Nice work Don. I found some good voices for the VL-70 years ago. I can't recall where I found them (Patchman maybe?) I have a Pat Metheny guitar voice and a synth string ensemble voice that I use most of the time. I find that most of the VL70 sax, bass and horn voices are very good. The flute voices leave a lot to be desired.
Good Job! I have a Yamaha wx5 Just like the one you have. I love it. I see you also have a Yamaha VL70m Virtual acoustic tone generator. Are you playing with the original sound files. I hear you can get the VL70 juiced up somewhere. If you know where I would love to know.
Great job, this is incredible how you sound realistic with that midi wind controller. By the way, would you mind to share a few midi sax. files ? I got some good sax presets but don't have any wind controller for the moment and when i try to play sax with my keyboard, it doesn't sound realistic @ all ...
That's honestly the best sax I've heard come out of a box. I've been screwing around with the VL in my EX5R, but none of what I can get is really that nice. Did you make that patch yourself?
Great sound. They have come mighty close, but still nothing like an old mark VI.
Can you save the midi signal from the controller and use the sound generator (VL-70) within your DAW, or is playing live analog the only way to use this setup?
Bought my Mark VI in 1973 (tenor). Still have it. Still love it. WX5 will behave the same way as any midi controller as long as the parameters are set correctly. Thanks.
Please help me to understand. If I buy one of these then do I also need to buy a midi controller? How much are they? Do I need a specific one or will any type do? How about the one on my electronic keyboard?
The WX-5 is a MIDI controller.. makes no sound..need to control a tone module..Yamaha made the VL70m tone module to pair up with it..both on Ebay around $800...getting a good sound easy without having to develop 'chops'.. can approx clarinet, flute, or sax fingerings. EWI4000s is $700 with tone mod built in hard to play. I like my WX-5+VL70m sounds better. If your keybord has [MIDI in] the WX-5 can trigger it but results vary. Want info links? Email 1000tuna@youtube.
The WX 5 is gr8 instrument One problem in many of its modes its just to realistic. i.e. the violin its like trying to play the acoustic instrument. Once mastered the sound is very realistic.
nice jazzy playing, good sound, you seem quite octave constrained, especially towards the start, i think you should phrase across the whole range of the instrument a bit more... nice all the same though... better than me on my 4000s. And i DO like the patch
hi mrs bematola, very beutiful . i m orantes ,please you can help me? i have yamaha wx 5 i k dont no to seting this instrument .we can thalk ? i wait unswered please thank you
That Brecker patch with the Turbo Chip sounds GREAT! I picked up a WX5 for cheap, and have never heard that turbo chip sound so great. I've Matt's site also. I am a guitarist by the way...and have NO idea how to play sax..but one day. Great video!
Hi,really nice.I wanted to ask you about the VL70-m and the patches it comes with, are they nice?Does it have electric guitar, bass, keyboard patches?how you wire up your WX-VL70 set up?Thanks
The stock patches are pretty nice. I do believe that the Turbo Chip that is installed in my VL70m modules is an upgrade - particularly, the sax patches. There are a couple of nice lead. guitars and some really good basses on the stock VL70m. Nice analog synth-like patches, but not so much organs or e.pianos. I either plug in the front of the unit with a WX cable, which powers the WX5, or insert batteries and run wireless midi with a MidiJet Pro.
hi mrs bematola i have yamaha wx 5 i dont no to seting thid instrument you can help me ? we can thalk from web cam ? me mesenger adrres is viorelraducanu 2007

The WX5 is the controler, with the WX5 you will need a module like the Yamaha VL70M
