I'm not trying to defend the cop, and if you know me, you know that i hate cops more than most, but i think this video shows the stressfull nature of his job. First off, the officer is at a bar drunk ( one way to deal with stress) and joking about something is usually a way to release stress because in most good humor, it comes from uneasiness. Many officers joke about things they see because its a very intense job and you have to deal with the stress somehow.

This is an utter disgrace, I too have friends and a family member who are police officers and they too were disgusted at this video, to say that this is gallows humor is garbage, being a member of the U.S. Armed Forces we were always taught to be humble in Victory, you do NOT MOCK THE DEAD AND THE VANQUISHED. I have witnessed this type of behavior where I used to live in a somewhat upscale community and it is a classic example of poor screening of people who are given a badge and a gun.

I need to say something in defense of police officers.
I have close friends that are cops and I know that 'gallows humor' is a way for them to release the stress & horror of what they see and deal with often.
This officer was in a small group of people who he seems to know pretty well, and he shouldn't have expected his comments to have been recorded & released where the victims loved one's would hear it.
SHAME on whoever released this!

None of the others were cops. They've all been identified. This was a public bar (Treehouse Tavern) and he knew the camera was on.
Who "blows off steam" by lying about Tasering someone, anyway? What law-abiding cop drives home drunk, as he admitted to?
Cops blow off steam all the time. 99% of them know when and where to do it.

Maybe this cop is an alcoholic scumbag, I don't know. That's the point, we don't know all the facts. All we hear is what is on the video and what the media & bloggers are saying, and let's face it, they never tell the WHOLE truth.
I knew a cop who scared me. He'd always be wasted & loved firing his gun. One day, he shot his partner in the head, execution style. Now he's in prison.
There are bad cops out there, but it's up to internal affairs to investigate, not us without all the facts.

The investigation started with the investigator IA and Officer Funnybone here paying a visit *at work* to the brother of the man who posted it, to threaten wiretap charges if it wasn't taken down. That's not investigating the incident, that's called trying to sweep it under the rug.
Why isn't it OK to judge him on the actions you can plainly see, but *you* can judge the recorder?

What's interesting here is that this cop (and presumably many others like him) have no fucking empathy for other people. Even the kids mom. He just doesn't give a fuck. And his employers motto is "to protect and serve." Yeah I feel a lot safer with this douche bag on the streets. How the fuck is he still holding a job? The police are out of control and I'll tell you what. I have no sympathy when some nut case goes postal and kills a bunch of them. No sympathy at all.
