Americans must be in shock their beloved high tech japanese hybrid fucked up and gets less mpg than a humble turbodiesel from 100 years ago.If they didn't invent the wheel , there is no wheel.US is the only country where hybrid sales are much larger than diesel, rest of the world is exactly opposite
@Olengher You speak the truth. Americans do not purchase logically. They purchase based on what the media says is the latest trend. Hybrids are overpriced by a long shot. People buy them to save money on gas yet they pay thousands more upfront for the hybrid frauds!! It would take 10 years of driving to justify the savings!!
Also i think Toyota has cult status in US, it's a good car, but cmon, you can buy a Ford Focus Titanium for the price of Prius wtf.Its american wtf, and it's good.In a Ford TDCi you get same mpg UPHILL that a Toyota Prius gets on level road, this is not bullshit.Thermal efficiency of diesel increase with pressure cos ignition is by pressure, where Prius gas engine is stuck at maybe 30% a diesel can go as high as 45% and beat the Prius in mild incline. This is not bullshit.
I love this . . . . set in stone I've decided Jetta TDI will be my next car. Fully equipped w/every option & I heard the powertrain lasts forever. That's what I need/want. Yall not bad ppl if one does their research they'd be able to comprehend these cars sell themselves. They hold their re-sale value after 200,000 + miles.
While you think napping is a good thing for some reason. You also seem to think I am some dumb kid. If I'd bought the tdi that I fully researched and drove. I'd of had first hand knowledge of it's high maintenance cost, not to mention most mechanics wont even touch it. THAT Speaks volumes.
You clearly will fight tooth and nail over the thing. For some silly reason. Besides, by now that paticular car has been wrecked or possibly parted out. I need not debate all day about this silly car. You'
@easydoz1 I personally do not believe in napping but seems as though you must need some more sleep so that you could make more sense. These cars are not tough to maintain and I know plenty of technicians willing to work on them. Our own technicians work on these on a regular basis. Whatever volume you are speaking is not very loud. Those who are educated about these cars know that they are worth every penny and then some. Ok,,now go get some rest like I suggested!
@easydoz1 That, makes no sense. I am with the poster. We have only had diesels, TDi's actually, and we have NOTHING but good things to say about it. Our V6 3.0 Littre All wheel drive audi A6 3.0 TDi quattro has been great. a full depot lasts around 900km, on a v6, we can do 6.3 Litres per 100km (convert it urself to mpg) on highways, and 8.0 on cities, and no trouble with it ever. our 1.9 TDi VW Caddy can do 5.2Litre /100km on cities ;)
And these TDI engines last forever. Beat that, you fanboy!
@easydoz1 Once again, go take a nap and come back when you have something worth reading. If you had any knowledge or actual experience with the TDi you would know that the mileage shown is an accurate representation of fuel economy. I have bought and sold more of these than I can remember. I drive them from Florida to Atlanta Ga on a regular basis. I can make a 500 mile trip on less than a tank of fuel. If your opinion was valid and educated I would appreciate it but it is far from either!
@easydoz1 What an intelligent comment! NOT! If you knew anything about VW Jetta TDI's you would know that this is a true representation of the fuel mileage. Go back to sleep and comment again when you get some sense!
Ok, I want the car. Only complaint I see is your not paying attention to the road. Hope you do not kill someone playing around like this. You need some one else doing the video and you drive.
I have a black '06 TDI 5 speed that I am crazy about. I get around 40-42 mpg in town, and a steady 60-61 mpg on the highway! South Florida to Canada on 3 tanks!
I have a 2000 golf and regularly get over 50 mpg with 15 gallon tank yields over 800 miles per tank. Oil change every 10,000 miles and I currently have 190,000 and never gave me any problems.
well, its true, i used to drive for 3 year a vw jetta tdi manual trans, with 59.000 km on the engine, when i bot it.(the engine is from vw passat 2004 2.0l tdi) i live in winnipeg,
so I and my friend, we planted to go to saskatoon,, so winnipeg>regina and finish saskatoon we stay for 3 days in there. than we go back to regina and got fuel.. so its from winnipeg to saskatoon is 827km and from saskatoon to regina is ~257km so its ~1100km on the tank..
Wow. Nice video! Almost 10 minutes of driving, unless you're a damn good special effects artist (or hacked the trip computer) I definitely believe you! I had a '07 Prius and I could reach MPG averages of 50-60 but I'd have to crawl around town in E-mode. 70mph would be 49mpg instant, 60mph would be 60mpg instant. But I'd always average right around 45-48mpg in keeping up with freeway traffic. Again, nice video!
Bill Paxton is that you?? haha jk... but seriously, I don't know why people wouldn't believe you! ive seen these VW diesels get low 40's in CITY which is amazing. You could go roughly 600 miles on one tank of gas. Diesel is where its at! much more efficient use of fuel.
@kab1341 These are the people who live a negative life and never try to find the good in anything!! I drive back and forth from Lakeland Florida to Atlanta Georgia all the time. It is about 500 miles between the 2 cities. I always drive a TDI Jetta and it uses only 3/4 of a tank of gas!!
@miltonautosales I believe it man, Because I work on Diesels and those VW TDI diesels really do get awesome fuel economy. I dont think ive seen any of them get below 40 in town... And they go forever if you take care of them. I prefer diesel because even if it cost more right now....it would have to cost on average 20-30% MORE than gasoline to lose efficiency. Its a win win to me. Good luck selling more cars. Id buy one in a heartbeat!
@kab1341 So funny!! I get told all the time that I sound like Bill Paxton!! I drive from Lakeland Florida to Atlanta )(500 miles) on less than a tank of fuel while averaging 80mph!
I know that this car is a economical car and it does to av 50 mpg, but driving it for 3 minutes and having an average of 50+ mpg is irrelevant. If you push the gas hard after 4 mins hard I bet you will go down to 35 mpg. Try sowing us on your BC a trip of 150-200 mi with a average of 50 mpg... That's relevant!!!
@volnick1986 You people crack me up with your theories!! It is not how many mins you drive or how many miles you drive that determines your MPG. It is all in how you drive. Of course if I push the gas hard as you say the economy will drop, that is common sense!! You can aavg 50mpg for hours if you drive it properly. Next time, make a comment that matters! I should have deleted this one!
@miltonautosales Hey dude I'm from Europe and I drive VW TDIs for a lot of years now. I've done Germany to Romania 800 mi with a average of 47 with my ex Passat 1.9 TDI. You are right that if you dive it properly u can average good MPG. I'm just saying that it's irrelevant to do an MPG for 10 mins. My GTI 1.8T if I reset the BC like you did will say 43 after 5 mins, and after 2 hour trip will say at the end 33. I can't say that my GTI does 43 MPG right? And BTW 50+ MPG u get on an empty h-way.
@volnick1986 I get what you are saying Dude, but it is obvious that this video was not posted solely to do a MPG demo. I am a car dealer and was selling this car! If I was uploading a video solely about MPG then perhaps I would have focused more on that. It just cracks me up that you think that the short time shown makes it irrelevant to mention MPG. If you knew the purpose of my video from the beginning you would have not made such and IRRELEVANT comment! LOL
@miltonautosales Even the video name is "2006 VW Jetta TDI 50+ Miles Per Gallon" !!! Don't tell me that you didn't focus on that when you put the video name like that and you talk mainly about MPG. If you didn't focus on the MPG you would have presented the features of the car and at the end of your trip: "BTW we got 50+ on this trip! Nice car..."
@volnick1986 I do not have to justify anything to you but I will try to explain one more time with smaller words so you might understand. This video was inserted into an ebaymotors ad. As you can see I spoke about the entire car. If you knew anything about sales, you would highlight what makes a car stand out. Since fuel economy is a major factor when it comes to selling cars today, what do you think should be pointed out on a Jetta TDI? People buy TDI's because of the MPG!!
50 MPG is attainable if you drive this vehicle properly! I appreciate the educated comments on here. Also, funny how everyone does not like car people! You people should be the ones ashamed for labeling me. If you knew me personally, you would love and trust me!! I guess since I see black dudes robbing people on the news(that is all the news shows) then I should not like any black dudes?! Wrong! I have plenty of black friends. Before you judge me, make sure you know me.
@miltonautosales In second :016 you said: "I'm gonna film the MPG!" Please don't try tot over talk me by talking bullshit and miss telling stuff! Good luck with your auto sales! END (PS: If I was a potential client I would have walked away to another dealer since you got this attitude and you think you are a smart ass)
50mpg isn't deceptive. I'm not a fan of car dealers in the least bit, but it's not their fault if people drive too stupidly to achieve good mileage. I regularly get about 43mpg in my gasoline car, in town. No shit. If I had a TDI, I'm sure I would regularly see 60mpg on the highway.
He is absolutely right. I own a 2008 1.9 TDI 105HP in Belgium (Europe for the US folks) that puts out alot of torque at low rpm and is very fun to drive. I averaged 5.4 liters per 100km over the 60000km (40000 miles) that I have put on it. The 5.4 liters per 100km is about 45 to 48mpg. I can easily do 650km on a tank of fuel that is 55 liters (14.5 gallons). The car also has it downsides like the noisy engine which I actually like to hear (it screams torque torque :-) ).
I've got a 2006 with 110,000 miles on it. I bought it new. The Lowest I've ever gotten was 39 MPG with winter blend (less energy dense) Pennsylvania fuel. On trips I do get up to 50. I do not have a trip computer (pkg 1). This is calc'd over a whole tank. Usually, however, with mixed driving city/highway, I get about 46MPG.
i got almost 500 miles on a tank of gas and i have a 2.5i went to san antonio and back from houston with the ac pumping and i hit 80 for a good couple miles
Just finished a road trip from Red Deer Alberta Canada to Coachella CA about 6000 km. My Diesel bill at the end of everything was under 300 buck's so it's pretty wicked i would say. The most i've ever got was around 51mpg :).
Forget the haters. My '06 TDI gets about fifty MPGs cruising the highways at 65 mph here in missouri, and our roads aren't nearly as flat as those in Georgia.
You're absolutely right about aggressive driving vs. relaxed driving...I don't have a diesel but I can tell you right now, my Cobalt gets 35MPG without much effort if I don't lay on the throttle. The car I own is more than capable of driving 90+MPH, but as soon as I cross the average speed of 80 my MPG's go down to about 25. Regular maintenance and non-reckless driving make a huge difference.
I'm in a 1996 VW Passat TDI and I calculated my economy to be around 32-35 city/highway (mostly city) mix driving. its pretty amazing for a 14 year-old car.
Thats bout right as they sell that car hear in europe called the passat (has the same engin and box) i own a peugeot 1.9 diesel wich will get 57 mpg at 70 mph
FYI-- We all know that the speedometer on Jettas', are inaccurate past, oh I don't know, 65 mph. So if your MPG is accurate, then the computer system is being told two different things from the power-train and the analog gage system. It can't handle telling lies. So, if one day we can be friends again...
*Only after your understand my messages, you'll need to convert the "language" in which your components speak to each other so that nothing needs to be translated anymore.* I'd like a ride, after a well behaved Germany lends a hand to America, in rebuilding our economy. And do it Green ;) cause it makes sense and is the right thing to do for everyone in the world. Especially those little Pacific Island Nations. P.S. Say hi to Ryan for me.
I purchased a used 2006 Volkswagen Jetta TDi about a year ago. I get about 36 mpg city. I got 40 mpg from Terre Haute Indiana to St. Louis and back. I was driving at 80 mph!! The mpg depends on your driving and idling but expect 36 mpg and above? Great car!
It depends on your driving style if you learn the car 50mpg is possible but 40's is more reasonable. EPA says like 33 city and 44 highway or something...
miltonautosales is right!!! i live in Europe and here 60+ % of all autos are diesel powered! it is possible to get that mpg with a modern diesel. i drive diesel 2008 mercedes CLC (new version ov C-coupe) with 2.2L diesel and my personal record is 48mpg(4.9L/100km) but its heavier than the Jetta and it is bigger than the C-coupe this time. You just have to accelerate smooth and shift up at 2000 revs and you'll be amaized how economical new diesels are.
@venci1983 In the UK I have managed 72MPG from a 1600cc turbo diesel ford focus with a manual gearbox.
You can get good fuel economy from a diesel without trying. That was going along a motorway at 70MPH with the cruise control on for 30 miles. My old petrol one wouldn't give anything close to that.
I would like a turbo diesel with a DSG gearbox next.
@urbex2007 wow that's great :) my point was that the americans don't have to be afraid to buy modern diesels and because the use half of worlds oil they are gonna refuel less and the prices will fall down :) i'm sorry but you don't need 6.0L V8 to deliver bread in the neighbourhood in Europe you know since you live in the UK that we use small engined diesel vans and they are just fine for the job with half of the fuel consumption
miltonautosales are deceiving their customers in this video.
29+ drivers of 2005-07 Jetta TDI contributed their combined lifetime mpg, it is 6,12 l / 100 km = 38,43 mpg US
Please follow this link removing parentheses to see it: tinyurl(.)com(/)lq5xtw
miltonautosales present your partial results from a very long trip, probably with a lot of very careful highway driving. Combined real life mpg will be much lower yet they fail to inform you about that.
Seriously? You do not have something better to do with your time than make an accusation that I am deceiving people. I have been in this business for 20 years. Deceptive people never make it that long in this industry! I simply showed what is possible. How is that deceptive. Get your facts straight before trying to bash someone. Driving habits, climate, road conditions, vehicle condition, and many other factors contribute to MPG.
Of course some drivers will get less while others get more, giving you what is called an avg. 29 people?! The EPA states that people have achieved up to 55MPG! I guess they are deceiving people too
I just posted a vid of a 2005 Jetta TDI getting 50mpg on the Highway,,,,again! Common sense says that driving habits affect MPG so why should I mention it?
people get worse mileage especially in these cars because they are too quiet. i own a gaslone powered one, but im sure its the same for diesels. i can cruise with the engine revved close to 5000RPM, and the noise is perfectly fine, but mileage sucks. in most other cars, once you go above 3000, the engine noise gets annoying, and you upshift.
The navigation system is almost $2000 for 2009 Jetta. I am wondering why it is very expensive. I mean, I can simply buy a GPS separately for only $100 plus. What is so special about the navigation system that makes it so expensive?
That is awesome! A friend of ours just got this same type of vehicle 2006 VW Jetta TDI but with manual shift. The folks he bought it from got 57mpg highway on a cross country trip.
He's only had it 48 hrs and love it! Believe me, he will be giving it a work out and I bet he gets the same highway mileage. It's in great shape and only 83K miles.
i just bought an 06 jetta 2.5 and i still get about 28 mpg in the city... and thats on gasoline! i fully understand the tdi's goe MUCH better but i love mine too! mine has 35K miles and i am going to get a vw as my next car as well!
how do you get that kind of mileage??? i have an '08 rabbit 2.5 gasoline, and i get around 22-23mpg city, and if i realllly try, i can get it up to 25, but thats about it.
i have a K&N drop-in air filter and Goodyear Fuel Max tires, and i ALWAYS have the climate control turned on economy.. i also try to put in mid-grade gasoline and use the cruise control.. im getting closer to 30 since i have posted my last comment..
oh, so im assuming u really care about mileage...i must admit i dont concentrate on that too much. i get much better mileage on my other car because the engine is louder, so i upshift sooner, lol
Yes, and the EPA in its never ending battle to screw the diesel engine in this country severly devalued the real world mileage of the newest model. 29/40 est. my ass! I have a friend with the exact model shown here and he is getting 50mpg at 70mph. I have a 2003 with 150,000 miles, the old 1.9 90hp and 4 speed automatic and I get 35/43. Since 2004, the Jetta TDI has outperformed the Prius in every highway test. A hybrid is great if you don't drive it like a car.
I was wondering if the changes dictated by the EPA hurt the mileage. I bought a 2006 today, so I'm glad to hear my hunch was right and I got a more fuel efficient machine.
Actually, the 2009 is damn near as good. I talked to a lday about two months ago at the dealership while I was having my oil changed and she is getting 47mpg at 70 mph. VW used two independent companies to test the new TDI since they were shafted by the EPA and even those companies showed 37 city 44-45 highway. I'll proably be audited by the Government now as no doubt they are monitoring subversives like me.
the EPA tests are total bullshit. i guess they can be useful if youre trying to compare the mileage of 2 cars that are nearly identical (same type of drive system (gas, diesel, hybrid) and same transmission. if youre trying to compare cars that are very different, the results are useless
If people are getting this insane gas mileage, why are there any "used" TDI's for sale? Why don't people simply keep them until the wheels fall off? If I could get my hands on one, I would drive it forever. The only reason I can see for selling it is if the car were crashed and repaired. Cars are never the same after a repair.
on update I've driven it about 250 miles so far around the city and am averaging 44.5 mpg. I'm expecting to pull 620-640 miles out of the tank before I fill up again. The EPA estimates 30 mpg in the city.....30 mpg my ass. I could drive it like i stole it all day everyday and still average more then that.
I just bought an 06 TDI and the car is just absolutely amazing. People are stupid if they think that these cars don't get that kind of mileage. I fully expect to average over 40 mpg city/highway. They are also fun as hell to drive. I feel I got a steal of a deal. Only 35k miles with all and basically the same car as in the video. Original sale price - 30k.....got mine out the door at $20,500.
Yeah probably for a barebones model. The reason mine was so much is because it has full leather interior, power sunroof, dual climate control, 6 spd auto DSG, alloy rims, totally clean. No stains and hardly any scratches in the paint. It also only had 35,905 miles when I bought it. Any 2006 VW TDI going for 13k probably has about 150k miles and doesn't have any upgrades.
I get like 53mpg running 60-65. I don't care since I go an average of 625 miles between fill ups and haven't spent more than $100 in a month for fuel... driving 350mi/week.
just got back into a tdi, my 4th, a 06 jetta package 2!!
my last, a 97 passat, got 822 mpg on my first fill, 17.5 gals is what I used.... equaled out to about 48.7 mpg!!!!
It's for real people!
BUT, the older tdi's get better mpg than the newer......

Diesel is where its at! much more efficient use of fuel.
kab1341 1 year ago 2
@kab1341 These are the people who live a negative life and never try to find the good in anything!! I drive back and forth from Lakeland Florida to Atlanta Georgia all the time. It is about 500 miles between the 2 cities. I always drive a TDI Jetta and it uses only 3/4 of a tank of gas!!
miltonautosales 1 year ago
@miltonautosales I believe it man, Because I work on Diesels and those VW TDI diesels really do get awesome fuel economy. I dont think ive seen any of them get below 40 in town... And they go forever if you take care of them. I prefer diesel because even if it cost more right now....it would have to cost on average 20-30% MORE than gasoline to lose efficiency. Its a win win to me. Good luck selling more cars. Id buy one in a heartbeat!
kab1341 1 year ago
@kab1341 So funny!! I get told all the time that I sound like Bill Paxton!! I drive from Lakeland Florida to Atlanta )(500 miles) on less than a tank of fuel while averaging 80mph!

I know that this car is a economical car and it does to av 50 mpg, but driving it for 3 minutes and having an average of 50+ mpg is irrelevant. If you push the gas hard after 4 mins hard I bet you will go down to 35 mpg. Try sowing us on your BC a trip of 150-200 mi with a average of 50 mpg... That's relevant!!!
volnick1986 1 year ago
@volnick1986 You people crack me up with your theories!! It is not how many mins you drive or how many miles you drive that determines your MPG. It is all in how you drive. Of course if I push the gas hard as you say the economy will drop, that is common sense!! You can aavg 50mpg for hours if you drive it properly. Next time, make a comment that matters! I should have deleted this one!
miltonautosales 1 year ago 2
@miltonautosales Hey dude I'm from Europe and I drive VW TDIs for a lot of years now. I've done Germany to Romania 800 mi with a average of 47 with my ex Passat 1.9 TDI. You are right that if you dive it properly u can average good MPG. I'm just saying that it's irrelevant to do an MPG for 10 mins. My GTI 1.8T if I reset the BC like you did will say 43 after 5 mins, and after 2 hour trip will say at the end 33. I can't say that my GTI does 43 MPG right? And BTW 50+ MPG u get on an empty h-way.
volnick1986 1 year ago
@volnick1986 I get what you are saying Dude, but it is obvious that this video was not posted solely to do a MPG demo. I am a car dealer and was selling this car! If I was uploading a video solely about MPG then perhaps I would have focused more on that. It just cracks me up that you think that the short time shown makes it irrelevant to mention MPG. If you knew the purpose of my video from the beginning you would have not made such and IRRELEVANT comment! LOL
miltonautosales 1 year ago
@miltonautosales Even the video name is "2006 VW Jetta TDI 50+ Miles Per Gallon" !!! Don't tell me that you didn't focus on that when you put the video name like that and you talk mainly about MPG. If you didn't focus on the MPG you would have presented the features of the car and at the end of your trip: "BTW we got 50+ on this trip! Nice car..."
volnick1986 1 year ago
@volnick1986 I do not have to justify anything to you but I will try to explain one more time with smaller words so you might understand. This video was inserted into an ebaymotors ad. As you can see I spoke about the entire car. If you knew anything about sales, you would highlight what makes a car stand out. Since fuel economy is a major factor when it comes to selling cars today, what do you think should be pointed out on a Jetta TDI? People buy TDI's because of the MPG!!
miltonautosales 1 year ago
50 MPG is attainable if you drive this vehicle properly! I appreciate the educated comments on here. Also, funny how everyone does not like car people! You people should be the ones ashamed for labeling me. If you knew me personally, you would love and trust me!! I guess since I see black dudes robbing people on the news(that is all the news shows) then I should not like any black dudes?! Wrong! I have plenty of black friends. Before you judge me, make sure you know me.
miltonautosales 1 year ago
@miltonautosales In second :016 you said: "I'm gonna film the MPG!" Please don't try tot over talk me by talking bullshit and miss telling stuff! Good luck with your auto sales! END (PS: If I was a potential client I would have walked away to another dealer since you got this attitude and you think you are a smart ass)
volnick1986 1 year ago
50mpg isn't deceptive. I'm not a fan of car dealers in the least bit, but it's not their fault if people drive too stupidly to achieve good mileage. I regularly get about 43mpg in my gasoline car, in town. No shit. If I had a TDI, I'm sure I would regularly see 60mpg on the highway.
SakoTGrimes 1 year ago
Can you hiper mile it going like 60mph? 50 is balln
kiasoul10 1 year ago
He is absolutely right. I own a 2008 1.9 TDI 105HP in Belgium (Europe for the US folks) that puts out alot of torque at low rpm and is very fun to drive. I averaged 5.4 liters per 100km over the 60000km (40000 miles) that I have put on it. The 5.4 liters per 100km is about 45 to 48mpg. I can easily do 650km on a tank of fuel that is 55 liters (14.5 gallons). The car also has it downsides like the noisy engine which I actually like to hear (it screams torque torque :-) ).
lucpeeters 1 year ago
I've got a 2006 with 110,000 miles on it. I bought it new. The Lowest I've ever gotten was 39 MPG with winter blend (less energy dense) Pennsylvania fuel. On trips I do get up to 50. I do not have a trip computer (pkg 1). This is calc'd over a whole tank. Usually, however, with mixed driving city/highway, I get about 46MPG.
nodnarbgime 1 year ago
This dude isnt talkin shit,
You WILL only get this high of mpg IF the car was properly broken in AND you dont drive like a insane old bat,

I own a 2006 Jetta TDI. I average 45MPG (75% highway). My best tank was 52MPG. In city driving 37-40MPG is typical.
onewillyou 1 year ago
You're absolutely right about aggressive driving vs. relaxed driving...I don't have a diesel but I can tell you right now, my Cobalt gets 35MPG without much effort if I don't lay on the throttle. The car I own is more than capable of driving 90+MPH, but as soon as I cross the average speed of 80 my MPG's go down to about 25. Regular maintenance and non-reckless driving make a huge difference.

FYI-- We all know that the speedometer on Jettas', are inaccurate past, oh I don't know, 65 mph. So if your MPG is accurate, then the computer system is being told two different things from the power-train and the analog gage system. It can't handle telling lies. So, if one day we can be friends again...

Great car!
BIGFOOTCHASE 2 years ago
It depends on your driving style if you learn the car 50mpg is possible but 40's is more reasonable. EPA says like 33 city and 44 highway or something...

miltonautosales is right!!! i live in Europe and here 60+ % of all autos are diesel powered! it is possible to get that mpg with a modern diesel. i drive diesel 2008 mercedes CLC (new version ov C-coupe) with 2.2L diesel and my personal record is 48mpg(4.9L/100km) but its heavier than the Jetta and it is bigger than the C-coupe this time. You just have to accelerate smooth and shift up at 2000 revs and you'll be amaized how economical new diesels are.
venci1983 2 years ago 7
@venci1983 In the UK I have managed 72MPG from a 1600cc turbo diesel ford focus with a manual gearbox.
You can get good fuel economy from a diesel without trying. That was going along a motorway at 70MPH with the cruise control on for 30 miles. My old petrol one wouldn't give anything close to that.
I would like a turbo diesel with a DSG gearbox next.
urbex2007 1 year ago
@urbex2007 wow that's great :) my point was that the americans don't have to be afraid to buy modern diesels and because the use half of worlds oil they are gonna refuel less and the prices will fall down :) i'm sorry but you don't need 6.0L V8 to deliver bread in the neighbourhood in Europe you know since you live in the UK that we use small engined diesel vans and they are just fine for the job with half of the fuel consumption
venci1983 10 months ago
People are absolutely right.
miltonautosales are deceiving their customers in this video.
Combined real life mpg will be much lower yet they fail to inform you about that.
johnyfishable 2 years ago
Seriously? You do not have something better to do with your time than make an accusation that I am deceiving people. I have been in this business for 20 years. Deceptive people never make it that long in this industry! I simply showed what is possible. How is that deceptive. Get your facts straight before trying to bash someone. Driving habits, climate, road conditions, vehicle condition, and many other factors contribute to MPG.
miltonautosales 2 years ago
Of course some drivers will get less while others get more, giving you what is called an avg. 29 people?! The EPA states that people have achieved up to 55MPG! I guess they are deceiving people too

I just posted a vid of a 2005 Jetta TDI getting 50mpg on the Highway,,,,again! Common sense says that driving habits affect MPG so why should I mention it?
miltonautosales 2 years ago
people get worse mileage especially in these cars because they are too quiet. i own a gaslone powered one, but im sure its the same for diesels. i can cruise with the engine revved close to 5000RPM, and the noise is perfectly fine, but mileage sucks. in most other cars, once you go above 3000, the engine noise gets annoying, and you upshift.

The navigation system is almost $2000 for 2009 Jetta. I am wondering why it is very expensive. I mean, I can simply buy a GPS separately for only $100 plus. What is so special about the navigation system that makes it so expensive?
blessedhomosapiens 2 years ago
well, i guess its mostly the fact that its integrated into the car. i know my sis got the ipod dock thing and it was 300-400 or something like that.

I want one :)

i have a K&N drop-in air filter and Goodyear Fuel Max tires, and i ALWAYS have the climate control turned on economy.. i also try to put in mid-grade gasoline and use the cruise control.. im getting closer to 30 since i have posted my last comment..
myVW4LIFE 2 years ago
oh, so im assuming u really care about mileage...i must admit i dont concentrate on that too much. i get much better mileage on my other car because the engine is louder, so i upshift sooner, lol
pepene93 2 years ago
Yes, and the EPA in its never ending battle to screw the diesel engine in this country severly devalued the real world mileage of the newest model. 29/40 est. my ass! I have a friend with the exact model shown here and he is getting 50mpg at 70mph. I have a 2003 with 150,000 miles, the old 1.9 90hp and 4 speed automatic and I get 35/43. Since 2004, the Jetta TDI has outperformed the Prius in every highway test. A hybrid is great if you don't drive it like a car.
1965JWP 2 years ago
I was wondering if the changes dictated by the EPA hurt the mileage. I bought a 2006 today, so I'm glad to hear my hunch was right and I got a more fuel efficient machine.
mj011n1r 2 years ago
Actually, the 2009 is damn near as good. I talked to a lday about two months ago at the dealership while I was having my oil changed and she is getting 47mpg at 70 mph. VW used two independent companies to test the new TDI since they were shafted by the EPA and even those companies showed 37 city 44-45 highway. I'll proably be audited by the Government now as no doubt they are monitoring subversives like me.
1965JWP 2 years ago
the EPA tests are total bullshit. i guess they can be useful if youre trying to compare the mileage of 2 cars that are nearly identical (same type of drive system (gas, diesel, hybrid) and same transmission. if youre trying to compare cars that are very different, the results are useless

I'm getting 40 city on mine. Have only had it 3 weeks, but got 560 miles on my second tank, 80% city driving.

on update I've driven it about 250 miles so far around the city and am averaging 44.5 mpg. I'm expecting to pull 620-640 miles out of the tank before I fill up again. The EPA estimates 30 mpg in the city.....30 mpg my ass. I could drive it like i stole it all day everyday and still average more then that.
ElvenousAndrogynous 3 years ago
I just bought an 06 TDI and the car is just absolutely amazing. People are stupid if they think that these cars don't get that kind of mileage. I fully expect to average over 40 mpg city/highway. They are also fun as hell to drive. I feel I got a steal of a deal. Only 35k miles with all and basically the same car as in the video. Original sale price - 30k.....got mine out the door at $20,500.

I've seen them on Auto Trader for $13k. Why was it so much? I could have bought a brand new one in 2006 for $21,000.
z28com 2 years ago
Yeah probably for a barebones model. The reason mine was so much is because it has full leather interior, power sunroof, dual climate control, 6 spd auto DSG, alloy rims, totally clean. No stains and hardly any scratches in the paint. It also only had 35,905 miles when I bought it. Any 2006 VW TDI going for 13k probably has about 150k miles and doesn't have any upgrades.
