  • I love how the audience tries to dance to a blues song dam that was funny! You rule Ronnie Lane!

  • amazing !! ronnie rules !!

  • @tataso Wood !!

  • What an amazing smile!

  • Steve Marriot: yes!

  • Awesome and excellent. I had their 1st 3 albums back in the early 70's. Great music.

  • miss u ronnie

  • Why did they ever let Rod sing?

  • @andrewm665- he is not really playing the bass lol. he is mucking about.

  • What a great trio, Ronnie Lane, Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart[on bass never seen him play it before or after shows Rod knows a little more about music than singing]

    This is a classic!

  • @andrewm665 They made 4 albums!

  • You tell 'em, Ronnie old boy.

  • hi, I just have a question for anyone that might know...I know both Ronnie's were Zemaitis guitar enthusiasts and collectors...I also recognize Wood's guitar as being a Zemaitis from other concerts I've seen...what I'm not sure of is Lane's guitar...I've seen other pictures of him with the Zemaitis, but I can't remember seeing the two smaller metal circles in any picture...could someone please clear this up for me? thanks so much...

  • @b017ni3 Both are playing Resonator style guitars. I've read that Ronnie Lane was partial to the brand Dobro, which are beautiful instruments, so if I were to guess I would say that's what he is playing here.

  • Ronnie Lane sounds a lot like George Harrison here.

  • If ever you feel down, watch Plonk signing.

  • Great.

  • Ron Wood the best !

  • Look at Rod playing the double bass(?)--rare indeed! Very special video, thanks for posting. Btw, would that be Richmond, UK? we yanks across the pond have one too . . .

  • @1DevotedRodFan Not necessarily, we Brits are happy to sing about places that we can only ever dream of going to!

  • gosh, when was the last time a tv 'pop' audience got treated to some *real* musicians like this - ye gads! :)

  • LOVE - magical music.

  • it's pretty good!

  • Ronnie even looks a bit like George Harrison here! And all hail those guitars.

  • great , beautiful remember me when i was little...... the faces for ever............ thanks for this great video!! clément

  • This track inspired my teenage son to play the guitar and hes good! Thanks Ronnie You are specialx

  • ... I can't help thinking that his singing sounds so much like George Harrison ....

  • You can add literacy to that Miss Marriott. No one seems to be able to articulate an idea these days....I dont think its a matter of privilege either...look at the Small Faces, all working class boys and yet theyd all clearly read and developed an imagination and the ability to convey ideas of the quality of Afterglow and Ogdens...just two examples of quite brilliant pieces of writing; you wont find a better example of articulating love and desire than in Afterglow.........then or now.

  • Is that Rod playing stand up bass?

  • Yeah Definately looks like him. A great song!

  • What a great piece of footage, thanks for posting. I've never seen The Faces not laughing & smiling when they played, they were the ultimate goodtime band. Ronnie you were & always will be a legend. Sadly gone but definately not forgotten!

  • What a natural.

  • AMAZING !!!!

  • Ronnie sounds exactly as George...and even looks like...

  • Wow look how happy Ronnie looks. He and Ron Wood were good together! This track inspired my son to play. Thanks Ronnie.Even when youre not here you are still specialxxxxxxxxxx

  • i started playing when my dad played the faces to me .that was ten years ago . i just played with the noisettes .tell the boy to keep rocking

  • I think I saw the same concert n 1967 when I was just sixteen years old at Wembley Stadium, North London, and it only cost five bob to get in. That's 5 shillings in old UK money or 25 pence now. And I even saw the Rolling Stones for that small amount. It was still a weeks wages on my paper round though, but what value. Golden memories.

  • thank the lord my kids heard plenty of this as they grew up in our house.....they love most of it....I saw the Faces with Rod Stewart Manfred Mann the Who and Herman's Hermits LIVE! in the one concert (at Sydney Stadium!)....we used to get real value for our money in those days....these guys created original sounds and knew how to really please an audience as they loved and lived music...24/7. fresh raw and brilliant!....and it's lasted the test of time!that's good music!

  • Aye right......... that's why he has a list of ex blonde leggy birds longer than a piece of string...

  • Just as you were born with 'non-entity' on yours.

  • excellent reposte!

  • Thankyou. It deed seem to be appropriate.

  • Comment removed

  • Wonder why the name of it is Rod Stewart and the Faces when it's Ronnie Lane who sings ??

  • Rod stewart is proper crap, not a patch on the small faces.

  • Ronnie Lane was the only member who could write a song, fabulous guy, see Slim Chance.

  • Yes couldn't agree more.

  • You can see past the obvious, and Ronnie said " I quit them first, before Rod went solo", no fool our Ronnie.

  • This track is so cool that it inspired my teenage son to get a resonater guitar and he loves playing this one Thank you Ronnie Lane even the young uns know who you are and love you!

  • love the dancing

  • As much as I love their rockers, this song has always been a favorite of mine - I always figured Woody was double tracking in the studio on this - after all these years I find out that Lane was the second slider. Excellent stuff - thanks!!!

  • rod playing bass for the first time, is not bad at all.. ashole

  • Where did the Sweet lady Mary vid go? It was on youtube but it vanished... so sorry, please put it back! (love the pedalsteel part with Woody!)

  • @Springwouter I was the uploader of that video. Warner Music Group didn't think it was to brilliant of me to upload it though, since it contained the album version of song (live lyrics with the recorded backing track). So at their request, YT removed the sound and I won't upload it again.

  • yeap, i love them both, ronnie and george

    Geniuuuuus : )

  • Please dont yell at me tryin to covince me how cool todays bands are ie John Mayer, Gov't Mule or the Black Crowes etc. I've my own opinion too. To me NONE of todays bands come close to UK rock like Marriott!, the Who or the Small Faces & NONE of them had the subtle class of Ronnie Lane! He was a true trobadour first class & by all accounts a man who suffered his pains in quiet great dignity I miss musicians (& PRODUCERS & ENGINEERS WHO HAD EARS AND PAID ATTENTION!) like that. Lane was pro!

  • I agree :)

  • ta - they threw away the mold after Marriott & Plonk didn't they? Ronnie Lane - such a gift he shared! Shine on Plonk! And mymarriott too..

  • I totally agree...as much a pain in the butt it is to grow older...at least in my day, we had such GREAT MUSIC! What bands now can compare to the Beatles, Stones, Who, Queen any of them...every time I see these new piece of crap new bands on the talk shows, etc...I just turn the channel. They have no original talent nowadays, it's all retread. Why would I spend my money to see them? When I can see the original stuff they are copying who are WAY BETTER!!!

  • @mrmarriottsgirl well said!!!!

  • @mrmarriottsgirl .Greatness

  • @mrmarriottsgirl hear hear , a patriot of all that is good and true .

  • @luke200202 aww thanks for the supreme compliement friend! I just know what I like! Cheers!

  • @mrmarriottsgirl the black crowes are damn good....

  • @mrmarriottsgirl there is a bit of truth in what you say, but there are some good bands out there still, and there always will be. you just have to search them out.....the black crows are one of them, oasis, supergrass, paul weller. give them a try.

  • Liked him a lot better in the Small Faces - and Rod needs to learn how to play double bass.....lol.

  • el mejor chato del rock, luego viene Angus.

  • RIP GEORGE AND RONNIE

  • whos playing upright bass? is it rod?

  • definitely Rod.

  • george !!

  • Sound like George Harrison, if a was heared the song before, i think its George, really

  • Sounds a lot like George...that's what I came to check!

  • back when being a musician meant actually knowing how to your instrument well

  • You're not listening to the right music if you think good musicianship ended "back when."

  • I didn't say that. Back then you had to be a good musician to be noticed, nowadays it doesn't matter if you're good or not.

  • He really sounded like George Harrison a lot.

  • Hell,he LOOKS a lot like George as well. At least I think so.

  • happy b-day Plonk - I miss your music today and everyday.

  • Please dont yell at me tryin to covince me how cool todays bands are ie John Mayer, Gov't Mule or the Black Crowes etc. I have my own opinion too. To me none of todays bands come close to UK rock like Marriott!, the Who or the Small Faces & none of them had the subtle class of Ronnie Lane! He was a first class pro & by all accounts a man who suffered his pains in quiet great dignity I miss musicians (AND PRODUCERS & ENGINEERS WHO HAD EARS AND PAID ATTENTION! like that. Lane was pro!

  • reminds me of george harrisons voice

  • i thought that as well.lol.

  • well what can i say mr ronnie lane what a class song !!!!! GOD BLESS RONNIE LANE !!!!!!!!

  • thanks that brought tears to my eyes

  • There is a version of him doing Good Night Irene it is a great song i thinks its on the A.R.M.S concert film.

  • Beautiful stuff! Ronnie Lane was one of a kind.

  • Rod Stewart on stand up bass... not bad Rod!

  • Kind of sounds like George Harrison

  • That was amazing. Cheers.

  • best ever

  • brilliant!

  • Is it Rod on that bass?

  • Yes, indeed. I think Plonk played it on the album, however.

  • Youtube should end the possibilty in making comments

Oh, by the way; Ronnie Lane´s smile sort of gave me a will of getting up tomorrow - again. Cheers Baba Brandy On The Heel

  • Such a talented band, Faces died when Ronnie Lane left in 1973.

  • Such a talented band, Faces died when Ronnie Lane left in 1973.

  • i luv Ronnie Lane's stuff,

this is better than studio version in my opinion.

  • Agree! Much, much better than the studio version.

  • Ronnie "Plonk" Lane was the heart, the soul and spirit of the Faces

  • That last comment was a load of krock...I'm 61 yrs and lived that period....the Faces with Ronnie Lane were a great under rated band. If rod Stewart would have stayed with them....who knows??? Stewart always had a huge ego.

  • stupid comment

  • There's always one, isn't there? But, yeah, as dumb comments go, that one was pretty remarkable. It made me head-slap myself so hard, I think I may have given myself a concussion.

  • Ty for this video it brought tears to my eyes. Rod looked after the late Ronnie Lane finacially and emotionally until he died. He is also great fiennds with Ronnie Wood so the comments of jealousy are totally unfounded and unecessary. They were a tightly knit band and always had fun. And it shows.

  • Why did they break up then? I know they had a perfect chemistry, oh my did they ever, and I know they were friends to the end, thats why I dont understand, I can only think of Ronnie wanting to be the lead man...

  • I could give you a whole history lesson on Rod and the faces and the careers the various members moved on to have but my guess is you don't realy care to know and are only posting provocative unfounded statements to sound 'cool'. Nobody stays stagnant if they have ambition nothing lasts forever - stop being so short sighted.

  • And before you start nitpicking at my last posting I meant band line ups don't last for ever not their friendship. Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart still perform together and their friendship has never changed althought their career directions might have. As for Ronnie Lane - he died so that put an end to them having a revival which I am sure Rod would have loved as they also performed together before his death

  • You are no better then me for assuming the reasons for my actions as I assumed the reasons for there actions.

  • WTF are you on about? I heard something that they broke up because of jealousy, sorry If what I heard was wrong. ANd if I didn't care I wouldn't have fucking asked ok? Look at my favourites, I think the the Faces were one of the best bands to over come about.Dont fucking judge me just answer the question or dont talk to me at all like Im some evil person, I didn't mean to Disrespect Ronnie Lane's life, I think he is a legend, dont think you are better then me.

  • Wow. Chill. This is not board wars. 500 characters allowed - condensed messages can sometimes convey an attitude not meant. I saw your first comment as a statement of opinion not a question which set the tone of my response. However your use of foul language was intentional and as unnecessary as the jealousy comments. Ill go with my gut instincts.

  • Rods like, hes jealous of my playing, Ronnies like, hes jealous of my singing, Woody's like a rolling stone.

  • Aww Ronnie Lane is my posthumous boyfriend.

  • to the guy that said the crowd deserves an oscar. That was brilliant, I am still laughing. COuldnt have said it better myself.

  • The crowd deserve an Oscar.

  • Ronnie Lane the master..miss him...pure magic!

  • fucking shit hot !!!!!!!

  • Is that Rod Stewart on bass?

  • Yes!

  • Is that Ron Wood on second slide?

  • FANTASTIC - seeing Ronniew Lane smile is wonderful - great guitars, good tue - buth WHAT ASMILE - thanks for sharing = terrific

  • couldnt agree more
