Hi, I'm having trouble finding sampled sounds once I save them into my Fusion. It's like they disappear once I go to another area (like once I go from "sampler" to "program", for example). Either that, or somehow I'm not finding the proper HD bank to locate my samples. I don't know.
In Global / Item, you have to select the samples and multisamples folders and to make Process / Verify. This must be done after every creation of new folders, as when you install new banks with Fusion Convertor or when you create a new sample bank.
I just sampled the drum loops in the original recordings. For both loops, you can isolate two measures without other instruments, so it's ok for using them in a sampler.
this does not really sound like it. The beginning (chirps) compared to yours has more of an upper registry on the orginal. For the live version from 1992 and 2007 (which is lower) , I found that the midi crystal sound feature nearly identical.
I don't use the same keyboards as Tony Banks, so it's very diificult to have exactly the same sound, especially in such complex instrumental mixes. Thanks for the info.
I'm really warming to this synth. From the vids here on 'YouTube' and listening to the demo's on the Alesis site, for all you get in this package, this is one amazing synth workstation for the money.
What you do is purchase you a non powered mixing board. Next make sure you have a good sound card on your computer. Hook everything up as needed. Next make sure you have a decent recording software for your computer. At this point you should be able to record as your heart desires.
In VA programming, you only have three oscillators. Each waveform has a shape parameter : sawtooth and triangle are a unique waveform with a different shape setting, so you can program morphing betwwen them with LFOs or what you want. You can use an external signal as a source and make it interact with the other waveforms via FM or ring modulator.
Filters are good too, BPF have 1 to 8 poles modes with resonance, BPF, HPF, Formant modes and an ARP2600 filter emulation.
As in the other program types, you have 32 modulation sources to assign to the destinations you want, with the limitation of 8 enveloppes and 8 LFOs. In FM mode, you have 6 operators with classic feedback and interaction capabilities.
Due to the 8 envelopes, I think it's less flexible than a Yamaha DX, but here you can pogram 16 layers mixes with program using every synthesis.
I am considering buying a fusion. If i remeber correctly, when i tried it at the store it took a very long time to open different mode, scroll through patches, and edit. Is this right?
The Fusion loads sounds in RAM memory when it is necessary, so when you navigate in the banks with a 64MB version (memory is expandable to 192MB), you often need to wait few seconds to load the samples. With FM, analog or modelling patches, loading is direct. In the config menu, there's also an option for choosing between maximum polyphony and loading time.
You can have up to 16 parts in mix mode. Each part can have its own keyboard range, plus an alternative range (velocity, mod wheel, pitch wheel, control pedal...). You also have 4 arpeggiators, 4 insert effects and two bus effects. If you consider the Fusion's extended polyphony, mixes can be very complex.
For anyone thinking of buying a Fusion all I can say is don't listen to the negative comments. Nearly all the issues that originally caused problems were eliminated in the latest OS patch. For the money it is an absolute bargain! I picked up my 6HD for only £250/$500 and it's the best synth purchase I have ever made. This thing is so versatile I can't see me ever parting with it :)
And every negative comment is based on comparisons with synths costing two our three times more than the Fusion. You can't compare the Fusions with stuff like Triton LE, Juno G or MO6, it's way better and more professional.
Someone asked about the Fusion price. It's dirt cheap these days as high end workstation prices go. It's DEEPLY discounted, less than $1000 US for the 88 key version. Cheaper than Triton, Fantom and Motif.
Supposedly the latest OS fixed many of the earlier issues.
...and you can listen to some demos on the "Alesis dot com" website. There are some cool pieces of solo piano played by rich menga (he has some videos about the Fusion on Youtube, too).
For the piano sounds, the Fusion uses samples. There isn't any modelling like in the ProMega, for instance. Onboard pianos are nice with a realistic sustain and good hammer sound, but you can import your own sammples too. Memory is limited to 192Mb with the optional memory expansion (64Mb standard), so you can have very detailed sounds if you have time to program them.
The only problem I have is an overheating due to my attic-studio's location : in summer I often had more than 35°C and one of the encoders behave abnormally in this case. I solved this issue by adding a second fan inside of the synth.
Very good cover !! Can you give a Tab at 1.38 to 1.54 ..please thank you

Hey man, this sounds great. I'm having trouble learning the sampler on my 6HD and I was wondering if you'd be willing to offer some tips?

Did you perform an item verify on samples and multisamples after recording ?

No I didn't. How is that done?

@Deweak Ok, I think I'm making headway with the sampling on my Fusion. If you're willing, I have a couple of other questions for you.

Awesome man - I've got a MO6 and am learning how to play it - what would be a good way to learn it?

Work and train you ear ! For the technical stuff, it's not a difficult song.

I went into town today and demo'd one of the Fusions. Loved it. I have one being delivered tomorrow (6th Feb)

im planning on getting a small synth.
i've narrowed to to either the fusion 6hd or the vsynth (doesn't matter if it's gt or not)
having not played on a fusion, how good is it?

For you guys, who have the fusion, a little question. How complex split keyboarding and layering can you do on this godly synth?

is the alesis fusion worth the price?? nice playing by the way.

If it was two times more expensive, it would still be worth the price :-)
