  • I love a Michigan Blowout

  • I was at that game as a 10 y.o. that's when I became a Michigan fan. Tom was my

Sisters Dentist also. I agree R.I.P. Tom Slade.

  • This is great. Thanks Wolverine Historian!

  • I would say its a safe bet that 63-7 is a blow out

  • Someone in Hollywood would be wise to make a movie about Billy Taylor. The guy was my favorite player in this era. His story is amazing. The things the guy went through after his Wolverine days are insane. The way he came back up from the depths is even more amazing. I believe there is a book out about him.

  • Man, if people are mad about how RRod is treating players, look at Bo. These guys are tough kids.

  • How about that quarterback/pulling guard at 7:57!

  • ahhhh wtf slade was my dentist!! I never knew he was a qb until after he died. dam

  • M football the way it should be not the way RR is doing it

  • was in the stands, almost caught coin's pat for the record....maybe bo's best team....

  • This is fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing. GO BLUE!

  • What a gem.

  • Bo was 1 of the first I saw that was always on the phone, and then he went to the headset, Not many coaches did that.

Just something i can remember thinking back at the time.

  • thanks for the vid...great stuff!

  • What was Bo's reason to ditch the passing game in 1971?

  • The running attack was insane in 71. They ran over all their opponents with ease. I guess Bo didn't think he needed a passing game.

Alas, if you can't pass the ball, you're going to have trouble defending it too. If we had even a mediocre passing game in the 70's, we wouldn't have lost so many close Rose Bowl games.

It wasn't until the late 70's that Bo finally got the passing game going.

  • Yeah. We might have won that rose bowl in 1971 and may have won a national championship that year also.

  • BO should have won 71-76-78-80-85-88 NATIONAL CHAMPS!

  • @bluejayforever2006: I don't agree about 1980. Pitt should have won it that year. They were the best in 1976, too.

  • 8:16 Bo giving instructions to a player... 8:28 turns out it was Jim Brandstatter. Thought that was kind of cool

  • the days of dominating ass kickin Wolverine football. these days will return very soon. Go Blue.

  • Iowa Football was bad til Hayden Fry came along. Frank Lauterbur was the coach for Iowa in 1971.

  • great stuff!

  • 2:21 and 2:44 - Uh oh! Wait a minute! A UM football coach swearing and yelling at his players!? Where are the "family values"???

    Jeezus!

  • funny funny

  • awesome!

  • this is how michigan football should be not the asshole we got now

  • LOL. Isn't that the truth.

    Go Blue!

  • Holy Crap! Alan "Cowboy" Walker!

  • hey WH when are you going to show the video of michigan ohio state '71

  • I tried to find that game but several people have told me that it wasn't televised.

  • it wasn't televised nationally, but film of it exists, somewhere, because Woody's tirade after Thom Darden's interception was shown on TV across the nation.

  • R.I.P. Tom Slade

  • Amen to that. I remember a few weeks before he died, I saw an interview with him where he said how much better he was feeling. Such a tragic loss.

  • "I like that song"! This is a really great video. Thanks.

  • great to hear Bo's voice in this game, apparently when the Iowa coach addressed the media after the game he said, "Gentlemen, we got the fucking shit kicked out of us today."

  • Didn't they lose the next week?

  • Nope. They beat Purdue 20-17 the following week on Dana Coin's game winning field goal. (Gary Danielson was Purdue's QB.)

Then they beat Ohio State 10-7 in Ann Arbor. They went to the Rose Bowl at 11-0 and lost by a point to Stanford 13-12 on a last second field goal.

  • would they win the NC if they won?

  • I have no idea. I think the top 5 teams in the nation were undefeated going into their bowl games that year.

  • yes. Michigan was boss in 1971. Too bad fucking Stanford screwed it over for us. 71 was arguably Bo's best team (1985 might have been a little better)

  • is this from the "Vintage Bo" dvd?

  • Yes it is.

  • Nice video man great game for the wolves
