  • Hah... that's Joe Fussel conducting. He was the baritone soloist in Star 93, if anyone it interested.

  • and who is tagging that G at the end...must be Rick...lol

  • I wish they still played Rocky Point like this. With the release and not all cutesy and soft on the last measure.

  • It's too fast. If they're going to play - play it like 1983.

  • haha fucking tubas man :)

  • lmao at :44 "holla!"

  • Fantastic intonation, tone quality, volume, unified sound. Just amazing. And those releases! And where do they find mello players like that?

  • @bobareebop well, i'll tell you where they prolly don't get them. they don't port them from trumpets like every band on earth does....

  • That cutoff before the last section was sick!!! I loved it!

  • early entrance at :27?

  • @yuvizal nope....mello just cracked and dropped down a partial

  • @jts5032

    makes sense

  • @yuvizal Good ear, never noticed that before.

  • best version of rocky point holiday ever. Period

  • @TUBASTEVE no. this one is!!! youtubeDOTCOM/watch?v=bXGhQE7mQ4c

  • OM Jesus! Incredible sound.

  • that was sick.good job cadets.

  • the contras were redic

  • fuck that release at the end is like falling off a cliff...perfect.

  • that cut off was sick!

    I love the cadets!

  • FUCKING MELLOS!

  • '83!!!!

  • wow they did this song really fast

  • "Halla!"

  • contras= stellar

  • This is my ringtone on my phone.

  • @dentalfloss1 All that power coming out of a cell phone speaker must sound like MUSH... In trying to explain Drum Corps to my boys, I hooked up my PC to the 600 Watt Home Theater system and cranked this!!! Blew their shoes off... lol

  • man, you can hear those contras lol

  • Did someone say " Balla! " at the end? haha

  • i think it was halla

  • o my godddd! that was sick. :0

  • I wish I could wake up to that every morning. No like literally, I wish the whole Cadet drum and bugle corps was in my bedroom to wake me up with this every morning. Just imagine it.

  • You would go deaf very quick.

  • worth it

  • is it me or is this the version on youtube? does the release at the false end give anyone else the shivers?

  • Does me!

  • lol...typical marching band style.

    super technique and super loud

  • But this is a Drum Corps. Not only super loud, but super good.

Plus those releases... they make you want to die.

And of course watching Gino conduct.

  • if this is 2002, its not Gino up there. Not sure is, but not Gino

  • Not sure who it is*

  • i know it was a month ago, but the Cadets are not a marching band, it's a drum corps. I hate to be so knitpicky, but we take a lot of pride in being a corps.

  • Perfect releases.

    No pitch discrepancies.

    Crystal clear.

    Attitude.

This is why I'm a Cadet.

  • Yes, yes, yes, yes, and YES! Good for you - you are right to be proud!

  • Just an amazing brass line. I prefer the original key with the G horns, though.

  • does anyone have this sheet music?

  • insane.

    who is conducting?

  • Looks like Gino Cipriani, the brass caption head.

  • Comment removed

  • It isn't Gino, he wasn't with the cadets in 2002. Wayne Dillon was the caption head that year.

  • Whoa - did somebody radically anticipate the attack at :27? Major hose-age!

  • HOLA!

  • They are probably the only corp ive seen that does not do that dip move when they play loud..

  • Lead Baritones at 0:38...love it.

  • I just love the Moving Part by the Mellophones.

  • one hell of a wall of sound O.o good lord lol

  • the mellos are sick...oh my goodness. Amazing sound

  • Comment removed

  • I saw them live, and the chances of getting in are slim, because they are sooo selective. I thought they were much bigger

  • The chance of getting in the Cadets isn't really all that slim. Although you do need a certain amount of talent on your instrument of choice, they look for determination and attitude most of all. I know, I've been to their auditions. I know a kid I went to high school with that was almost impossible to teach but marched an open class corps and is now in the Cadets. Work hard, and you'll be there. If you're a snare....work harder.

  • lol about the snare part

  • THIS blows ur FACE away , ITs what the CADETs and DCI are all about.

listen to the 1983 Live CD and you will fell it .

  • this song is so bloody epic when played by DCI. if i had to try out for a corps for their hornline, this would be one of them, along with phantom regiment and carolina crown. (i play trumpet, btw)

  • it's tough without perc

  • dang, i wish the version my high school band is playing was this hard....

  • lol and if we had those amazing cutoffs.

  • fuck i know at my school there are ppl who arent serious about band and they keep playing at the cutoff and i get soooo pissed

  • my HS this year did almost excactly the same, we're not that big, but indoors we get the chills going.

  • Let me say that I am not a "This I Believe" Cadets fan......however.....25 years later and I am still waiting for somebody to provide me with the amount of goosebumps this production has provided me with over the years. Unreal.

  • They are watching the conductor really well.

  • you must play flute.

  • is there any such thing?

  • yea well u know everything that a corp plays is brassy cause well yea. there brass lol.

  • did neone else hear the 9 chord they could've put at the end

  • it is in there...just listen to the screaming trumpet

    lol

  • OMG LISTEN TO THOSE CUTOFFS!!!!

  • My band is playing this and the music from August as contest pieces during marching season

  • August Rush

  • OH MY CRAPPING GOSH. i LOVE AUGUST RUSH. are they playing that???

  • no its rocky point holiday

  • My band gets to do this song for their halftime show =) im excited

  • i hope its not this alone otherwise it'd be the worlds shortest halftime show

  • Haha...but if played that well, the world's best halftime show.

  • THAT IS AS CLEAN AS IT GETS!

  • Really?

  • O rly?

  • I'll take 1983 ;)

  • I have the music =)Only for mello though

  • REALLY?!? Thats the part i enjoy the most its friggin badass any way i could get it?

  • sure it might take some time but if you can trust me enough to message me your email i can try to scan it and send it to you.

  • ok cool i sent you a message

  • can you send me a copy too? lol

  • I've transcribed it and so can you - its not that hard. Plus, it will help develop your ear.

  • well you didnt transpose it for mello, that is just about impossible

  • Does anyone know were you can get music for this. the horn part to be exact lol! please let me know!

  • Holy CRAP those releases are clean!

  • My god I know!

  • Now boys and girls... thats is as clean as it gets!

  • this song gets me so hype lol i love it dude

  • Bring back the G!!!

  • i want this video on my ipod!

  • One of their best shows.....gotta love it

    Brings back memories......

  • Very nice!!

  • My marching band is doing Rocky pt. Holiday this year woo hoo!!

  • OMG!when I marched my freshman year in high school, we did rocky point holiday. but this is way better.

  • not much of a cadet man.. but damn... beautiful.. anyway i can put this on my zune??

  • I wish there was... This is the best vid of Rocky Point and I don't think we can with a Zune!

  • i figured out how, but you have to download the video..

  • lol that mellophone blip thing is hilarious

  • i wish there was a close up of the the mellos playing at :21 there friggn amazing!

  • thats friggin awesome.

    best ive heard :]

  • that is AMAAAAAZING!!!

  • Almost as blast-happy as the original. Sweet except for the blip.

  • I cringed when I heard the blip.

Just as much as anyone, I love the solid hornline sounds, but my face didn't contort for nothing. Heh.

  • yeah, i heard it! man mellophones suck!!!

  • ooh, there was a blip in there, wasnt there?

  • the '83 version was better, it sounds higher and less muddy; higher is always better!

  • is it just me or did I hear a blip around :25? heheh. A mellophone blip.

  • I really hate hearing this piece played on those B flat horns. It sounds so low and muddy. The G bugles had such a bright unique sound to them. Go back and compare this sound with the 83 video. just my opinion. I marched 83 garfield so I'm a little bias.

  • Well, somebody had to say it. Maybe the evolution of the activity has gotten a few steps off track...

  • Hell yea! Music is cool!

  • wanna see where 'rocky point' got its start? do a youtube search on 'garfield cadets 1983' and check out the z-pull or what we used to call the 'garfield noodle' - one of the unforgetable highlights of drum corps history - a masterpiece of drill designed by george zengali that would begin a rennaisance that evolved into the state of the art that we are enjoying today.

  • This clip was taken in the summer of 2002, while performing at a Music Is Cool clinic. This is the Rocky Point brass exercise they used. You can hear the 4th bass, ahmed, yell "holla" at the end of it... it's 02, trust me. The next year, 2003, we used it in our show as our closer, a tribute to the Cadets' first title in 1983, in which they used Rocky Point.

  • Just crapped my pants...

  • two words... HOL-Y SHI-T...

  • um... it's more famous for being the opener 20 years earlier. You have to imagine it with EAST EAST EAST being chanted in the background.

  • no you dummy it was there closer in 03 trust me i know like three people who marched that year

  • well, as long as you know people in the corps. n00b.

  • this was their closer in '02, The opener was "Fanfare and Allegro" followed by "Malaguena" and then "Rocky Point Holiday".

  • FUCK YEA!!

  • I love the ending!! Those loud ass fuckin chords!!

  • this is my all time favorite opener!!

  • Awesome brass sound! OMFG so great and big!

  • holy crap monkeys, flippin awesome

  • Awesome, that was my rookie year... =]

  • Awesome

  • I love this clip!

  • I have been looking everywhere for this. Thanks for posting it. Awesome. My favorite opener of all time.
