@qazaqz Theres only one line of 80GB models that share the same drive as the 60GB, Since you say that you have the same ps3 as mine, I presume the same prefix? then its a 100% no to your question, the drive from the 60GB will not work. so please follow the link in my description, cross check the model (prefix) starting with 'CECH' which is found on the bottom of your ps3 and so on to find out what exact drive you need for your ps3.

@mobarakeh Yes, if you replace the drive you have now (assuming its faulty) with a 'new' drive, then it will play all the media that its supposed to regardless (so yes, games and everything)

@INumquamI Flip the slim over and on the under belly there should be a model no. for example mine starts with CECH- then click on the link in my description and cross check your model number with my compatibility chart

@MrBuddyPalace Hey, click on the link in the description to the Compatibility chart and confirm with what you bought bro - My ps3 model here is the CECHK (80GB PS3), so the Blu-ray Laser inside the drive that will work with it would be the KES-410 model (with the standard ribbon cable).

My little brother shoved a PSP UMD inside my ps3. I took it apart and got the disc out but while doing that I busted the ribbon cable at 0:37 AND the place that it connects to inside the drive. :(. Should've been more careful. I'm thinking of sending it to E starland for them to repair/replace the part for me. How much would it cost to replace a laser mech? What about the entire blu ray drive? I have a fat PS3 80gb 2 usb port. Thanks in advance!

@redhotchiliandy Sorry bro, You can't replace the blu ray drive from a Slim console with a drive fom a Phat. Use the compatibility chart linked above for more details

@deathsaurer95 Check and see what model number your ps3 is (then cross check that model by using the Compatibility chart that i linked in the description of this video) with the type of lens that is installed that model to find out

when i start my game up, my ps3 drive makes this really really loud crackling noise. my ps3 can read the disks because i see the title of the game pop up on the XMB bar. This is a weird problem, i tried to put in nba 2k11 and black ops, but my ps3 would make a really loud noise and screen would stay black. Just today i bought a brand new copy of Gran Turismo 5, and the same problem happened. All those games dont work, but for some reason my Red Dead Redemption works.

Is it my Blu Ray Drive?

@tranxxaction Hm ..do any of the disc appear to have scratches or marks on them after you have put them into the ps3? and can you also make sure if its the disc drive itself making the noise or its the fan/ hard drive (even low hdd space), i doubt there would be dust inside the drive but maybe you might just need to do the Restore File System wich checks for corrupt/missing system files

@SHOGUN019 actually yes. i do see a straight line of dust after ejecting the disks. i've done ever possible thing i could do. i reformatted the hard drive, restore file system, and a full system restore, but still no solution. i get an error code 80010006, i went on google and it says something about file corruption.

I still have my old 40 gig ps3 that's broken with the HDD in there, do i you think i can use my HDD from my old ps3 and replace my current HDD?

@tranxxaction so you did do the Restore File System through the recovery menu ?

(when PS3 is turned off > hold the power button & PS3 goes on then powers off while your still holding the button > then once more press and hold the power button till you hear 2 quick beeps, then let go as soon as you hear that for the recover menu?) if it doesn't let you do the restore then its your hdd

yes you can use the 40GB, before putting in your old HDD try the above followed by a manual system update

was thinking about replacing just the diodes, or the laser device, but the best thing would be to replace the whole drive. but, i cant find any.. where did u get urs?

@Jakkl No problem, i got mine from jackofallgames.co.uk, i just went with the 'not much work to do' option and bought the entire drive other than replacing the diode alone

@Jakkl i changed the PCB board so that the PS3 system can recognise the new Blu-ray lens, so you will need to swap the PCB board over from your old drive (as they are assigned to that ps3), you will need to do this for it to be recognised and work in your PS3.

I would advise you to just replace the Drive instead of replacing the lens alone if you feel that something might go wrong. plus the complete drives are not so expensive (mine was £59 including delivery)
