Have been reading the comment thread, I was not only a judge, but in The Lowell Street Band that won 1st place two years ago. All the bands were very good sounding, depends on what you like. Not all the bands were entertaining, or held the attention of the audience. The bands were to be judged on a myriad of aspects, sounding good was only part of it.

Name, schmame so what? Recess Bullies is a way cool name, AND they deserved to win!!!

An anchor baby is in the urban dictionary , very excess-able. And Mr Kyro, of the Recess bullies, I Especially enjoyed that you couldn't pull the plug on Mike Curto, of Anchor Baby, like you did at Rockfest in January of 2011. You had to stand there and watch a talented man play. You Couldn't be a bully at Battle of the band in Asland, except for a few weak off color jokes. I enjoyed every moment of this day, Watching my man Sing! Ciao

I still think the "Recess Bullies" and "Anchor Baby" names are simply silly\lame band names. Recess Bullies is both childish & mean sounding and what on earth is an Anchor Baby? Are they nautical infants? :p I feel a seriously good band should have a simple yet meaningful name. If I had never heard either band before, both are great, I just wouldn't be interested cuz they sound like kids named the band!

A 20 point difference in any contest is huge! I didn't Recess Bullies were gimmicky. They sounded great and entertained everyone. If the clean up crew was angry then oh well, it's their job, nothing a broom can't handle! ;)

I will say this, my girlfriends and I were discussing all the band names and we decided White Ties (?) and S.W.A.T. had the best band names! The 1st and 2nd place bands Recess Bullies and Anchor Baby had the most ridiculous names! No offense guys but seriously, for as good as you were is that the best you could come up with, really?! If we never heard either of you before we'd probably wouldn't think twice about coming out to hear you. The names just don't convey "kick ass rocker dudes". More l

@5ofNov - I'm sure there are reason's for the RB & AB names. Maybe there's a story behind them that we're unaware of. I disagree with you though that they are ridiculous. They're not. Clever names if you ask me. S.W.A.T. is a great band name, but does it stand for anything?

This is awkward.... I'm the drummer for Recess Bullies and I don't know who's posting the other stuff LOL I'm flattered and bummed all at once. No one puts too much stock into these battles. All of the bands were very good and we're glad we finally won after taking 2nd the past 2 years is all I can say. It's kind of funny that bands are like the only profession that they pit against each other. How come they don't have Mechanics or Accountants battling it out?! LOL

SWAT is a very good band but the band that won, Recess Bullies, deserved to win because they played a variety of great rock music and they sounded awesome!! Their stage show was great. SWAT band members pretty much just stood there, like most bands, and didn't do much. The backups were rather shotty too. The lead singer was good though. Recess Bullies deserved to win and apparently the judged thought so too. So, the girl who posted the first comment clearly does not have a clear perspective on

@5ofNov - Forgot to say one thing...They may have played a variety of music, but I think that their stage show was a little too gimmicky (for my taste). Plus, they made a huge mess with whatever that stuff was that was all over the stage & floor. I could see the irritated look on the people's faces that were cleaning up the mess between bands. They weren't happy about it at all. Keep in mind, too, that I believe the announcer said they only won by a matter of 20 points or so.

@ckyro121 They were awesome! Much better than the band that won!!! But, oh well. Hopefully they come back next year along with the other bands that didn't win.
