@fighttheracists ....No one said admired but you.... The theme here is revolution against Corporation Fascists. Country Joe is representation of a leader .... You obviously are in love with George W. Bush, a mass murderer
@fighttheracists The group's name is derived from leftist politics; "Country Joe" was a popular name for Joseph Stalin in the 1940s, while "the fish" refers to Mao Tse Dung's statement that the true revolutionary must "swim among the people as a fish." So where along the lines do you believe they weren't being satrical and makin a political point? Idiot

Unfortunately i didn't come of age during those amazing but turbulent times ( born in 1960) however recognize in many respects 1967 was like breaking through to the other side, or the tipping point from black and white 50's/early 60's conformity to a kaleidoscope of creativity if only for a brief (maybe 5 year) window of time. SF provided a good portion of that soundtrack and CJ&TF with EMFMB a vivid audio reminder of the changes occurring then.

I was driving home frome work one Friday Night and there this college radio show call Stone Hinge that come on Friday's fro 8pm to midnight on WREK in Atlanta. A Georgia Tech station. They played this song and I turned it up and didn't get out my car till it finished
The Cinnamon Tree, Magoo's Pizza Parlor...haven't heard those names in many a year...brings back a lot of good memories...wow, we were lucky, weren't we to have been in the center of the musical universe between 1965- 1970! (And yes, my age is 65, not 35...typographical error)..
Indeed, I´d like to have witnessed that time - but then I would be 40 years older, erm, I prefer to be 43 ... sorry. But it was a great time, I´m sure!
I saw David Cohen at a performance at my college, he talked to myself and a few others about some of his old days at Monterey Pop... Nicest guy and one hell of a piano player!!!
This song launched thousands of Trips. Redwood City? Saw a band called The Warlocks in RWC before they changed their name to The Grateful Dead. Sequoia Rules!
i used to catch the warlocks at the "Inn Room" in the little town of Belmont, just up the road from RWC....musta been late '65 or early '66...they did a great version of "Little Red Rooster" back then...
The Inn Room? You must be a bit older than the 35 you have listed. I know when they were playing there but unlike the guys in The Dead w/ fake ID's I didn't have one & was around 16 at the time. Don't think a fake ID would have worked for me.Heard some good stories about them there. I saw The Warlocks at any age dance place in RWC called The Cinnamon Tree not long after there debut at Magoo's Pizza in Menlo Park. They were a whole new trip & was a great time on the Peninsula as sure you agree
An excellent upload, and I really appreciate the historical notes (click More Info at upper right). I delivered food to soaked, starving, strung out hippies at Woodstock as a 14-year-old. I used to go fishing in the now-famous pond people went skinny-dipping in. We summered in White Lake, just down the road from Max's farm. He was a pisser too. I grew up looking at his name on the milk boxes. =o)
The title, Section 43, refers to the part of the California Penal Code that made LSD illegal for the first time and took effect shortly after Ronald Reagan was elected governor running on a platform to crack down on the hippies and student protestors. The first Love-in in Golden Gate Park took place the week that the law took effect.
If a "True revolutionary" must swim among the people like a fish, then why does the revolutionary who rises to power all to often forgets about his fish friends he swam among!....Power is the great corrupter. better to be a reasonably happy peasent! :)
always wanted to know the name of this little gem from monterey and the story behind the title, quite cool..musically, i can see where spacemen3 and spiritualised got their influence from now..smoke on!!
Before you got busted for smokin pot: Driving up the wrong side of street late one nite w/ a 2 ft Hooka burning in the back seat, we got pulled over while listening to this one. We just sat there in a frozen paranoia state & the cop just looked at us. He wasn't quite sure to make of ithe situation or what a hooka even was at the time...lol! We were sooo stoned. He just said...go home! Great times for sure...

If you wonder why there's so much evil in the world it's because people such as this support it.

But wouldn't you rather have 10 years of powerful love and psychedelia even though it would make you older in todays blandness?

I saw David Cohen at a performance at my college, he talked to myself and a few others about some of his old days at Monterey Pop... Nicest guy and one hell of a piano player!!!

This song launched thousands of Trips. Redwood City? Saw a band called The Warlocks in RWC before they changed their name to The Grateful Dead. Sequoia Rules!

i used to catch the warlocks at the "Inn Room" in the little town of Belmont, just up the road from RWC....musta been late '65 or early '66...they did a great version of "Little Red Rooster" back then...
irishrogue63 2 years ago
The Inn Room? You must be a bit older than the 35 you have listed. I know when they were playing there but unlike the guys in The Dead w/ fake ID's I didn't have one & was around 16 at the time. Don't think a fake ID would have worked for me.Heard some good stories about them there. I saw The Warlocks at any age dance place in RWC called The Cinnamon Tree not long after there debut at Magoo's Pizza in Menlo Park. They were a whole new trip & was a great time on the Peninsula as sure you agree

the music of the 60's and 70's seems to stir up memories of a past life. I yearn for those times.

I love the music but hate the politics. What should I do?
FractAlkemist 2 years ago
Enjoy the music! You don't have to buy into the lefty shit to appreciate composition any more than you need to be a capitalist to go buy stuff.

Get into politics.

This group had alot in common with the Doors, esp. the organ and the loose, wandering song structure.

Now lets tell everyone at the Associated Press to just come to NYC for the American Patriot is there & he will not stop ever seeking justice.
Google American Patriot Jeff Bootstraps Fisher &scream everywhere Al Gore World Peace Forever
I have many college students in the city asking questions now about Election Fraud.
They are glad that Ron Paul & Dennis Kucinich really are also true patriots & want Bay Point School exposed as well.
In NYC great thanks also goes to Al Sharpton.
