  • Believe me, most black folk, myself included, would like that too.

  • Is it just me or does opening with "talented young black man" unnecessary? I would've thought "talented young man" was easily sufficient.

    Other than that, I agree for the most part. Although I didn't like him very much personally, clearly he was a talented entertainer.

  • Michael Jackson being black is part of what and who he is. His race isn't the cause of his success or acclaim but there are many intersections of race and his career and life.

  • Absolutely being black is part of who he is. I'll tell you what else is part of who he is - being an American citizen, being a heterosexual... the list could go on almost indefinitely.

    All I was saying is that opening with "talented young black man" is unnecessary. I wouldn't open with "talented young white man" when describing Pete Sampras.

    It really isn't a big deal, I'd just prefer to treat everyone the same way is all.
