Wireless Broadband router LinkSys WRT54G

A friend gave me one of these i had never used a router before.One thing i can see why he gave it away.Its a piece of JUNK..

this wireless router doesent work that great with game consoles and really doesent have that long of a rage

I found this router at the dumpster the other day, try plugging it in and smelled the "burning electronic smell", so i've opened her up and connected her again to see where the heat was coming from, apperantly it was from a very small chip near the power supply plug on the circuit board, so i just removed the chip and the router is working again lol. I can go into settings, have internet with it and all, only wifi doesn't seem to work, so it might be that that small chip was being used for wifi

Stay away from Linksys

They are too big to provide you with support down the road, when their crap dosen't work right...Customer Support in non-existent. Go with belkin or netgear for your router...wayyyyyyyyyyy more user friendly and reliable. TrendNet and Dlink are other companies which produce high end reliable hardware.....Good Luck!

This thing is shit if u have a descent sized house. i tried to connect my xbox to this thing and there is a 1/50 chance youll connect and stay connected. my xbox is probably 30 feet from this router.. all open space. i would advise any1 buying this to invest in a Linksys E3000 ..its better, more powerful and has a better range and network

am trying 2 get internet on 2 comps, comp 1 is next 2 modem socket in the wall, so it has the broadband modem, but the other will be on other side of house, and I cant run cables to it, is it possible to get a WIRELESS connection, coz i no the modem has wireless capabilities, it wrks with laptop wirelessly, so if i plug comp 2 into a wireless router, shuld it b able 2 connect to the modem connected 2 comp 2?

mine always fails for some reason..it'll work excellent at first, but then for some reason, it'll just stop working and I have to unplug it then plug it back in..can anyone help me?

@mobileincanada I've since found the problem after calling customer support a few times. I got a new cord for it and it works fine now.

i figured it out...it still does reset ocasionally but not NEARLY as often as it used to..instead of hooking up the router and installing the linksys program, hook up the router and DONT install the program...it worked for me!

Are you talking about the software that came with the router? That basic looking tutorial always confused me.  I still can't get on wirelessly and always with a ethernet.

@cojocoolio I had the same problem Im sorry to say that your router is toast I have since replaced mine with exactly the same model and I wont use any other brand than Lynksys its absolutely the best out there

its a division of Cisco Systems biggest or atleast one of the biggest comanies in the world four IT stuff I swear by them go get a wrt54 g2 that should resolve your problem

try reinstalling your linksys again it works for me for 5 month straight intill i have to do it again yeah! i know its annoying :P try limit your # of wifi connection to your router cause i find it having sis who has wifi on their smart phone and computer at the same time can add up to 6+ wifi connection to the router and it just shut off the router completely so 3-4 ok =)

u dont pay a thing you simply just connect ur DSL modem and then to ur computer and ur done!!

yeah it works with XBL i have one and it works with the wireless xbox adapter and picks up my routers signal
