  • @bethlany99, how did Rosetta find out that you sold copies of their software? Also, you're lucky that they are only asking for $1500 and not slapping a lawsuit on you, if you were dumb enough to get caught, then you probably deserve it, no offense.

  • i think rossettastone is great i use it and i know a heck of a lot more spanish than anybody who takes classes it seems but thats just my opinion of it

  • @9grlfriday Yes, you can learn to speak it with Pimsleur, but, as far as I know with my experience with it, they have no text. That's not exactly helpful when trying to learn a language properly. Personally, I prefer to be able to read, write, and speak the language instead of just one. That would be like giving me the text, and not showing me how to pronounce it. Yes, I can write it, and know what it means, but it does me no good.

  • I use Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone. One thing that I ABSOLUTELY HATE ABOUT PIMSLEUR is that, at least with the Russian, there's no text to it. What if I go to the country and need to know how to read or write something? Knowing how to pronounce it won't help with the Cyrillic alphabet that the Russians, and many other countries, use.

  • im a visual learner so i like rosetta stone

  • I'm using Pilser to learn Russian & I LOVE it! It works great for someone like me who is on the road a lot.

  • idn't support my language learning. I still have to do the same thing today.... just pick one and be thankful that you have at least one of those resources... I wish you the best of luck

  • Like I was saying in the other video... people tend to take sooo much time worrying about which way to learn a language.... but what people need to realize is that learning a language is learning a language. Don't think that you're gonna get out of the "difficulty" part of learning a language. It is difficult and it takes many many hours of very hard work. I am 15 years old and I have learned four other langauges on the net.. I had to find whatever was free when I was younger cuz my parents di

  • @JOSEDIEGO0569 Your mind is still very malleable at 15. We poor old people have a very difficult time learning a language.

  • the best product is Tell Me More by Auralog.

  • Skobdidoush! Wakka Wakka Wakka! You wanna learn? Move to country and survive for over a year. Sink or swim, young jedi.

  • @ANASTASIACHAVEZFILM In a way it is. But it's only if you want to be conversation, nothing more than that. It's basically just a phrase learning programme.

  • If you weren't selling another language teaching product your message may sound more sincere, I also noticed that you didn't speak any Portuguese. You must have learn at least a word or two in 8 lessons......

  • @btlfn723 well, how do you suggest i go about doing it differently?

  • @btlfn723 Well, btlfn723, your comment would sound more sincere if you didn't f@%k up your English. Are you trying to make a point? You must have "learn" that if you are to go about effectively criticizing, you shouldn't sound like a retard.

  • why are you learning portuguese?

  • @TheMossad921 it's a beautiful language, and i have a lot of south american friends...my spanish is good, i just want to round it out to portuguese..expeand my repertoire

  • @TinsleyCarmichael I've read that you shouldn't learn languages that are very similar. There's too much possibility of getting that confused.

  • Rosetta Stone has made me fully conversational in Spanish already. It is amazing.

  • @xAUSSIExMATEx I call bullshit.

  • @ZekeComa Nope, it's true. Why would I lie about something like that?

  • @xAUSSIExMATEx How you going to be able to, if it doesn't teach you really anything about the language? No grammar, no prepositions, no sentence order, etc. Hell even the best polyglots even say RS is garbage. Yes I have used it. I learned how to actually write sentences in my second language after a 2-3 weeks and that's with grammar, cases, interjections, slang, etc.

  • @ZekeComa It teaches all that stuff just how you learn it in English. You will never have well-ordered sentences if you keep trying to translate it from English because sentence structure can only be learnt easily through examples.

  • @xAUSSIExMATEx I'm doing fine in German learning from Assimil which makes you drive right into German text on one page and on the other give you the English text, gives you how to pronounce it, grammar rules, etc. So you're saying that one has to learn like a child like in Rosetta Stone in order to become fluent?

  • @ZekeComa I'm saying that it's the best way, because many simple phrases in other languages wouldn't make sense if translated into English, so you might not know what they actually mean. For example, in Spanish, many people say "nos vemos" which literally means "we see ourselves," but in a Spanish textbook, the translation says "see you later." So someone would go around thinking that "nos vemos" means see you later and would be very confused when moving on to more advanced grammar.

  • @xAUSSIExMATEx That's with any language. They will never translate correctly into another language. Germans "Wie geht's es dir/Ihnen" literally means "How goes it to you" but colloquially it means "How are you". If you're unsure of a meaning in another language, ask a Native. But I don't see a crappy software being able to give up 100% fluency in a language because that's impossible.

  • @ZekeComa I don't want to have a long drawn-out argument, but I have found RS to be wonderful in teaching me Spanish, and multiple native speakers have complimented me on my Spanish. I'm sure that Assimil is good, and you've learnt well with it, but (for me at least), I can tell you personally that I haven't yet encountered any problems with RS and I'm about 2 sessions away from being done with the third level and that I'm definitely going to purchase the last two levels.

  • @xAUSSIExMATEx That's your choice. But I rather just save that money and buy books that will help your Spanish, buy movies, parallel text books, etc than just with Rosetta Stone.

  • @ZekeComa Well, I respect that, and I know that not everyone will want to learn the same way, but I just don't like it when people talk badly about Rosetta Stone when it is working for me. Maybe not everyone wants to learn a language without translations to English, and that's fine, but Rosetta Stone does work, and I don't want people thinking that it doesn't just because of videos like this. And I've also gotten books and watched a couple of Spanish movies, and they helped a lot :)

  • @xAUSSIExMATEx Well yeah it might work for simple languages like Spanish, but try learning Russian, Arabic, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, etc. I'm just saying. Because I have used RS for German and Russian, and it's really bloody difficult. Because German uses different word orders than English, uses umlauts, 4 cases, genders out the butt. Russian uses 6 cases and more complex grammar. Look at Finnish, it uses 16 cases, which means a single verb has 48 ways to write it and irregular

  • @ZekeComa In Spanish, the sentence order is also different. You could have a sentence that says "I you it am going to give," and there are 214 tenses of every verb and a lot of irregular ones to remember. But I would have to say that if you learn it in a way that works for you, it isn't too hard. And maybe Rosetta Stone works better for some languages than others, but you can't say that it's bad when there are a lot of languages that are taught well.

  • @xAUSSIExMATEx I never learned Spanish, because I think the language is awful, but that's not the point. I'm just saying, you could easily get better materials for a lot cheaper. I can give you more reasons why it's bad but I can't post links in here =[. But how are you going to learn those 214 tenses in a language from just pictures, because pictures can be interpreted in many ways. "A picture is worth a 1000 words".

  • @ZekeComa Sometimes it is kind of difficult to learn every tense of a certain verb, but it actually works a lot better than you may think. I think that the main purpose is to give you a strong foundation, a decent vocabulary, and a really good accent while speaking so that it will be easier to build on to and it will feel more natural. I now find myself hearing or reading Spanish and not needing to translate it to English in my head. I'll admit it's not perfect, but it works very well.

  • what do i know in german lets see. du verdammter arschficker

  • I agree, Rosetta Stone is laughable. You can learn more here on the tube for free....try user Magauchsein as they have some really nice German vids with English translations on bottom.

  • @kevp951 You can learn more from Assimil than in Rosetta Stone.

  • E aí? Conseguiu aprender português?

  • hold on is the german language dutch?

  • @MrBobsrevenge

    no it in´t

german is "deutsch" dutch is spoken in the netherlands

  • @Q3zq ooooo i see now thanks

  • Ha! Thats funny, I found this right after I saw the shiva guy, and was wonderingwhat I should use for Portugese.

  • I am taking two german classes this semester and I also got the entire pimsleur collection for that lang. and pimsleur is way better than two college professors. If you are thinking about taking a language class DONT! get pimsleur and the pimsleur reading courses so you can read signs and what not . these lang classes are a joke.

  • The idea that anybody can become fluent using Rosetta Stone is laughable. No program can make you fluent, but a good one like TELLMEMORE can make you quite advanced. The final step is to read books in the language and talk with native speakers.

  • @Billymaysfan6837 I have Tell Me More for Japanese. I'm still learning the symbols right now though.

  • assimil is the best

  • Rosetta stone does that too. You have to set it to Full SCHOOL YEAR!

    -.-

  • its an individual basis and only those with the capacity will be able to understand different language..learning program or not....darwin bitches

  • I did some research, and the reason they don't use English is because when people learn their first language as a child, they don't have another language to translate from. A kid sees an apple and eventually associates the word apple with it. NO TRANSLATION !! They are trying to get you to be able to speak a language without having to translate in your mind what you want say, where the mere sight or thought of the object or situation comes up first in your brain as the targeted language.

  • from what i hear....

  • Pinsler is way mor effective....

  • "it's so easy to learn a language with this program." I liked this video and how you're describing how much you like it.. but are you sure you're learning the language properly? That's why i'm so iffy about language programs because you never really know until you're hundreds of dollars down the drain and only knowing how to have a conversation with unrealistic terminology.

  • i tried pimsleur and its boring as hell

  • Pimsleur repeats over and over and over ad nauseum and only occasionally teaches you new material. Also, Pimsleur teaches you the wrong way to say things. They teach you how to "get by" and "make yourself understood". After learning things the Pimsleur way, you then will need to unlearn that and then learn the correct way to speak.

  • someone i know learned how to speak japanese fluently with rosetta stone! she mastered it!!! IT WORKS REALLY WELL AND IM GETTING IT TOO

  • Comment removed

  • I want to learn Japanese you think I can with Pimsleur? I mean, I want to be able actually converse in japanese, does it also teach you how to read and write in a foreing language or is just speaking?

  • 3stars from me for not hating too hard on RS without using it. And I saw that one guy that said it was $1000...

No. I work for RS so if anyone wants to know the FACTS, I will be more then happy to share what I know. I really want to give pimsluer a try but so far the only thing I've seen of it is the audio lessons, which I thought were pretty good.

  • Leave him alone he's cute.

  • You talk alot of shit

  • Ich habe Rosetta Stone gemacht. Jetzt Kann ich Deutsch sprechen.

  • @psgw1234 congrats... you can say "i speak german"... and "i have" in german

  • @TinsleyCarmichael no he said, I have made Rosetta Stone. Now I can speak German.

  • @swastikaPOWER No he's saying He's done Rosetta Stone, now I can speak German.

  • @TinsleyCarmichael It's not bad. He's using the past participle. He's using the proper verb placement after the adverb. He's capitalizing the verb Kann for some inexplicable reason, though. And you have a point about stock phrases :)

  • @psgw1234

    sehr gut!!

  • @psgw1234 Du hast Rosetta Stone gemacht? Also du bist der Entwickler? Oder du hast den Lehrgang beendet? Das ist kein gutes Deutsch.

  • @psgw1234

    ^^

Wie lange haben Sie mit Rossetta Stein? Ihre Grammatik ist ziemlich gut!

and i thourghouly love there product and will buy and nre levels they make.

  • Pimsleur is the best when you start to learn any language !!! Which language do you learn?

  • Rosetta Stone is ridiculous $1000 for the new version. Don't buy it, just torrent it!

  • @rutger108 being fluent in 3 languages is awesome, it's okay that you don't understand that. go and jump onto more couches, fuckin tool.

  • i just dont see why your being such a little bitch...and just becasue you can read a dictonary and write a few words down doesnt make you fluent, it makes you fucking liar.

  • @rutger108 you're totally right man. i can honestly see the truth in your words. wow. you're a true genuis

  • sorry?

  • no need to be sorry for being a genius, dude. you're in your own realm of enlightenment. thanks for the awesome comment!

  • hey your really welcome, you have a good day making video responses and what not.

  • hey man, goin away so quickly? i really appreciate your words and want to thank you dearly for commenting once again. i will have a good day, and i hope you do too!! :) hit me up if you want to chat some more, i enjoy talking to you

  • @rutger108 just stfu i agree with TinsleyCarmichael completely on the rosetta stone subject.....your just being a total asshole....respect his video

  • @TinsleyCarmichael, I'm also learning Portuguese (Brazilian) and it is going good so far. I have a long way to go through. I agree with you, Rosetta Stone is a BIG JOKE. I was tying to learn Portuguese (Brazilian) but wasn't nowhere fluent.

  • @NegroTubeTv definitely. apparently it's "fully integrated" which means they use only the language one wants to learn and shows you pictures with the sound and spelling. i think that's a waste of time. i learned words by rote memorization and it's much quicker. and yes, learning a viscittude o words is necessary but it doesn't have to be at a mule's pace. it's much easier to make a list of words (like i do with portuguese thanks to my portuguese/english dictionary) of shit i see and it's quick

  • @TinsleyCarmichael

The reason you think it is mostly bad, is because not a lot of people want to go on YouTube and talk about how it is good, so you only get the negativitey.

  • @NegroTubeTv it's the structure and backbone pimsleur allows one that is so helpful when speaking with natives.

  • plus, if you only listen and speak with pimsleur then you'll never know how to read and write, which rosetta stone covers.

  • @swizzle2012. not exactly. they supply you with vocabulary lists. and it's not too difficult to learn a shitload of words, conjugations, different structures and parts of speech. i'm fluent in spanish from 4 years in high school and i've done it the whole book study route and it's nt as effective, though i'm fluent (i spent alot of time in costa rica). i find it more effective (for myself) to do the pimsleur. but if rosetta works for you, right on. people learn differently

  • @TinsleyCarmichael it just tkes less time to become fluent with the program in my opinion

  • how can you judge rosetta stone when you've never tried it? they don't use english because to be fluent in another language, you can't be dependant on enlgish. you have to learn to think in that language, which you get with rosetta stone. it also uses vocab throughout the program, so in that regard its the same as pimsleur. i think its really easy and fun to do rosetta stone.

  • Maybe Rosseta stone made it so just buying the first lesson will just leave you a bit confused without buying all the lessons so they can make sure that when you buy the first you will also have to buy the others to actually learn the language.

  • Nice video! Pimsleur is definitely smart! I just did the first lesson today for japanese and I thought the program, well, it "energized my brain", I think it's amaazing! to think the full course is nintety 30 min lessons + additional stuff wow I can't wait!!

  • interesting. i've got to check it out

  • Nice video. Mr Pimsleur called it the graduated interval recall method and was one of the first to speculate that memory could be modeled as an exponential decay curve at least in relation to language instruction.
