  • Many fond memories of being a kid and watching this while my folks waited in line for plane tickets. I think that, now, if I were to fly out on my own, I would make sure I got there extra extra early so I could stare and listen to it.

  • great job

  • MOUSETRAP!!!

  • wicked

  • noise machine.

  • sounds like the begining of pink floyd - time

  • it sounds like electroplankton lol

  • theres in new york city times sqaure port authority last time i seen it i was off and in the presbitarian hospitol in manhattan like on 175 i think

  • Been there! Done that! These kinda things are all over boston! You should have seen the one in the science museum. Its a whole floor tall and its right in front of a huge window looking out over the harbor. btw, its not really meant to be an instrument, persay, just a contraption.

  • oh and there is also another one in childrens hospital.

  • It is called, the "Gleischemgekt" which in Danish literally translates to "Sin Cannon"....believe me...I know why... As it stands there are only a few of these remaining in the world and are kept under special care and maintenance. In some parts of the world archaeologists are excavating what appears to be remains of these "Gleischemgektes"... it seriously makes you question why this shit is so top secret. Could it be? That these "Gleischemgekest" posess bizarre and mysterious powers?!

  • @Tahlock

Gleischemgekt is German... Gleishce meens glass I think...

  • they have one of those in the childrens hospital in boston too.

  • hahahaha!

  • I haven't seen these since my childhood...

I've flown a lot as a kid and used to watch these all the time while waiting in the terminals.

This is the one w/ the bowling ball XD

    Thanks for posting this.

  • Omg same!! I used to come here all the time, and we wouldn't fly! we would just walk around the airport. And i love the bowling ball. Apparently when i went last (couple months ago) one of the chain lifts wasnt working. I dont know if they have fixed it.

  • It's Called Excercise in Fugality. It's a kinetic sculpture built in 1986. I think you shot this when it was in terminal C. Now they have moved it to terminal E. It was built by George Rhoads.

  • Wow! Thanks for your comment, and It's very helpful. :D

  • if u worked there that thing must get annoying.

  • Here's a discussion page about it, with info and links about the creator and some others. Called kinetic sculptures or rolling ball sculptures.
