "traditional" shape. A super hero replica IN a super hero movie.

It's cap's shield but it's broken, cap lived during WW2 so like 60 years before iron man. It's a broken shield, or a unfinished shield that tony's dad left behind.

Cannot see how you pepole weren't aware of all these movies in the first place. It was a MAJOR source leak back in 2007 stating that these movies were in the process of being penned and some had even been inked for story boards by late 2007.

Well they've made movies with appearances from iron man, black widow and hulk. A cap movie is on its way and mjolnir made an appearance at the end of iron man 2. Its kind of obvious a big crossover style movie is on its way, maybe even more than avengers likke spidey and the x men appear in it 2 ( e.g maybe a secret wars movie). Guys, The Avengers are going to make an appearance in Iron Man 3. In Iron Man 2, when Stark is creating his new chestpiece (putting together the hardware to make the element), his agent walks in and finds Captain America's shield, then Stark puts it under the machine. Then, near the end of the movie, he talks to some patch eyed businessman, and one of the envelopes (that were top secret to Stark) was named 'The Avengers'.
So, my verdict, there is gonna be a big get together with the heroes.

It's in Iron Man 2 too. In the particle accelerator scene, Stark is looking for an object to keep his accelerator coil level. He ends up using the Captain America shield handed to him by the SHIELD agent supervising.
Yeah, it's in the background there, and the sheild agent hands it to Stark to level out the power coil in Iron Man 2, when he is making the new chest piece. =D

@PJPH16 His true shield was not made by Stark but accidentially by someone else (forgot his name) and presented to him by the President (F.D.R.). Stark however always would borrow his shield for study. The one in the movies however, is likely a prototype from when they were trying to make the origional one since this is before Cap's return, and The Hulk movie seems to show his shield frozen with him.

[Iv always loved comics but i never liked how whatever ones i pick up are different parts of different renditions.]
I would recommend you read the Volumes. The stories in each volume you can say are like the MAIN story of the specific super hero, then there's other comics but you can say those are like spin offs or sub-plots. I know for Iron Man its up to Volume 4 and Captain America I believe is up to Volume 5. Marvel actually sells dvd's that have complete collections (DIGITAL) like the one I got has Iron Man Volumes 1-4, Annual Issues etc. They're around $65 on eBay. Look into it.
Oh and also, don't try to buy the actual paper comics unless you have bundles of cash because some of the very first issues range in the thousands of dollars lol. So Digital Comics would be your best bet right now. You can buy some of the newer issues and they're rather inexpensive. Google "comic vine" and do a search for Captain America and you can find every comic and every volume for him.
Ive never read any of the actual comics, despite the amount of knowledge of Marvel I have. I myself have been tryingto get into the actual comics...but I want to get wholes from first to last, though should probably start with the main ones that go on forever, like X-Men. Marvel games like to give outalot of info, and wikipedia is very good too. I spend hours just reading about Marvel stuff.
@TheSpartan3001 its not the real CAP shield but the prototype that Starks father made for CAP which was later scraped and remade and guess what the Starks kept it :)
Wait a minute- in the comics Cap was given the circular shield by FDR- I remember that distinctly, and that the shield had been made from a process that could not be re-created. That adamantium (like Wolverine's bone are sheathed in) was the closest they had ever come to Cap's shield, but still wasn't as strong as the shield- that's why Wolverine can't claw thru Cap's shield. I stand by what I said before, that Tony was probably trying to re-create the shield. Unless the movie is retconning...
Yup it is stronger than adamantium. I was able to get home and look through the comic book for the movie and it says that Tony went though some of his dad's old files when he was looking for which material to use for his suit. So I think that when he was doing that he probably came across some unfinished shields but had no idea what they were. The book also says that the shield was "lost" and how its one of a kind and the material for Iron Man's suit was a "prototype/reject"
For those of you wondering how in the hell Tony Stark ended up with the shield, Tony's dad Howard Stark, actually pretty much made Captain America. From what I know he invented the serum that makes Steve Rogers into Captain America. When I bought the the first movie it included a short comic book and it showed events that took place in the time line of the movie but they weren't put into the movie as scenes. Being a huge Iron Man fan since I was little, I actually read it :) lol
@XChangyX In it Nick Fury says that the material that is used for Iron Man's suit (Adamantium) is only a "prototype" and I think at the end of the little book they show Captain America's shield. So for those of you wondering if the shield is the same material, the answer is no...or it might be, but just a better developed version of it. Don't bash me if I'm wrong because the movies might not be 100% the same as the actual comic books. I can quote it word for word later when I get home

I just watched Iron Man 2. Just because he said it wasn't a shield doesn't mean it doesn't turn into one or become the basis for one. It's an obvious Captain America Shield look a like.

Cannot see how you pepole weren't aware of all these movies in the first place. It was a MAJOR source leak back in 2007 stating that these movies were in the process of being penned and some had even been inked for story boards by late 2007.

Well they've made movies with appearances from iron man, black widow and hulk. A cap movie is on its way and mjolnir made an appearance at the end of iron man 2. Its kind of obvious a big crossover style movie is on its way, maybe even more than avengers likke spidey and the x men appear in it 2 ( e.g maybe a secret wars movie). Either they'll dfo the whole avengers thing in the Cap movie or they'll do the movie then do an avengers movie. I wonder who could play thor? Chris Evans is Cap :(

Guys, The Avengers are going to make an appearance in Iron Man 3. In Iron Man 2, when Stark is creating his new chestpiece (putting together the hardware to make the element), his agent walks in and finds Captain America's shield, then Stark puts it under the machine. Then, near the end of the movie, he talks to some patch eyed businessman, and one of the envelopes (that were top secret to Stark) was named 'The Avengers'.
So, my verdict, there is gonna be a big get together with the heroes.

The position of the shield directly below the device he used to create the new element "somehow" had an unpredictable effect on the metal of the shield, which cannot be recreated but made the shield completely indestructible.
Stark will later give it to Captain America.
That could be a way for them to make it work.

It was probably found somewhere, since Capt. America was an enhanced super-soldier during WWI, but got frozen until modern times (he's THAT bad-ass).
Maybe the military gave it to Stark in order to have it engraved?

The US Government wanted to make a whole army of super-soldiers, like Cap, but the Nazis sabotaged the plan in the early forties..but wait...i think if we talk about this, we should gain information from the best source :) Check marvel.com they have information about the Cap, inside the character bios.. that's really a kickass site to get some facts about "The Star Spangled Avenger" :)

well, tonys father invented the shield, he will be seen as a young man in cap movie, and yeah, we sah his shield in iron man 1, 2, and a deleted scene from the new hulk movie, where bruce runs to northpole to kill himself and for a second you can see cap lying under ice with his shield.
i love those moments only rewal comic fans understand, like mjolnir lying around at the end.

It's in Iron Man 2 too. In the particle accelerator scene, Stark is looking for an object to keep his accelerator coil level. He ends up using the Captain America shield handed to him by the SHIELD agent supervising.

@PJPH16 His true shield was not made by Stark but accidentially by someone else (forgot his name) and presented to him by the President (F.D.R.). Stark however always would borrow his shield for study. The one in the movies however, is likely a prototype from when they were trying to make the origional one since this is before Cap's return, and The Hulk movie seems to show his shield frozen with him.

I would recommend you read the Volumes. The stories in each volume you can say are like the MAIN story of the specific super hero, then there's other comics but you can say those are like spin offs or sub-plots. I know for Iron Man its up to Volume 4 and Captain America I believe is up to Volume 5. Marvel actually sells dvd's that have complete collections (DIGITAL) like the one I got has Iron Man Volumes 1-4, Annual Issues etc. They're around $65 on eBay. Look into it.

Oh and also, don't try to buy the actual paper comics unless you have bundles of cash because some of the very first issues range in the thousands of dollars lol. So Digital Comics would be your best bet right now. You can buy some of the newer issues and they're rather inexpensive. Google "comic vine" and do a search for Captain America and you can find every comic and every volume for him.

Ive never read any of the actual comics, despite the amount of knowledge of Marvel I have. I myself have been tryingto get into the actual comics...but I want to get wholes from first to last, though should probably start with the main ones that go on forever, like X-Men. Marvel games like to give outalot of info, and wikipedia is very good too. I spend hours just reading about Marvel stuff.

Wait a minute- in the comics Cap was given the circular shield by FDR- I remember that distinctly, and that the shield had been made from a process that could not be re-created. That adamantium (like Wolverine's bone are sheathed in) was the closest they had ever come to Cap's shield, but still wasn't as strong as the shield- that's why Wolverine can't claw thru Cap's shield. I stand by what I said before, that Tony was probably trying to re-create the shield. Unless the movie is retconning...

Yup it is stronger than adamantium. I was able to get home and look through the comic book for the movie and it says that Tony went though some of his dad's old files when he was looking for which material to use for his suit. So I think that when he was doing that he probably came across some unfinished shields but had no idea what they were. The book also says that the shield was "lost" and how its one of a kind and the material for Iron Man's suit was a "prototype/reject"

For those of you wondering how in the hell Tony Stark ended up with the shield, Tony's dad Howard Stark, actually pretty much made Captain America. From what I know he invented the serum that makes Steve Rogers into Captain America. When I bought the the first movie it included a short comic book and it showed events that took place in the time line of the movie but they weren't put into the movie as scenes. Being a huge Iron Man fan since I was little, I actually read it :) lol

@XChangyX In it Nick Fury says that the material that is used for Iron Man's suit (Adamantium) is only a "prototype" and I think at the end of the little book they show Captain America's shield. So for those of you wondering if the shield is the same material, the answer is no...or it might be, but just a better developed version of it. Don't bash me if I'm wrong because the movies might not be 100% the same as the actual comic books. I can quote it word for word later when I get home
