  • the trusty 7.3 never fails

  • why is it that all thermostats on 87-91 era Fords go up to hot as you crank?

  • @dant387

gauges bouncing around because the engine is trying to fire

  • I'm not sure if you're supposed to crank over 6 seconds continuously, but I don't have your owners manual

  • Maximum cranking time is 20 seconds, 2 min to let cool down.

  • dont crank it for such a long time. you will damage the starter motor

  • @uwersayin ... they have super heavy duty starters for exactly this reason. If you've ever owned any diesel (of the past), you just keep cranking till the oil burner rattles to life.

  • Maximum cranking time is 20 seconds, 2 minute cool down time.

  • that many miles, and no idiot lights r on, trusty old fords

  • hey check out ur oil psi needs a new sender then it will fire up nicer on them cold days

  • Oil psi has nothing to do with good or crapy start ups. And oil reads perfect. It had a couple bad glow plugs in this vid.

  • @IDIDieselJohn thought some older fords had something to read oil psi before it would start. dont say im stupid cause it sounds like somethin ford would do

  • I got a 7.3 in my international(it sounds wierd though), and it says in temps below 32F not to let them run under 1200 for 10 minutes

  • Really? Wow first time I hear that. This one has a High idle set @ 800RPM lol.

  • My manual says don't let it run OVER 1200 for 10 minutes, because the oil needs to heat up.

  • yep want me to take a pic where it says it?

  • @cranemaninamerica Partially true the old diesels were like that. they were all mechanical and needed to be worked. After ten min it wont do anything after an hour or more it may load up and start to wetstack"Load up on fuel" and when you go to take off it will smoke and cackle like a bitch but nbd. I used to let my 90 idle for 6+ hrs in the cold and it was just a smokey noisy ride for a couple seconds

  • its the glow plug relay on top of motor very common problem

  • Theres nothing wrong with teh controler or the glow plugs, it was really cold out.

  • Nice. I knew it would start. 371,000 kilometers is about 217,000 miles, right?

  • No, it's got 565000km so 371000miles.

  • wow. My 86 F150 had 440,000 miles when I got rid of it. Original engine and tranny!

  • Wow 440K was it a 300 inline 6? Original trans to, cool, automatic?

  • It was the standard 5.0L I have a private video showing some still pics of it, want me to send it to you?

And yes, automtic, fully loaded with EFI.

  • Yeah sure I'd like to see it.

  • Okay, it says it had 340,000 miles in the video but it really is 440,000. I might make a better video walk-around next time I go to my parents house.I will send it.

  • you should put like dual 3" straight pipes on this!

  • One day maybe lol.

  • Very nice cold start! Gotta love the old IDI diesels.

  • Thanks! Yup these ole boys never die.

  • man is she really struggling...

Yeah cycling the glow plugs on and off really helps a cold diesel in the morning

  • These old InDirect Injected diesels hate the cold lol

  • All Ford Diesels and also the Powerjokes really hates the cold .

  • Powerjokes how true lol.

  • well the oil cooler on the side of the motor

  • Nope, never had a problem with that in all the 371000miles.

  • 371000! she runs great!

  • Thanks. This kind of mileage is really nothing for these old IDI's

  • hey just wonder ing if you have had any iol cooler problems i sure have

  • iol cooler?? You mean coolent?

  • 1:22 :D

  • well you could always rely on your ford!!!..

  • Nice truck

  • That engine sounds nice. I had no doubts that it would start! Good Video Jonathan.

  • Thanks BOGAR!

  • Ford Trucks don't die!

  • thats true i got a 96 ford ranger with close to 200.000 miles on it lol still runs good

  • Love what you said when the engine finally decided it was going to live..."Oh God...Oh Yes!!...Thank Ya"

    You sounded so genuine!!!...I can't stop laughing....hahaha!!!

    Great Video!!! 5/5 Subscribed!!! :)

  • lol Thanks :D

  • Hey...You got some Great Videos!!!

I'm just working my through them right now! Every one is getting 5 stars from me!

Just watching the generator in your camper...CHOKETASTIC....hahaha!!!! :)

  • Thanks. LOL yeah I think the choke is sticking.

  • You know how hard it is to drive a 1-ton dually with about 1000 lbs of tools and fertilizer over soft ground with a 4 cylinder 3.6L diesel engine? I had to put it in low gear in 4 lo just so it would pull its own weight haha. About the only thing that was good on it was the axles so I sold it for $3500.

  • Nice. I wish I still had my 2002 F-350 w/ a 7.3 to cold start. It would make good cold start videos because it had been wrecked several times and not properly repaired haha. The good old 7.3 would always start you just never knew when haha. But it needed a total new front end a trans (soon) the whole fuel system and the engine needed rebuilt (it had almost half a million miles). One day I was out in the field spreading lime (hired had in the back) and one side of the engine gave out.

  • LOL yeah these old IDIs HATE the cold but yeah will always start but you never know when lol.

  • Start this pig before you have to make it squeel! Oh oh, that didn't sound good. Well there she blows captian, the glowplugs, she can't take it captian. Wait a minute, I just reinitialized the dylithium crystals, she's running now. Thanks for sharing

    Peace :)

  • damn sounds cold!!!!

  • Your Ford, my Chevy, no matter what, they both always start :)

  • HELL YEAH!!

  • It took awhile, but she started good cold start vid there john. cant wait to see more vids of this truck. :D

  • One shouldn't cuss at his truck. The truck has feelings!! (haha)

  • What is "blow-by"?

  • you remove the oil cap and see if steam/smoke comes out!!

  • him blowing up his blow up doll and getting jiggy lol jk

  • Wow LOL very mature Jon.

  • "Blow-By" is the exhaust/fuel/air that escapes past the piston in a cylinder. It happens to both diesels and gasoline engines, but because diesels require more compression to run blow by is more common in them and more serious if there is too much blow by. On some diesel trucks (I'm not sure how many or which ones) and on every diesel tractor I've ever seen they have special exhaust tubes out of the engine that run down under the tractor for releasing blow by

  • you can depend on your ford

  • Just remember, I think that you are only able to tell for sure how bad the blow-by is after it warms up. You only notice the smoke pour out after it warms up. That's my experience anyways. Unless it is REALLY worn, than you will get smoke right away.

  • Don't worry I waited untill it was near operating temputure. Theres no "Blow-by" at all nor smoke. Anyway you'll see tomorow.

  • Sounds a little rough running

  • Yeah because of the injectors. It only does that when it's cold, after running for a few minutes it runs perfect.

  • boy she really doesnt like the cold lol

  • Did it shut off their for a second?

  • What do you mean...like stall? No it didn't.
