@tavvenbizzy07 Thatcher was not the worst PM of Uk and far less incompetent, she was indeed the best among UK's PM, she did a lot for that country but the problem was the political ethics and their crappy ways of dealings and more that delusional thoughts of being "all powerful" and disposing of the country and the civilians which serve best their ordeals.
It's so incredibly disgusting how deliberatly and calculating British Government did act. This is as a reckless and heinous foul play to international community as Saddam's war was.
It's even worse because they were civilians of their own and of befriended countries.
And if a Government treatens its own civilians like that there's no wonder that its elite soldiers die from crappy food rations.
SAS obviously don't have any transport facilities nor adequate equipment. It's just ridiculous...crappy
Saddam was a murderer like Hitler before him. He killed over 1,000 Kuwaiti civilians, killing thousands of his own people and Iranians in the 80s, even gave his troops an order to burn down Kuwaiti oil fields which is a major disaster in the Persian Gulf, and slaugerting 100,000 Kurds and Shiite rebels during the aftermath of the first Gulf War. The oil fields in Kuwait still hasn't recovered to this day after Iraqi troops burned their oil fields.
I may have missed it; but some of the crew members went into hiding, right? How did that go? The end of the documentary states that they all survived. But the film did not seem to have elaborated on that. Or did I miss it?
Thanks to bjones4 for posting this (good image and sound quality too...)
I don't think the British government knew that the passengers would find themselves in that position when the plane landed, and civlilian flights are routinely used to place military personnel in conflict zones. Don't like it? Change planets. Whatever, Saddam's actions in using women and children as emotional blackmail and men as human shields means I drank a bottle of Bordeaux the day he was hanged.
I was on the plane. I lost my home as a consequence. Total compensation from BA was 200 pounds. American passengers may have got compensation - not so the British.
Gone are the times that people accepted certain risks to be secure and free; now they whine and, of course, sue when their comforts are risked. What happened was wrong but what do you want--to change the entire order of nationhood and the interactions between countries and cultures? When I was young, I'd have said "yes, exactly" but now I don't have such a clear vision of these things. I'm not surprised that the Americans flocked to a rich Texan lawyer as soon as they got home.
keeprighton - not quite. US legal system is much more robust and forced BA to settle out of court, in the UK they had a quiet word with the judge in closed session (where they apparentl laid out that they'd been ordered in and thus were not liable) and got the case dismissed. It took another ten years of investigative journalism to get the proof behind all that. Thatcher lied, Major 'fudged' and BA hid behind a corrupt court system and powerful government friends.
it is a big mistake to say that shaikh ahmad alfahd is the amer's brother if that person was really ahmad alfahd he is the the amer's nephew.
In 2010, ahmad alfahd is deputy prime minster of kuwait.
Another thing, the shaikh who was killed in that day is fahd alahmad the father of shaikh ahmad and the amer's brother and i don't think that he was in that plan.
It wasn't? What other stunts did they pull?? I'm just asking more out of shock because regardless of when it was, this incident alone still happend...
It is an outrage that a government uses the national airline for military purposes endangering the lifes of its passangers and then lying about it..shame on BA
well BA will learn from this BIGTIME! just shows what pricks the fucking Iraqs are like, why are they even aloud entry into London since this? i dont know! whats been going on lately with all these terriorst plotts happening like the emirates one a couple of days ago just shows it. only one sultion to this and thats not allowing people like this into our country. and also if i was a passenger i would have sued BA to the ground for putting everyones life at risk! i can watch sadam get hung al day
Incompetence, naivete, and recklessness put those people in danger- all for the sake of a marginally effective intelligence mission. But incompetence, naivete, and recklessness on Saddam's part also saved them. The whole time, their presence was handled very haphazardly: he foolishly believed the invasion could be turned into a PR victory, so he kept them in nice hotels and made nice in front of the cameras. The post-Kuwait Saddam would have leveraged their butts, possibly to great effect.
Well, they should come clean,at least then the passengers can take pride in saving maybe countless coalition forces...and that is something to be proud of indeed..IMO they should have been granted veteran status(like we military are)for their unvolintary but still courageous service to their country!
but i feel awful for the passengers and i hope the brittish government will come cleant o what happened but bet ur ass thell never do that margerat tarcher is just as a dictator as bush
and iam fucking glad saddam hoessein is finally dead that sonof a iraqi whore sick fuck asshole
I always wondered about what happened "behind the scenes" on this story. As it could of been any of us on any trip abroad. Very interesting! It shows you can't trust anybody!
Thissecrecy is typical in Britain. I'm glad I moved to the US. At least the US system of government seems to be more open and the lawsuit threat in the US keeps the politicians more alert
Wow bdfordca... I always thought about moving to the USA.. but in the current financial crisis... I cant at the moment.. Ive been to america on holiday.. it was nice..
Why did the captain not consider refusing to fly the aircraft, or divert, news or no news? Or at least warn the passengers that they'd be flying at their own risk? It seems kind of negligent on his part too. He was the captain and bore some responsibility here, did he not? Just the fact that you have to check for news to see if the country you're about to fly into has been invaded yet or not--if you're at that point, isn't that already a huge red flag??? To me it would be.
Wow I had not even heard of this incident before watching this. What does that guy mean, he'd like to have someone from the British government knock on his door and explain what happened? Isn't it obvious? They needed to insert that special ops group "inconspicuously", and they used this civilian flight to do it. Someone should be held accountable, as it was negligent to say the least by someone somewhere. They should conduct a full investigation, right on up to 10 Downing St.
This was an extremely interesting documentary, my face was practically glued to the computer screen the whole time, thank you so much for posting bjones4!

If she knew about the invasion one hour before they arrived, why the fuck what you not divert. That alone caused the hostage situation?
