It's about time for choreographers and dancers to join the bandwagon of abstract expressionism/surreaism started in music, poetry and painting...etc. decades ago.

abstraction functions very differently for dance than in painting. painting comes from a figurative tradition, as if it twere a window.
dancing is inherently on a spectrum between representative and abstract. it can never fully be one or the other.
