@dentalfloss1 All that power coming out of a cell phone speaker must sound like MUSH... In trying to explain Drum Corps to my boys, I hooked up my PC to the 600 Watt Home Theater system and cranked this!!! Blew their shoes off... lol
I wish I could wake up to that every morning. No like literally, I wish the whole Cadet drum and bugle corps was in my bedroom to wake me up with this every morning. Just imagine it.
i know it was a month ago, but the Cadets are not a marching band, it's a drum corps. I hate to be so knitpicky, but we take a lot of pride in being a corps.
The chance of getting in the Cadets isn't really all that slim. Although you do need a certain amount of talent on your instrument of choice, they look for determination and attitude most of all. I know, I've been to their auditions. I know a kid I went to high school with that was almost impossible to teach but marched an open class corps and is now in the Cadets. Work hard, and you'll be there. If you're a snare....work harder.
this song is so bloody epic when played by DCI. if i had to try out for a corps for their hornline, this would be one of them, along with phantom regiment and carolina crown. (i play trumpet, btw)
Let me say that I am not a "This I Believe" Cadets fan......however.....25 years later and I am still waiting for somebody to provide me with the amount of goosebumps this production has provided me with over the years. Unreal.
I really hate hearing this piece played on those B flat horns. It sounds so low and muddy. The G bugles had such a bright unique sound to them. Go back and compare this sound with the 83 video. just my opinion. I marched 83 garfield so I'm a little bias.
wanna see where 'rocky point' got its start? do a youtube search on 'garfield cadets 1983' and check out the z-pull or what we used to call the 'garfield noodle' - one of the unforgetable highlights of drum corps history - a masterpiece of drill designed by george zengali that would begin a rennaisance that evolved into the state of the art that we are enjoying today.
This clip was taken in the summer of 2002, while performing at a Music Is Cool clinic. This is the Rocky Point brass exercise they used. You can hear the 4th bass, ahmed, yell "holla" at the end of it... it's 02, trust me. The next year, 2003, we used it in our show as our closer, a tribute to the Cadets' first title in 1983, in which they used Rocky Point.
Hah... that's Joe Fussel conducting. He was the baritone soloist in Star 93, if anyone it interested.
