  • 1:30 1:40 o.O

  • man I wish they went into double time at 7:30

  • From the opening line... To the end chord... I had shivers. RIP SRV.

  • The one and only at his best

  • I'm beginning to get a feeling for what it must be like to get raped! He's raping that guitar. Fantastic!!

  • This is, in my opinion, the greatest thing he ever did.Jjust sublime! You want blues with passion, panache and precision? Here it is...

  • Everything I love about the Blues & SRV in this performance...the passion, the soul...the emotion....and the guitar...wow...wow...wow

  • HOLY SHIT! All i have to say!

  • Crazy acoustic

  • It should not even be disputed. This is and always will be the best synergy of soul and skill anyone will ever see in their lifetime. Regardless of who picks up a guitar. A savant, an alien? Jesus, who the f%^K cares. He is without doubt a master of his domain.

  • The Greatest MotherF#$*&r To Ever Strap on a Guitar.RIP SRV,We Still Love You!!

  • 2 people missed the like button

  • These two people are absolutely crazy, Stevie is definitely the best guitarist ever. He has never been equaled, and it will probably not happen, because to be one "with your guitar is a dream.

  • 2 peope have disliked this?? WTF?!?!? REALLY????

  • He is a beast.

  • um....................................

  • I just started to really listen to this man's music and also the Brothers Vaughn and poof that August we we lost him along with some of Clapton's people-- and then later I went down to Austin and went to his 'home bar' and had a chance to pay tribute to a true legend....Shar xo

  • in the zone!!

  • It's like a constant solo.

    He is so fucken awesome!

  • Amazing !!

  • ____________________________!!!

  • If I believed in the afterlife I'd say Stevie and Jimi would be jamming for the rest of eternity.

  • WOW, one of the best live performances i've seen by anybody, ever. i can't describe how that blew my mind so i won't even try...just amazing

  • That was a hell of an inspired night for Stevie. Oh boy, what a fluid solo plenty of colorfull notes without a single hesitation. He knew where to go with his fingers on that bridge to give this version a unique source of inspiration, passion and dreams. SRV is not only providing amazing blues music, but also a very good source of leasons learned regarding life, and demonstrating that drugs and alcohol have nothing to do with this. He said it. RIP SRV

  • EASILY THE BEST BLUES GUITARIST OF ALL TIME!!!

  • And what kills me is that I lived in Toronto when he was playing at the El Mo and for some reason, I didn't go even thought I meant to. One of the biggest regrets I have.

  • best guitar player besides Jimi Hendrix of all time, in my estimation.

  • @vitorbelfort *strat rulzz*

  • Toronto hosts the best small venue concerts ever! Proof is in the pudding

  • Damn. .. <3

  • What amp would this hero be playing? oO Fender Twin Hot Rod, perhaps?

  • @GoodFortuneOfficial No... a fortex 600 german 10gig 2.gz micro fibre blast tongue with six inch grafting gage

    made with 24 carrot gold...

  • @DarkEgg5 Hmm.. By any chance, got a spare for me?

  • @GoodFortuneOfficial Tits or gtfo

  • @DarkEgg5 Tits it is!

  • @GoodFortuneOfficial ( . Y . )

  • fuck just imagine being there

  • El Mocombo..China town..Toronto Canada...Was at his show in Edmonton Alberta,,Same tour..Makes his guitar TALK..The master..RIP..!!!!!

  • Got this on VHS when I was 14 and I wore out the tape just watching it over and over again. It still thrills me to point where my heart literally hurts watching it. There will never be another Stevie - our pride and joy.

  • PURE, RAW EMOTION & SOUL ! You can actually see when the spirit of Hendrix enters his body @ 3:50 ! Most guitarists can't play HALF as well in front as he did behind his back !!!

  • 1 no me gusta, no porque realmente no me guste, sino porque un me gusta más no habría destacado en los que ya tiene ¡Éste tio sigue siendo el puto amo! Lo que realmente no me gusta es que ya no esté.

A "dislike", not because I do not really like it, but because a "like" would not make the difference. This guy is still fucking God! I do not really like he is gone.

  • hat 3 story climb to get in from street level, the damn 7 foot bouncers at the top, who were more than happy to fire anybody down so they rolled out onto Spadina Ave. That club was what Stevie Ray were all about. It was a blues shrine.

I saw a lot of guys live in my day. Hendrix, Cream at the Rock Pile. The Band at the Nickelodian backing up Ronnie Hawkins. Neil Young, Joe Walsh. But nobody came close to Stevie Ray.

  • Hey Gasper, it was THE blues club in TO for decades. Buddy Guy, Jr Wells onharp, Sonny Terry & Brownie MacGee, Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, all played there. Wayne Cochrane, big white haired dude outta Miami, I was sitting at a table on the wall one night, all 6 foot 6 of Cochrane came flying of the stage and landed on our damn table, busted it up like kindling, he never missed a note.

  • he played in el mocambo? that place is the size of a washroom lol

  • 0 dislikes. Awesome. I don't mean to sound like an idiot but his tone and playing here seriously give me shivers. This is amazing.

  • I have an old VHS tape of the el Mocambo gig, that's how long I've been watching this performance, yet, it still stands out as one of the very few performances I never tire of. It just doesn't get any better than this. Period. Rest in peace Stevie Ray, we all miss you.

  • The greatest piece of guitar work ever captured on film. By the greatest guitarist ever. Period.

  • what exactly can you say??.... a Master at work... the blues king !!

nobody can compare in his style of music .. the best blues guitarist who ever lived

  • why do all the great guitarists die in AIr based accidents ?

  • Imagine that you've got to play your set just after him LOL

  • we're performing here tomorrow!! WOOT. Our first ever show ever was here as well.

  • Hes even good in 240p! haha amazing :)

  • Seems to lack feelin? Maybe your posting on the wrong song or i really hope its a joke post lol.

  • @1976mygirl OK- maybe a touch of sarcasm.

  • Seems to lack feeling.

  • @booifojoe you must be watching a different video.

  • Stevie's powerful playing reminds me of how it might sound to hear an 800 pound gorilla channeling Jesus Christ playing the Blues on an electric guitar.

  • This is the most awesome performance in all of music ! 20+ years after hearing it for the first time it STILL gives me chills & stands my hair on end everytime ! There will never be another !

  • i saw stevie in NYC around 88. He had just finished playing the Garden with Jeff Beck and came to the show I was at, which was a blues festival, featuring Buddy guy, John Lee Hooker, the Fabulous T Birds to close. Well, on comes the MC to announce a special guest backstage. Out walks Stevie, all sweaty as hell. He says hi to his brother Jimmy, and the band launches into the Things I Used to do.Crowd goes fucking ballistic. Stevies first note erases everything we'd heard for the last 3 hrs.

  • I know the people at this gig knew they saw magic, but they would never have known...

  • This video is the reason I started playing guitar. My older brother had it. When I was about 13 I became obsessed with SRV. I'm now 31 and have grown away from the style. But seriously still deep in my heart he's my favorite. Especially this performance of Texas Flood. THE BEST!!!

  • Un-freaking-believable. I've watched this guy for years, have many of his recordings, yet this one smacked me upside the head. Wow. Nothing else to say. Go Stevie.

  • Genius.

  • I always find it funny how this honky white guy shows up and completely changes the face of the blues. That definitely showed that you don't gotta have worked on a plantation to pour all your heart and soul out into a guitar and blow away millions.. I can feel his sorrow in every note. Pain and Suffering sure does have a great tone.

  • Another unsolicited observation: Stevie Ray covered Hendrix better than anyone else. Who has covered a stevie ray song ? (covered well, I mean). If he'd survived, I can only dream about the body of work he would have created.

  • its not surprising that when you search on youtube of other bands or musicians messing up you will find some, but when you search for SRV mess ups you never ever ever ever ever find a single one! that's how amazing this legend is!!

R.I.P Stevie Ray Vaughan. you are in our hearts forever!

  • ok I'm gonna get the hate messages, but I watch this and wonder what all the fuss is about Clapton! I don't get it and don't think Clapton has a sniff at playing like this...bring it on.

  • @mrclean67 Ur right dude clapton is good but dont deserve all is Fame and good words ! HE should have been the one in the helicopter not stevie

  • @avenger4546 - you're reading it wrong, Clapton deserves every bit of fame and success, we're lucky to have him...BUT......I do not understand why people think Clapton is a guitar god? At least not compared to what I am seeing in this video..

  • wonder how many bets Stevie won saying " I could play better than you with my hands behind my back".......ha.......this is incredible.

  • thats how you place 4 pentatonics on a single key tune. incredible. ("G"; C; D; A)

  • tommy's face at like 1 20 is awesome

  • It must have been really hard for his band mates to look at Stevie rays guitar sitting on a stand after he died . i would cry especially that signature strat

  • Dude was not human. Vai, malmsteen, anyone else has NOTHING!

  • My Fav!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The best ever! Rip stevie!

  • why is there no "f.....ing love!" button?, "Like" does not cut it here, I have this DVD The first DVD I ever bought (to replace my VHS version) it will be in my coffin when I leave this life

  • This prooves that white man can be as spiritual as black man.

Do you undestand why he was so fan of Hendrix ?

    They're together now !

  • @PetiteFleurYue When asked the question, Stevie said that he wanted to be remembered for taking the color out of the blues. Let's honor his memory.

  • besides.. how the heck would you write that stuff down... you just dont bother

  • I remember watching this and taping it when it first aired in the 80's. Still have the tape somewhere. This song and Little Wing were amazing. It's like the guitar is part of his body.

  • I'd give myself up to put Stevie back on earth. That way I could watch him from heaven.

  • @tehtotez DAMN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is the most amazing thing i have EVER read !

  • @tehtotez ....really....do it!

  • @tehtotez give yourself up and you'll watch him in heaven from heaven. first row FTW

  • i remember the first time i saw him in the early 80's on public tv, i was like who the hell is this guy he's amazing. finally saw him a month before he died. the guy was amazing R.I.P. Stevie!!!!!

  • Man do i miss him

  • that drummer looks bored

but yeah SRV was da bomb

  • I have never heard anyone before or after have the total tonal command of a guitar as Stevie. Miss you man - I was going to get tickets for your next tour...

  • best guitar player there has ever been or will be!

  • @JCD11563 that's a very bold statement, tommy emmanuel is a better accoustic player,---- steve vai is technically better,----ry cooder is just as good,----clapton can play anything and make it sound real,---you just prefer the s.r.v genre and style, it doesn't mean he was the best guitar player ever, and who are you to say no-one better will come along playing the same style.

  • 20 years later this still makes me cry....

  • 20 years later this still makes me cry....

  • I remember the first time I saw this. I just couldn't stop watching it. UNREAL.

  • SMOOTHER THAN AGRAVY SANDWICH...

  • Ive been playing for 3 years now and this my favorite song. Needless to say I'm no where close to playing this tune, but it's my goal for sure. Probably will need another 20 years to play it shitty but I love trying. SRV is the man. Well it's flooding down in Texas, alllll the telephone lines are down......

  • He must be possessed by the demon, how can anyone play that good?

  • @radomu1 Oh, it wasn't a demon my friend. Only by the hand of God can one be blessed with sooo much talent. S.R.V. is very much missed but, with his recordings and old interviews we can still kinda get to know him.

  • @DuaneGib You're right, and I think that's why often those truly gifted people have such powerful problems, cause they can show what God can put into people, and the Devil don't like it, so he'll try to screw them up. He succeeded with lotsa people; but luckily some greats survived, like Eric Clapton for instance, and Stevie Ray (who I think got clean before the crash.)

  • yngwei fuckhead couldnt touch this shit if he tried

  • @goofywilly I can't give your posts enough thumbs-up.

  • Just in case you thought you were kinda good...he dismantles that idea behind the back

  • 20 years ago today, the world lost the greatest guitarist to ever live. what a man, and what a musician. rip, stevie, we love ya. this performance gives me goosebumps no matter how many times i've seen it.

  • @AllMotorGSR AMEN

  • Legendary

  • I see people complaining about a lot of things related to music, but nobody can say that a real soulful blues performance wasn't done, because it was. And there it is.

  • Actual music sucks. I want to die, born again in 60's and live my youthness in 80's. God bless SRV, the genius of blues!

  • Stevie did everything but throw a match on the joint!!!!!

  • This is not a performance, this is an exorcisim. The war he was waging and would eventually win with his demons came out in his playing. He literally wrings the notes outa that strat. Just physical as hell.

  • 1:31... Show me a better off the cuff guitar line than that.

  • By far, the BEST version of Texas Flood I've ever witnessed!

  • 4:47 any clue of how he does that?

  • @MaxSacur he bends the low e string on 8th fret and catches the string above...i guess...

  • @littlewing22222 thanks a lot for the tip.

  • @littlewing22222 That's right.

  • @MaxSacur are you talking about when he bends the notes and picks them on the release of the bend?

  • This has got to be the best live performance of any song I've ever seen! RIP SRV

  • stevie talk 2 times at the same time!! just pure soul

  • an angel

  • Absolutely nobody gave this video a thumbs down so far. I'm not surprised.

  • This is some of the only blues worth listening to out there.

    10/10

  • @hansen6102 its definently not the only blues worth listening to. mabey your just musically retarded

  • Nobody does it like Stevie

  • at :51, does anybody know what he's playing? is there a lesson on yourtube for that? cause it's freakin awesome

  • @jeffgnr

If it's like any other lesson for Stevie I've seen, it will give you all the mechanics, but not the soul. You'll have to look somewhere else for that. But, I admire anyone who tries.

  • @jeffgnr theres something called stevie snacks on youtube and a website, which covers a lot of this.

  • any body who says anything about this that is fake or somthing is just jelos and he unhooks the strap like these other pople are saying

  • the best thing about Stevie is that he doesnt hold back any emotion. he was 100% pure. look at the faces he makes. he conveys his personal agonies on to us and makes us feel what he feels. that makes him soooo much more than just the greatest guitarist ever.

  • Stevie had a great heart.

  • 7:12 MONSTER RIFF!!!!!

  • @CuChuFLais4321 That one, and the riff at :50 ...unlike any other blues riffs EVER, and innovative as hell. Both stuck out to me when I heard this version on Blues At Sunrise.

  • Comment removed

  • THats even more impressive than unplugging the guitar. He was the man.

  • At the 7:30 mark when he unplugs the guitar and puts it behind his back. How does the sound still play out of the speakers?

  • @mblockey he doesnt unplug it he disconnects his strap spings and puts the strap back on.

  • He doesn't unplug the guitar, he just unhooks the strap and then reattaches it behind his back.

  • thank you Stevie for giving your music to us.truely a rare gift. you put your heart into the blues. you will be missed.

  • 6:50 - 7:06 BLISTERING

  • I'd pay the evil to have his hands..

    Thank you Stevie.

  • forse.. il più grande bluesman!

  • DAMN!!! that was awsome

  • i think Texas Flood is right in the middle. not as slow and bluesy as Tin Pan Alley, not as fast as Voodoo Chile or Rude Mood, but right in the middle with the feeling of Lenny and Leave My Little Girl Alone. i cant say its my favorite because they are all my favorite.

  • this IS the shit!!!!

  • or you could say this is The shit or This is the shit or this is the Shit - all true! This Is The Shit!!

  • tssss.... HOT MUSIC... yeah!!!

  • This show is amazing man, one of the best ever.

  • What musician has never been booed at some point? Jimi Hendrix was booed at the Isle of Wight essentially because he had gone past "Purple Haze & "Foxy Lady" & that's all they wanted to hear. In addition he had Buddy Miles on drums & a different bass player whos' name escapes me but had been a long time friend. It may have been the bassist for the Isley Bros. Stevie was great even when boozed up but became smoother when he gave it up. He didn't do heroin, period. If any drugs at all, it was coke.

  • It was Billy Cox, they were friends from when they met in the military and started jamming there. They jammed a little here and there between Jimi's military career and his reverse british invasion. Then when things turned sour with bassis Noel Redding he contacted Bill again.

  • thevuduchild- You are correct sir ! I just couldn't come up with his name & just a couple of weeks ago I saw a great bio on Jimi I had seen before but .....forgotten. Someone mentioned that Jimi overdubbed alot. Well, that's the bonus of recording in studio but don't anyone kid yourselves, Jim could play anything he could imagine. He was & still is the best 40 years later. Clapton & of course SRV who happens to be a hometown boy.

  • @RangerAlways 2 grams of coke in a tall glass of i believe crown royal whiskey every day...the man got fucked up

  • @rubberrev0lver Anyone that knows anything about SRV knows he had a huge substance problem for a long time. But he cleaned up long before his death & it shows in his playing. The before & after is clear if you pay attention to his recordings.

  • @RangerAlways True, but he had clearly taken something before performing at el mocambo. Whenever he plays a song and his eyes are closed, its because hes on something.. In the end, his music got a lot better.

  • @MrJordan2513 He went in rehab for a month in 1986. Anything he did before involved cocain and alcohol. He music was always good though. He remains the best blues rock guitarist.. (in my opinion)

  • @MrJordan2513 I really wouldn't know if he did or didn't take something before this show. He was always a fine musician but when he cleaned up, he just got better.

  • You were LUCKY to catch this show in Toronto...!!

    JUST SMOKIN HOTTTTTT..!!!

    Thanks for posting this legend..!!

  • Do you know that the magnificent Stevie Ray Vaughan was BOOO'D AT MONTREUX the first time he played!!!!!!

    Morons.....

Hail Stevie....Your music makes you live on.

  • ya know what kills me about SRV:

a quote jimmy vaughn said, "Stevie never plays his song the same way twice"

Even if this was his best performance, i've heard bootlegs and other lesser known recordings that were nearly as good (just not in sound quality).

He will always humble me as a guitarist.

  • That's common of lots of great guitarists. Hendrix often played songs differently then his recordings. especially since he overdubbed many of them. But a lot of this is stream of conscious playing. my understanding is parts of this aren't written he's just playing. like jordan dunking. he says he didn't plan it he just figured it out when he got in the air.

  • @ozzy4pres He didn't need to play them twice. He had too bloody much to say to repeat himself.

  • God with a guitar

  • smokin

  • I didn't say It wasn't a compilation. His playing was terrible for about 2 years before that album. It shows on the album. I remember him pouring Canadian Club into a giant beer plastic cup then telling the Audience how much he loved Canadian Whiskey .... pretty sad I was there ...

And stopped going for a while

  • This was filmed by City TV which became Much Music and Broadcast on Chum FM Toronto within two weeks of the performance. We all video taped it and it was circulating via the grapevine. I saw every performance in Toronto after this one Massey Hall ect and he was this good every time till he did the Live alive album where he was too stoned to play well.
